More details are leaking out about the 2016 Chevy Volt, including that the new Corvette influenced the design and that the ELR's adjustable regen braking levels will be available in the Chevy plug-in hybrid as well.
General Motors is letting the public know that, well, it's not about to let the public know anything else about the next-generation Chevrolet Volt. But the automaker is willing to talk about its camouflaging process for upcoming versions of the extended-range plug-in. So it's a half-hearted secret, at best.
The Chevrolet Volt isn't changing much for the 2015 model year. According to specifications uncovered by Inside EVs, though, the new Volt's battery does have a slightly larger capacity. According to the spec sheet, this doesn't translate to increased range. Real world driving, though, might tell a different story.

Apparently, Chevrolet Volt battery covers make suitable homes for bats. As part of an Eagle Scout project, Matthew Netherland created 30 bat houses out of scrapped Volt battery covers donated by Chevy. 22 of the bat houses will be set up near hydroelectric dams in Michigan. Each bat house will accommodate 100 bats, and divert the scrapped materials from the landfill. The battery covers also make great nesting boxes for wood ducks, which General Motors has previously set up at its Milford, Michig
General Motors teased consumers two years ago when it showed off a Chevrolet Volt decked out with 4G LTE connectivity. More details were finally unveiled this month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas: the 2015 Chevy Volt will have a 4G LTE option and will offer consumers an as-yet-unpriced option with much faster wireless internet connection and more smartphone apps. GM's OnStar has teamed up with AT&T to come up with several mobile apps alongside the roadside assistance.
If you're getting annoyed by a 'thumping' noise caused by driving your Chevy Volt with the windows down, there is a fix kit available. One Volt owner in San Diego, CA, was pleased to have the problem solved, allowing him to go back to being a "fresh air fanatic."
Chevrolet has added the Volt to its list of 2014 vehicles that will have Chevrolet MyLink with Siri available for iPhone users looking for infotainment perks and freedom from distracted driving. Siri Eyes Free Integration will also be available on the 2014 Camaro, Cruze, Equinox, Malibu and SS.
The Chevy extended-range electric is a fascinating car for those smart enough to understand it
General Motors is now offering a whopping $10,000 worth of rebates toward the purchase of a Chevy Volt. Now, cue the wise-guys, right-wingers, Tea Partiers and snark merchants to say, "See. Told ya it was a flop and a waste of tax-payer money."
GM Ventures, a division of GM that invests in startups, thinks it may have found a company that could hold the key to unlocking the Volt's value. Newark, California-based Envia Systems claims that they have technology to double the battery electric range of the Volt and reduce the cost of the battery by half.
What will the perfect, sustainable home of the future will look like? At a minimum, new green construction projects will make greater use of recycled materials and higher levels of insulation. The next step is adding solar panels and installing EV charging ports so commuters can drive green. Researchers in Austin, Texas imagined their ideal home of the future and engaged with the community to build an entire green neighborhood. Welcome to Pecan Street.
It looks like the Volt. It sounds like the Volt. It's built on the same assembly line in Detroit as the Volt, but it's not a Volt. It's the Opel Ampera. Despite all the similarities, there are some differences that Europeans enjoy and we can't have...yet.
In the wake of the Chevy Volt fire at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) test facility earlier this year, the governmental organization has been pushing to require EV battery drainage after car accidents, The Detroit Free Press reported.
The best part about plug-in cars is when the energy coming from the socket is renewable. With more solar-powered charging stations on the way, EVs look to have an even greater impact on reducing our dependance on fossil fuels. GM has recently begun installing these solar-powered charging canopies at two U.S. dealerships with 22 more on the way. The coolest part is they're free for any electric vehicle driver.
We visited one of the first dealerships to get the charging canopy and spoke with Joe
It's no secret that EVs are cheaper to drive per mile than gas vehicles. If you're driving a petrol-powered car, you're paying more for your energy than the guy next to you in a Nissan Leaf. But, EVs could also house a golden goose that can actually make money for their owners.
Looking at the photo above, you know the times they are a-changin'. We at TRANSLOGIC couldn't be more excited to see the famous Blue go green. The NYPD, along with the fire and sanitation departments, purchased 50 new Chevy Volts to join New York City's already 430-strong EV fleet.
If you're among those waiting for the Volt's price to drop before buying, then today is your day. Well...sort of. GM announced earlier today that they will be shaving $1,005 off the base price of the 2012 Chevy Volt. Of course, there's one small catch.
TRANSLOGIC 51 has Bradley sitting in a familiar spot, behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Volt. Now that the Volt is a real car you can actually buy, here are a few details you may have missed.
First, the Volt is offered in just one trim level, but, unlike a typical entry-level vehicle, the Volt actually comes nicely equipped. Since the Volt's asking price is about $40,000, GM's done quite a bit to give the car a premium feel versus its less expensive EV rival, the Nissan Leaf.
