The caviar and concours-loving world was rocked this past Saturday night when Zagato dropped its Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa bomb. Seriously y'all, this sucker's so stunning that we don't even mind the childish graphics. In fact, our only gripe is that we weren't in attendance at the this weekend's 2010 Villa D'Este Concours so we could check out the tube-framed, almost Kamm-tailed TZ3 ourselves. Meaning we have no real gripes to speak of.

Luckily, an Autoblog reader named Graziano Mancini was there, took some shots, and he was good enough to send them on share with you. We like the live pictures even better than the stock studio shots. The TZ3 has that classic, special early 1960s Euro-racer charm and grace that is simply lacking from modern cars. Long story short, the car's fabulous. But don't take our word for it - the Zagato-penned Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa won the Villa D'Este's concept class. Very well done. Also, we'd be remiss if we didn't offer Andrea Zagato (above) a very happy 50th birthday today. Check out Mancini's full slate of shots in the gallery below.

The Zagato-designed Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa has been unveiled at the Villa D'Este concours, and frankly, it's spectacular. Driven by the Alfa 8C Competizione's V8, the TZ3 is very much in keeping with its 60s-era predecessors, the TZ1 and TZ2, sporting similar detail elements and the same near-breadvan profile. Also like the originals, this is a legit racing car. Unlike its forbears, however, the new machine wears aluminum bodywork stretched over a tube frame and carbon-fiber chassis. Power, as indicated before, is also of thoroughly modern origin.

Zagato says the TZ3 was commissioned by German collector Martin Kapp as a special celebration of 100 years of racing from Scuderia Ferrari, Alfa Corse, Autodelta, and Scuderia Zagato. On that "special" bit, we think it's safe to say, "mission accomplished" - with class and panache to spare. Official PR pics are in the gallery below, and a full live gallery is posted at OmniAuto. A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Zagato was planning to unveil a new Alfa Romeo at the upcoming Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Now the stoic Italian carrozzeria has released the first teaser image (above) and initial details of what it has in store for us.

The TZ3 Corsa follows in the footsteps of the original Alfa TZ and TZ2, drawing on some 90 years of collaboration between the two companies and commemorating Alfa's centenary. It's based on a carbon fiber tubular chassis overlaid with a lightweight aluminum body. But instead of a show car like the Pininfarina 2uettottanta and the Bertone Pandion that bowed in Geneva, the TZ3 Corsa is a full-on competition machine, commissioned by an unidentified German gentleman racer.

The overhead view looks strikingly similar to the 8C Competizione upon which it's based, and Zagato has released a handful of images of its historic Alfa racers - which you can view in the gallery below together with the press release after the jump - to mark the occasion. The most prestigious of open-air auto shows takes place this year from April 23-25, so stay tuned for more details.

Zagato reportedly to unveil new Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa concept at Villa d'Este

Particularly astute (and Alfa-fanatical) readers may have noticed something missing from the Geneva Motor Show last month. With Alfa Romeo celebrating its centenary this year, the stoic Italian brand was reported to be commissioning three of Italy's finest design studios to produce concept cars for the brand. But cool though they were, only two showed up at the Geneva Palexpo: the Pininfarina 2uettottanta and the Bertone Pandion. We chalked it up to an error in the initial reports, but now it seems like we've discovered what happened to the third.

According to reports, Zagato - not ItalDesign Giugiaro - will be rolling in to the prestigious Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este this year with an Alfa Romeo concept of their own. Reportedly named the TZ3 Corsa, it follows the path of the original TZ1 and TZ2 (pictured above) which Zagato built on the basis of the old Alfa Giulia. Sources say it's made up of a carbon-fiber frame, with the 4.7-liter V8 from the 8C Competizione providing motivation.

If it looks half as good as the Perana Z-One (and twice as nice as the less fortunate Ferrari 550 GTZ Barchetta), we could have a real stunner on our hands. We have a feeling we won't mind the wait.

BMW has a treat planned for this year's Villa d'Este on Italy's Lake Como to celebrate the 70th anniversary year of the Munich firm winning the Mille Miglia - and it's not the 328 Mille Miglia Concept Coupé. Instead, the swoopy steel form of the 328 Kamm Coupé will grace the sun's rays after 40 years in obscurity and a rebuild in the works since the last millennium.

