Fast & Furious 6

Good news, Fast & Furious fans. The cast of the sixth installment of the street-racing film franchise recently took the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas to preview a few more clips from the newest installment of the franchise and answer a handful of fan questions.

More importantly, Vin Diesel confirmed that we won't have to wait very long for the next installment. Diesel said, "The next one, which is probably going to be the biggest one of all, is going to be in theaters on July 11, 2014."

That puts Fast & Furious 7 out just a year after Fast & Furious 6 hits theaters. James Wan is set to direct number seven with both Neal H. Moritz and Diesel staying on as producers. Beyond that, details are scarce, with no word on the plot or the cast. Stay tuned for more info, and check out the latest trailer for Fast & Furious 6 below.

Among the many Super Bowl XLVII commercials that caught our attention last night was the first official movie trailer for Fast & Furious 6, which promises more over-the-top action as Dominic Toretto and crew tear up the streets of Europe. Returning Fast & Furious stars include Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris and, back from the dead, Michelle Rodriguez. Predictably, there will be plenty of tuned hardware on display - both automotive and anatomical - along with loads of CGI-assisted stunts and chases.

Other than a stolen tank and crashing cargo plane, some of the vehicular excitement includes cars like a Dodge Charger Daytona (likely a lookalike), Ferrari Enzo FXX (ditto), along with today's Charger SRT8, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Subaru WRX STI, plus models like the Land Rover Defender and even what looks to be a vintage Ford Escort Mexico rally car.

The movie will be in theaters this summer, but TheFastAndTheFurious.com is promising an extended first look at the film tomorrow. Until then, you can check out the Super Bowl trailer posted below.

We were hoping Universal's Fast Five would be a watchable installment to the Fast and Furious franchise, and while we didn't see the flick ourselves, it appears many Americans did. According to Hollywood Reporter, the movie raked in $83.6 million over the weekend, easily giving the fifth installment of the franchise the top opening weekend of all the Fast and Furious flicks to date. The movie fared especially well at 243 Imax theaters nationwide, with sales of $8.3 million. The blockbuster film also hit the jackpot overseas, with $45 million in receipts.

The film also garnered an A from CinemaScore, which means audiences are leaving the theater satisfied. The film brought in plenty of young moviegoers, with 53 percent of viewers under the age of 25. If Universal wasn't sure what The Rock was cooking before, we're thinking they're catching a whiff now. Fast Five is the latest in the reinvigorated Fast and Furious franchise, and while the latest film adds Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (along with Paul Walker and Vin Diesel), the real co-stars are, as always, the cars. A whole new batch of wheels debuts in Fast Five, and Jay Leno took a firsthand look at some of them.

Movie car builder Dennis McCarthy brought a C2 Corvette Grand Sport replica, which features a 1980s Corvette suspension and a custom body by Mongoose. While many movie cars feature "fake" power, the Vette still packs 500 horses. And since this Vette was made for movie production, there are another nine copies, two of which sit on Volkswagen platforms to better handle some off-road stunts.

Beyond the Corvetteette, McCarthy brought a 1960s Dodge Charger with a gutted blower and a small-block Chevy underhood. Hit the jump to watch the 10-minute video, which features a few clips from the movie and some behind-the-scenes footage as well. At one point, Jay leaves his garage and heads over to McCarthy's home turf, which shows more metal from Fast Five.

Fast Five, the fifth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise, hits theaters Friday, April 29th. Since we live in the age of instant gratification, you're able to hunt down some of the key scenes and check out the furious action before you decide to plunk down your hard-earned bucks for a ticket. In order to facilitate the decision making process, a key chase scene has made its way to YouTube courtesy of the French arm of Universal Pictures.

We'll let you decided whether or not you want to watch the clip posted after the jump. However, we will tell you that Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) use a pair of pumped-up Dodge Chargers in a... unique capacity. The tow-rating on a 5.7-liter-equipped Charger is 2,000-pounds max, and even if you double that figure we're pretty sure the director is employing a healthy scoop of automotive movie magic to shoot this scene. We'll save the real sleuthing for a future episode of Mythbusters.

Click past the jump to watch three minutes and 44 seconds of Fast Five. It goes without saying that there are massive spoilers here, right? The audio is in French, but you shouldn't have too much trouble figuring out what's going on.

The fifth installment of the Fast and the Furious series, Fast Five, is ready to debut this summer, unleashing another round of "nos"-fed hilarity. In anticipation of the promised vehicular mayhem, they guys at Inside Line caught up with Dennis McCarthy, the man behind the stable of hot rods featured in the movie.

