The "Round Door" Rolls-Royce Phantom I Aerodynamic Coupe (inset) is a magnificent black beast of a car (and you can see it at the Petersen Automotive Museum for a limited time) as well as a mystery: designed by the Jonckheere Works in Belgium in 1935, all records for the one-of-a-kind coupe were destroyed in World War II, so no one knows who designed it or who commissioned it. What remains of the original coachbuilding company now makes bodies for cars and buses, and has asked designer Ugur Sahin to reinterpret the most fabulous car from its history.

We've written about Sahin often before, recently about his Corvette-based Anandi being shown at Top Marques Monaco and going into production. For a man who favors long hoods and short bodies, this particular Rolls-Royce couldn't be better. Sahin says the word "Respect" guided his lines for the 77-year-old car, the most apparent changes being the front fender treatment, the headlights dropping into the fenders, and the serious downsizing of the fin at the rear. Sahin says that there are talks with potential investors about building a one-off.

You can find out a little more about it in the press release below, and check out the gallery above of high-res images for every angle.
Continue reading Ugur Sahin returns with Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II design

Ugur Sahin returns with Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II design originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 15 Dec 2012 18:00:00 EST.
Some automotive designers pop up on our radar screens more often than others, but Ugur Sahin is one whose designs we look forward to receiving. The Turkish designer has dreamt up conceptual Ferraris and Aston Martins, and one of his projects - the Soleil Anadi - is actually heading into production, however limited. Now he's come back with a new Alfa Romeo project.

Called the 12C GTS, the design envisions a twelve-cylinder front-engined supercar - not likely to get picked up for production by Alfa, in this form anyway, as it would encroach on sister-brand Ferrari's territory even more than the 8C Competizione did. But a man can dream, can't he? And dream Sahin has. In fact he's looking for investors to fund its production.

We'll let the work speak for itself in the high-res image gallery above and the video below, but we will tell you it has our interest levels suitably piqued around the virtual Autoblog watercooler.
Continue reading Ugur Sahin is back with an interesting Alfa Romeo concept [w/video]

Ugur Sahin is back with an interesting Alfa Romeo concept [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 04 Jun 2012 19:30:00 EST.
Ugur Sahin Design has shown off more detailed renderings of its Chevrolet Corvette-based Soleil Anadi supercar ahead of its official unveiling at Top Marques Monaco, which begins today. The Anadi carries on a long line of Italian-bodied sports cars packing American grunt, and finally looks production-ready.

For those who don't recall, the Soleil Anadi started life as the Ugur Sahin Corvette Z03 Concept almost two years ago. Since then, the car has undergone some design changes, and these are the first detailed shots of the car to break cover. In particular, the car's rump has taken a giant leap forward, from a traditional four-taillight arrangement familiar to Corvette fans, to a sleek, gloss-black rear panel concealing the brake lights.

The new renderings also give us a better look at the car's flanks, which have gained a nice curve since the Z03 debuted and hearken back to the Anadi's Corvette roots. Watch for photos of the 2012 Soleil Anadi when they arrive.

There's a grand old tradition of Italian coachbuilders rebodying Corvettes that stretches back for decades. And thankfully that tradition has been revived of late, giving us such radical creations as the Bertone Mantide and the Spada Codatronca. And now we can add one more to the mix.

Just shy of two years ago we brought you news of Ugur Sahin's Corvette Z03 design being put into production with input from a Corvette tuning house called Mallett Cars. Now it appears the final version, with some substantial tweaks to the styling, will be unveiled next month at the exclusive Top Marques show in Monaco.

Now carrying the nameplate Anadi and built under the Soleil Motors banner, the shape has apparently undergone some adjustments but is still recognizable as the same design. The see-through hood window, for example, is gone, as is the kink in the grille's lower lip, while the rear end features a more contemporary shape than the Daytona-like surface of the original design.

Overall, the Anadi still looks distinctly Sahin, and arguably more Corvette-like. But we'll have to wait another few weeks to see all the angles. In the meantime you can scroll through the few images available in the gallery below, the earlier design renderings in the one below that, and an earlier interpretation in the gallery after the break.

Some of you might remember Ugur Sahin. He's a designer that we've featured before, specializing in grand touring cars that make our mouths water. Starting with already beautiful designs, he somehow manages to make shapely Chevrolet Corvettes and Ferraris look even better. From the Corvette Z03 to the Ferrari Dino and Ferrari-599-based USD GT-S Passionata, he's created some of the most exotic and graceful shapes we've ever had the pleasure to lay eyes on.