Once a representation of the finest in BMW's aero and construction ideas, the Kamm was owned by the German gent Ernst Loof, who founded Veritas (yes, that Veritas), but fell in shambles on the scrap pile in the fifties. BMW resurrected it and has been piecing the racer together for more than a decade, all for this moment. Bugatti celebrates 100 years with four Centenaire specials at Villa d'Este

Although decades have separated the modern Bugatti from its heritage, the Alsatian exotic marque is one that prides itself on its racing pedigree. So to bridge that gap and celebrate its 100th anniversary, Bugatti rolled in to the Villa d'Este auto show on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy, as promised, with a quartet of special edition Veyrons.

Each of the four one-offs bares a different color to contrast with the chrome fenders, and each honors a different driver from Bugatti's glory days by taking their names. To more clearly emphasize the cars historical linkages, the four Veyrons arrived in Italy accompanied by matching historic Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix racers.

One of the most successful race cars in history, the Type 35 racked up some 2,000 race victories over the course of a decade of competition in the inter-war period. Thanks to its advanced lightweight construction and pioneering client-racer availability, the Type 35 was one of the most popular and indomitable racing machines of its day. Alongside its identically-colored historic counterpart, the Bugatti Veyron Jean-Pierre Wimille edition appeared in bright blue, the Achille Varzi in dark red, the Malcolm Campbell example in dark green and the Hermann zu Leiningen in off-white. No official word so far if these specials will be for sale or if they'll remain at Bugatti's headquarters in Molsheim, but if they do find their way to market, you can expect them to be marketed at a considerable premium.

The presentation at Villa d'Este is the second of many celebrations which Bugatti has lined up to celebrate its centenary this year, following the Bleu Centenaire edition presented at the Geneva show and ahead of Pebble Beach in August and the grand finale in Molsheim on September 12. Aston Martin unveils the first completed One-77 in Italy

Prominently featured on the Aston Martin stand on the first day of this year's Geneva Motor show was the rolling chassis of the very first One-77 prototype. By day two it had been be removed and replaced by the unfortunate Lagonda concept. The chassis had to be returned to the UK so that the bodywork and interior could be added. This week, the finished car had its coming out party on the shores of Italy's Lake Como, home to the rich and famous.

The exterior was no surprise since we had already seen the styling buck and renderings, but this was the first time the finished interior had been shown. No doubt purchasers of the 77 examples will all have the opportunity to customize the finish, materials and color combinations before Aston Martin begins deliveries late this year. Hopefully, our friends at Aston Martin will give us the opportunity to take one for a spin before they're all gone. Thanks to Jayho for the tip!

Ahead of its debut at this weekend's gorgeousness that is the Villa d'Este "Carnival of the Rich," British stalwart Morgan is previewing its new Aero Super Sports, its latest aluminum-chassis'd roadster.

Like some of its more recent siblings, the limited-edition roadster will once again make use of BMW power, in this case, Bimmer's 4.8-liter V8 paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission (power figures are not being disclosed at this time).

Its curvaceous bodywork features a two-panel detachable roof arrangement, giving both the feel of a hardtop coupe or a convertible (the panels fit in the trunk), and the interior is loaded with the expected quantities of hand-stitched hides and polished timber.

Slated for production in 2010, the Super Sports is "anticipated to cost around £127,000 including VAT" (around $187k USD), although you'll want to queue quickly with a £25,000 (@ $37k) check in hand as a deposit for this centennial special. It must be a month with the letter "R" in it, because Bugatti is releasing yet another special edition Veyron. Following up on the one-off Blue Centenaire that was shown in Geneva to celebrate the marque's 100th anniversary, the latest is actually a corral of four special editions, each in a different color and dedicated to the legend of one of the company's pre-WWII racing drivers: Sir Malcolm Campbell, Hermann zu Leiningen, Jean-Pierre Wimille and Achille Varzi.

Each car gets a two-tone exterior treatment in grand Bugatti style: polished aluminum on the front fenders and doors, with the rear section, roof and hood in contrasting colors to match the legendary drivers' classic machines: Italian racing red, French racing blue, British racing green and an off-white to represent Germany, whose historic racing color was silver. So far only these low-res images have surfaced over on Motorpasion, so they will have to hold us over until Bugatti rolls out the quadruplets at the exclusive Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este show, which opens its gates this weekend on the shores of Lake Como.