The first is a one-off, tube-frame monstrosity of an offroad car hauler lovingly dubbed "Mongo." Mongo was designed to assist Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in filching exotic cars from a moving train. To our eyes, Mongo looks ready to do just that, sporting a 600-plus-horsepower 502-cubic-inch Chevrolet V8, 7:10 gears and 18 inches of suspension travel. According to McCarthy, Mongo did his own stunts, completing a 75-foot jump and driving away unscathed. Wow.

The next sample on today's palette is possibly the most famous car to come out of the Fast and the Furious franchise, Dom Toretto's 1970 Dodge Charger. Though the car in the film sports a 900-horsepower supercharged Hemi, keeping costs low dictated a slightly tamer set up for the actual workhorses of the film. In stuntman-ready trim, the Charger sported a 400-hp Chevy small block (sorry, Mopar fans...) capped by a gutted BDS blower just for effect. According to IL, it's loud, scary to drive and uncomfortable, just the way any self-respecting mock up should be.

The final car on the list is the star of the show, a replica of a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, build by Mongoose Motorsports. It features the ubiquitous Chevrolet 502 big block, backed up by a Borg Warner Super T-10 four-speed stick. The combination rides on C3 Corvette suspension, which struggles to handle nearly 600 horses stuffed into a featherweight frame.

After weeks of abuse at the hands of Hollywood, none of the cars are feeling as healthy as they once were. That said, they all still run, which can't be said for hundreds of other cars used in the movie. Added to that, they'll all still burn up the rear tires with poise, showing they still have their dignity. Click past the jump to see all three cars in action.

Once again starring Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris, but with the addition of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, this is sure to kick off the summer movie season with a bang - not to mention lots of star power to get the kiddies interested.

A 1971 Plymouth Barracuda is a wonderful sight to behold. However, for the producers of Furious 5 (the upcoming installment in the Fast and Furious franchise), it's apparently not quite furious enough. How do they solve the problem? By stuffing a 636 Hemi under the hood and attaching a blower larger than Vin Diesel's impression of himself.

The car features five-point harnesses, leather-lined race seats and a custom dash signed by Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Justin Lin. Based on the "Frankencuda" Muscle Machine diecast toy, this custom 'Cuda is a fantasy car come to life.

You can make fun of the series all you want... but you know you are going to watch the next installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. The fifth film, called Fast 5, is set to hit theaters (including IMAX) on April 29th, 2011. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are back again reprising the lead roles of Dom and Brian. Also back are Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Sung Kang (which is surprising since we're pretty sure he died in Tokyo Drift, no?).

Fast 5 takes place in Rio de Janeiro, where the crew is forced to perform "one last job" in order to earn their freedom. A new law enforcement agent stands in their way - played by none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The film will surely be filled with plenty of gratuitous vehicular action that looks great on camera while breaking every conceivable law of physics.

The trailer for the film, which is available after the jump, features only a few clear shots at some of the cars in the flick. We spy (deep breath) an E39 5 Series, a pair of matte black Charger police cars, a modified 350Z, a resto-mod Charger, a few glimpses of parked Porsches, some assorted SUVs that are promptly trashed, an old VW bus, a Ford GT, what appears to be a Mongoose Motorsports Corvette Grand Sport Roadster replica, a Nissan GT-R and a few others we may have missed.

Thanks to Autoblog reader Jose Rosario, we can now put the speculation to rest - the 2011 Dodge Charger will indeed receive a new full-width taillamp treatment that echoes that of its two-door Challenger kin. Rosario informs us that these spy shots were taken in Puerto Rico on the set of The Fast and the Furious Five, the latest installment of the durable Vin Diesel street racing franchise.

According to Rosario, the filming appears to be using at least one prototype of the new Charger, "because it has the sides of the current model but has the new front and they added the new rear which light up all in LED lights." The film crew is also using more complete 2011 models, all of which are dressed up as police cars. The cars were used in a chase scene in which two current-model in a matte black finish pull a bank vault along the street, pursued by the Brazilian police cars (Even though the filming is taking place in Puerto Rico, the movie is set in Brazil). Rosario sadly reports that the last scene filmed the day these images were taken were of a current model Charger rear-ending a 2011 model.

Rosario managed to not only get shots of the new taillamps and well-integrated dual exhausts, but also some shots of the front end, which he says looks "more aggressive," including more snout-like grille, new hood, subtly but completely redone headlamps and a revised lower fascia.