The latest automaker to earn Sahin's attention is Aston Martin. His latest design, the Gauntlet, blends some of our favorite design cues into a wholly unique package that's simultaneously sensual and brutal. Study the images and you might see a bit of One-77 in the mix, along with a dash of DB AR1, or perhaps you are carried back to the old DB3S, a car that Ugur mentions specifically as inspiration for the Gauntlet.

There's also some Maserati GranTurismo mixed with a little Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione as well, but we're definitely not complaining. It's a terrific design that has us wishing that Aston is looking at Sahin's designs for the next DBS and V12 Vantage. For those who still lament the loss of the Vanquish, with its broad shoulders and studly swagger, this might be the car for you. It's definitely earned a spot in our dream car garage.

You can read more of his thoughts on the project after the jump, and be sure not to miss the huge high-res gallery of pics below.

UgurSahinDesign Corvette Z03 - Click above for high-res image gallery

We're big fans of Ugur Sahin, who in the past has penned a modern interpretation of the Ferrari Dino that made our knees weak. Last year he unveiled renderings for a reinterpretation of the C6 Corvette called the Z03. Being used to seeing his designs remain on-paper fantasies, we were pleasantly surprised this morning to learn that his firm, UgurSahinDesign, has partnered with well known tuner Mallett Cars to bring the Z03 to life.

Since we last saw it, the Z03 has undergone further styling revisions, and we say for the better. They tell us all the tweaks were made to increase engine cooling and improve downforce, while the new headlights were redesigned to better accompany the car's Z06-like see-through hood. That new powerdome provides some extra clearance for what Ugur Sahin and Mallett have planned for the Z03 powerplants. The base engine will be a supercharged version of GM's LS7 V8 producing 700 hp. For those interested in the ultimate of bespoke Vette conversions, however, there's an optional engine upgrade featuring twin turbos and an expected output of 999 hp.

Just to convert your C6 into the Ugur Sahin design with carbon fiber bodywork will set you back $69,000, not including the price of the donor car. The engine upgrades will run $32,700 for the 700-hp, supercharged version and $35,795 for the 999-hp, twin-turbo version. At only a couple thou more than the supercharged engine, the 999-hp option seems like a steal. That is, until you tally the total cost and realize you've just spent six figures creating a super Corvette that still has the same interior.

Be sure to inspect every inch of Ugur Sahin's new Z03 design in our high-res image gallery below and peruse more detailed tech specs after the jump.

Gallery: UgurSahinDesign Corvette Z03

[Source: UgurSahinDesign]
Continue reading Ugur Sahin partners with Mallett for 999-hp twin-turbo Corvette Z03

Ugur Sahin partners with Mallett for 999-hp twin-turbo Corvette Z03 originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 12:58:00 EST. The Turkish designer has dreamed up the Corvette Z03 Concept, and before that brought the world his interpretation of what a modern Ferrari Dino might look like (he was a little off). It turns out that Sahin has been continually evolving his Dino design, however, and today we get our first look at the result of his extra doodling: the USD GT-S Passionata concept. Based on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, the Passionata retains the grand sports tourer personality of its host chassis, but adds a body that's much more organic with swoops, bulges and soft curves everywhere the eye falls. The mega hood scoop makes the car look a little insect-like, and we also see some cues inspired by the Corvette, Lotus and even McLaren F1 in the front end, but overall it's a knock out design and the connection to Ferrari's own design language is unmistakable. Truthfully, we just wish that we could draw cars this well. Sahin, however, is hoping to do more than just draw the Passionata, as he claims in his press release after the jump that "production will be arranged" if there's a demand for it. Unfortunately, a brand new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano will have to be sacrificed to build the Passionata, which we think probably violates Ferrari's warranty.
The last time Ugur Sahin Design came up on our radar, it was for a beautiful modern Ferrari Dino rendering that had us hoping for a production version. Sahin has a come up with a new concept, this time based on a Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Unlike the Dino, Sahin is hoping to actually build this car with a production run of 100, Dubbed the Z03, this concept features full carbon fiber bodywork and design cues from the C3 Corvette and a Ferrari 599 GTB. Performance will be a focus as well, with 100 pounds shaved off the car's overall weight, and three engine packages available from 500 to 750 horsepower. Further details will be available in March, and the delivery of a production car is optimistically set for the end of 2008.