Ralph Lauren's Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic will headline the classic cars assembling for the annual Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este. The ultra-rare coupe, even rarer than the Type 57 Atalante recently unearthed from a garage in England, is one of only three ever built, and will be coming back to Europe for the first time in 18 years. The special appearance of special Bugatti will help the marque celebrate its 100th anniversary this year, and the show its 80th.

While the famous fashion designer's classic Bugatti is sure to garner its fair share of attention among the classic motors on the shores of Lake Como later this month, Bertone, Zagato and Morgan are anticipated to arrive with brand new designs of their own, promising to make this year's Villa d'Este assembly an especially memorable event.

In our next life, we hope we don't come back as a concept car. The show-bound vehicles get rushed through development, fussed over, shipped off to some exposition hall to be scrutinized by people like us, then all but completely forgotten. It's a rough existence. But every dog has his day, and for some of the world's most beautiful show cars, that day comes at Villa d'Este.

The annual concours d'elegance is held on the shores of picturesque Lake Como in northern Italy, out on the green lawns under the Mediterranean sun. Now that's more like it. Every year some of the most beautiful concept cars make it to Villa d'Este for a well-deserved vacation, and this year will include such show-stoppers as the Infiniti Essence, Aston Martin One-77 and Rinspeed iChange which we saw in Geneva, along with others like the Fisker Karma S and BMW GINA Light design study. But some years, automakers and design houses use the occasion to unveil something altogether new, and this year Stile Bertone, Zagato Milano and Morgan are expected to show new concepts at the concours.

The Bertone show car is expected to be an evolution of the BAT 11 that was (almost) debuted at the Geneva show a couple of years back. Zagato's is unknown, but is tipped to be a development on the gorgeous Perana Z-One from Geneva. Meanwhile Morgan, now celebrating its centenary, is tipped to unveil a new lightweight sportscar concept based on the Aeromax that could see production if the reception is warm enough. Lake Como in the spring should do it.

The reborn Carrozzeria Touring made a big splash at Villa d'Este. As the featured marque of the Concorso d'Eleganza this year, the fathers of the classic Superleggera construction method took the wraps off two stunning coachbuilt Maseratis. While we wait for Touring to release more information on the swoopy A8 GCS sportscar and Bellagio Fastback, the Carrozzeria has graced us with a few new images of the two cars.

The photos of the A8 GCS show the custom coupe in a much better light than the initial batch, and there's another shot of the Quattroporte-based Bellagio, as well. As you can see in the latter, the side windows on the wagon are blanked out, but while the extension might not do any favors for blind-spot visibility, we hardly think that's the point as the design and craftsmanship appear second to none. Since the news broke that Maserati was planning a new sportscar to rival the benchmark Porsche 911, Italian styling houses have been lining up to pitch their designs for how they think the new Trident sportscar should look. Following the Chicane concept unveiled in Geneva by the students of the Instituto Europeo di Design, the resuscitated Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera threw its hat into the ring this weekend with the A8 GCS concept you see above.

Together with Touring's other Maserati concept, the Quattroporte-based Bellagio Fastback, the A8 GCS design study was unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the annual Mecca of class and performance on the shores of trendy Lake Como in Italy. Inspired by Pininfarina's iconic Maserati A6 GCS Berlinetta of 1954, the Touring concept presents a compelling mix of modern design and retro touches. While it's hard to make the case that, with even the most well-established outfits struggling to get by, the industry really needs another Italian design house or coachbuilder, if these are the results then we can hardly complain. BMW's supercar icon, the M1, blew out the candles at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este this weekend. In honor of the car's thirtieth birthday, BMW rolled out the new BMW M1 Hommage, a concept/design study that pays tribute to the original M1 and shows what could be possible if BMW were to produce a new mid-engined sports car. This year's Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este has its public day tomorrow, which is when the world will presumably get its first look at the new BMW M1 concept, a stunning, modern take on Munich's original supercar that is part of Bimmer's 30th anniversary celebration of the classic machine. The private exhibition took place today, however, and the guys at Asphalte.ch -- they were the first with live shots of the Lamborghini LP560-4 earlier this year -- have once again scored a coup, snapping the new, copper-colored M1 concept in all its glory, both alone and alongside its forebears. We expect to have a lot more on this car tomorrow (assuming a press kit will be released sometime overnight), but for now, head to Asphalte.ch to see more shots of the car under the lights. Hey BMW, just pull the trigger and greenlight a production version already, because this thing is awesome.