As if that weren't enough, our man in PR also scored a shot of the 2011 model's interior, which reveals a much more cohesive look. A new three-spoke steering wheel with redundant audio controls beckons, as does what appears to be a start button. The gauge binnacle eschews the four nacelles of the current car for a more unified cluster that's marked out by a liberal helping of silvery trim and vertically oriented air vents bookend a new infotainment screen. Immediately below the screen, the Charger maintains its simple three-knob HVAC controls (albeit redone), and a step down from there is the CD slot. In the center console, a gated PRNDL surrounded by what looks like faux carbon-fiber trim. All-in-all, it looks like a massive improvement over the dour and workmanlike instrument panel of the outgoing Dodge.

This big-block '70 Plymouth Roadrunner was at SEMA last year, but many readers may better remember it from its appearance as a feature car in Hot Rod magazine, a spot on the television show RIDES, and its big-screen debut in The Fast and the Furious franchise. Vin Diesel's character, Dom Toretto, showed up in the closing minutes of Tokyo Drift behind the wheel of this malevolent Mopar, and it made enough of an impact that it returned in the 2009 follow-up as well.

Underhood, there's a supercharged 500-cubic-inch Mopar wedge pumping out 750 horsepower. To those familiar with the car, it's known simply as Hammer. The bidder who brought home this Plymouth also got a GMP limited edition 1:18-scale die-cast model of the car. Its closing bid of $175,000 made Hammer one of the top sellers at the 2010 Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction. Check out our mini-gallery below.

Fast and the Furious F-Bomb 1973 Camaro Replica - Click above for high-res image gallery

We won't ask you whether or not you want the real-life F-Bomb 1973 Camaro because, let's face it, deep down inside, we all want a 1,500 horsepower, twin-turbo V8 beast to play with. But would you lay down your hard-earned pay check on a facsimile of the car built for the latest Fast and the Furious? If so, here's your chance. One of the movie cars built just for filming and piloted by Vin Diesel himself is up for grabs.

The car is being sold by the Volo Auto Museum for a measly $39,998. We're assured that the Camaro is fully functional, and is capable of being driven on the street if your heart so desires. It's worth noting that the replica gets its power from a fairly healthy 350 V8 bolted to an automatic gearbox instead of the glorious mill Hot Rod Magazine chose for the genuine article. Originally set up for wheelie scenes and camera work, the faux F-Bomb still boasts all of the hardware for those duties.

Could you build your own F-Bomb replica for less than $40k? Maybe, but it wouldn't have a film history behind it.

Volo Auto Museum collection at Chicago Auto Show - Click above for high-res image gallery

One of the most fun parts of the Chicago Auto Show every year is that Illinois is also host to the Volo Auto Museum. Volo is one of those museum/used car dealerships that always has some of the most entertaining and outrageous cars in its inventory. One of the things they are best known for is their collection of rolling Hollywood memorabilia, and at this year's show, they have rolled out about a dozen vehicles that show off their range of Tinseltown metal.

First up is the Mellow Yellow NASCAR racer that Tom Cruise piloted in Days of Thunder. They even have a monitor running movie clips featuring Cole Trickle beside the very seat he sat in for the filming - and no, it wasn't a booster seat. Next to that is Speed Racer's Mach 5, signed by Kustom Kar King George Barris. That sits alongside one of the General Lee Dodge Chargers from the Dukes of Hazzard movie and a really odd Buick Grand National. The GN is one of the cars that Vin Diesel drove in Fast and Furious 4. It is totally gutted inside and has a wild rear steering system that made us do a double-take.

Across from that is the villain car from The Great Race and the awesomely wacky Turtle Mobile from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Our favorite star car, though - and the one that looks most at home here in Chicago - is the Blues Mobile, driven by one Joliet Jake and one Elwood Blues, a.k.a. "The Blues Brothers." It even has the comically oversized loudspeaker still strapped to the roof. All-in, the Volo display is fun attraction here in Chicago and an example of why this show is always so popular with the public.

It's official - The Fast and the Furious franchise will get another chapter. Speculation about a fifth installment had been rampant since Fast and Furious once again struck box office gold for NBC Universal last year. The rumors of a fourth sequel came to a head last month when Dominic Toretto himself made the announcement to his 7,385,034 Facebook fans that writer Chris Morgan had handed him scripts for a fifth and sixth movie in the series. Yet, there was no official word from the studio, until now.

