It's spring, and that means motorcycles are back in season. Polaris must be in a buying mood, as the recreational vehicle giant announced that it has purchased Indian Motorcycles. Terms of the sale have not been disclosed, but the move has certainly given Polaris a stronger foothold in the American-made motorcycle market. Polaris also owns Victory, which makes cruiser and tourer bikes that compete directly with models from Harley Davidson.

Polaris hasn't announced any specific plans for Indian Motorcycles, but the post-jump press release does say that the motorcycle maker will operate as an autonomous brand. Polaris CEO Scott Wine says he's excited to be part of the revitalization of America's first motorcycle builder, adding, "With our technology and vision, we are confident we will deliver the classic Indian motorcycle, enhanced by the quality and performance for which Polaris and Victory are known."

Though the Indian name has been around for over a century, the company was only last restarted in 2006, and the first motorcycles from the reborn brand were sold as 2009 models. The company couldn't exactly take on Harley Davidson in that short a span, but the addition of Polaris know-how and a fully stocked parts bin from which to draw upon could give Indian a big boost. Hit the jump to read over the Polaris press release.

It looks like Harley-Davidson isn't the only bike company dabbling in the dark arts these days. Victory Motorcycles has pulled the sheets off of its new High-Ball at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show in New York. The bike looks like it's been upended and dipped in a vat of matte black paint with just a few exceptions. The tank wears a flat-white cove with matching wide whitewall tires. At the heart of this machine is the company's 97-horsepower 106/6 Stage 2 V-twin that cranks out 113 pound-feet of torque.

If you're looking at those ape hangars with the jaundiced eye of practicality, fear not. Victory says that the bars can be adjusted to stand straight up and down or folded back for a more comfortable riding experience. If you're looking to buy your way into the rat rod scene, there are worse ways to do it. The High-Ball carries a price tag of $13,499.

Victory couldn't let that other fellow American motorcycle manufacturer have all the new-product fun now, could it? The new 2010 Vegas Limited Edition was recently unveiled at the New York Motorcycle Show, and it appears that there's a new torque-rich power cruiser on the market vying for your hard-earned dollars and straight-line thrills.

Victory's Freedom V-twin has long been a formidable and powerful mill, and the Minnesota-based manufacturer has reportedly managed to squeeze a few more ponies out of the 106-cubic inch twin. According to Victory, the new 106/6 engine is fitted with Stage 2 cams, bringing output to 97 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque.

Color options will include Fire Ball Red, Competition Yellow, Pearl White or Turbo Silver for the price of $15,999. Notable exterior bits include the side-mounted 106 race plate graphic, color-matched frame and swingarm and blacked-out forks and drivetrain. There will only be 100 Vegas LEs produced in 2010, and ordering will be available from January 22 until February 15.
Introduced last year, the Vision sports futuristic styling that's also very effective at keeping the wind and elements at bay -- exactly what you want from a long-legged steed. That the Vision is equipped with an extremely powerful 106-cubic-inch (over 1,700cc) air-cooled engine with 92 horsepower and 109 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed transmission is icing on the cake. To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, America's other motorcycle manufacturer threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Vision and ended up with a $29,000 two-wheeler bedecked in metallic red, black and chrome. Apparently, riders liked the result enough to snatch up all 100 Anniversary editions in the first seven minutes it was made available for purchase online. With that kind of response, maybe they should make a big deal about the 11th anniversary next year...

Gallery: 10th Anniversary Victory Vision

[Source: Victory Motorcycles]
Continue reading 10th Anniversary Victory Vision sells out in 7 minutes

10th Anniversary Victory Vision sells out in 7 minutes originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 06 Sep 2008 10:44:00 EST.