Besides Vin Diesel (Toretto), Paul Walker (Brian O'Conner) and director Justin Lin will also return for what's now known simply as Fast Five. Apparently the gang isn't so furious anymore. The franchise should be in good hands, as this crew has ridden through at least two movies apiece and Chris Morgan was the author of the screenplays for the last two installments (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast and Furious). Those two chapters were arguably the best in the FNF filmography.

The official announcement didn't include word of the suggested sixth installment, but if Vin is to be believed, they might be filming episode five and six back-to-back with a staggered release schedule possibly taking the franchise to its ten-year anniversary in 2011.

Few film franchises have gone into six installments. But then few film franchises have been such enormous box office hits as The Fast and the Furious series. Now it appears that, after four installments already released, NBC Universal could be on its way to filming numbers five and six together for staggered release.

The news was broken by none other than Vin Diesel himself, the star of the film series, on his Facebook page. According to Diesel:
If 2009's 'Fast and Furious' was chapter one, what writer Chris Morgan just delivered is Chapter 2 and chapter 3.
I have never been submitted a two story saga from a studio before... it is very exciting, and shows a commitment level that is hard not to respond to.
Excited about the sexy locations the filming of this sag...
Chris Morgan was the writer behind the last two installments (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast and Furious), and according to Diesel, he's already written the next two screenplays. That, of course, doesn't mean they've both been approved for production, but with the director, writer and lead actor reportedly already on board, the studio would have to have gone speed-blind to pass up these cash cows.

Amazing what a huge opening weekend at the box office can do. After debuting with a record-breaking $72.5 million haul in its first few days, the fourth installment, Fast & Furious tapered off a bit last week at $28 million, but that hasn't slowed the franchise one little bit.

In an interview on Friday with Los Angeles radio station 104.3MYfm, star Paul Walker said that a fifth installment is practically a sure thing now: "This was supposed to be it - but without question, Vin and I will be coming back, we're making the fifth one and we're going to Brazil." We hate to say we told you so, but... well, we did.

Based on the results of our previous poll, we're guessing that most of you will be up for another go assuming the trailers and buzz show it to be at least as good as the current film. It may well be that in its fourth installment, Universal Pictures' 'Fast & Furious' franchise has finally hit its top speed. According to preliminary estimates by Media by Numbers, the Vin Diesel/Paul Walker/Jordana Brewster/Michelle Rodriguez street racing vehicle cranked out a shocking $72.5 million dollar payday over the weekend.

To put that in proper context, CNN reports that this figure is the best April film opening ever, blowing away 'Anger Management' at $42.2M, and it easily dusts the opening weekend of 'Fast 2 Furious" ($50.5M), previously the series' best outing. Perhaps most jarring is news that the $72.5M earnings would make it the best opening for a car-related movie ever.

One thing's for sure - with a showing like this, we're betting that Hollywood execs are already on the phones this morning commissioning scripts for a fifth film - if they don't have a drawer full of 'em already.

The Fast and Furious franchise started off with a monumental bang, but quickly became a bit of a drag. OK, the original Fast and Furious was pretty darn good, but the other two actually removed brain cells from all who watched them. Did the script go bad, or was it just a lack of Shaq Vin Diesel? Universal Studios is hoping for the latter, as Mr. Clean is back for the fourth installment of the tuner car series.

We've shown you a couple trailers so far, and after the jump are a few teaser minutes of the film that haven't been seen yet. Brian O'Connor's GT-R is fast and Dom Toretto's Chevelle SS is furious enough to magically flip some dude's ride over a bridge. We're pretty sure we won't be quoting Vin and Paul lines from Furious 4 after we see the movie, but some pretty sweet rides and the return of the Diesel should be enough to get us back into the theater.

Universal has just released the second theatrical trailer for what is sure to be an Oscar shoe-in next year: Fast & the Furious 4. Yes, it's the return of Dom Toretto and Brian O'Connor, a.k.a. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, to the roles that made them famous. The new trailer after the jump shows a nice romp through L.A. as O'Connor chases down a token bald and inked Latino man who must have done something really bad. We're then whooshed to the Mexican desert, where the combined forces of Diesel and Walker are required to... drive cars for some sort of larger purpose to which we're not yet privy. Sign us up!

Seriously, though, the first F&F was fun, the second cruel and unusual punishment and the third an interesting way to extend the franchise and make more money. The fourth will be epic, mark our words. We've already ordered tickets on Fandango. Follow the jump to watch the new teaser for yourself so you can agree with us out loud.
