<br />
We've just received a set of spy photography that, for once, is focused on what is inside the car rather than what is visible on the exterior. That's exciting stuff, as the car in question is the next-generation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/m3/">BMW M3</a>, and the engine in question is the stuff of great import where enthusiast drivers and Bimmerphiles are concerned.<br />
<br />
The most important fact revealed from these shots, is that the 2014 M3 will be rocking an inline-six engine in place of the high-revving V8 from the current car. That news is welcome on two fronts: it represents a return to the engine configuration that we most associate with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/">BMW</a> performance, and it suggests a further development of the six-pot we've come to love in so many of the brand's current models.<br />
<br />
The photos confirm that the engine is likely two have turbochargers at least (there are two pipes feeding the intercooler), and they do not contravene <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/07/next-bmw-m3-to-get-triple-turbo-six/">rumors that a third, electric turbo lies just out of sight</a>.<br />
<br />
Displacement figures for the engine still remain a bit of a mystery. It has been reported that the next M3 could be as voluminous as 3.3 liters, though it's more likely, based on a BMW tech report claiming use of optimized, 500cc-cylinders, that the total size is 3.0 liters. In any event, everyone's best guess about power output hovers around the 450-horsepower mark.<br />
<br />
Please also note the very sturdy strut tower bracing that is visible under the hood (as if you could miss it). Forego any worries that the new hot <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/3+series/">3 Series</a> will be anything less than rock-solid mid-corner.<br />
<br />
When you're finished browsing our photo gallery, please to continue on below, where we've posted some video footage of the 2014 M3 testing in Germany. <br />
Enthusiasts looking to purchase a <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/gtr">Nissan GT-R</a> will need to dig deeper. <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/">Nissan</a> has announced pricing for the 2013 model, which starts at $96,820, nearly $7,000 more than the 2012 car.<br />
<br />
You may remember that the 2008 GT-R started <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/05/nissan-raises-gt-r-msrp-by-nearly-7-000/">under $70,000</a>, so the sticker shock of a <a href="http://autos.aol.com/nissan-gt_r/">38.6 percent price increase</a> in six model years is not insignificant. That said, Nissan can counter that no supercar within $100,000 can touch the GT-R when it comes to performance bang for the buck.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/17/2013-nissan-gt-r-la-2011/">Like we told you</a> back in November, the 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V6 cranks out 545 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque for 2013, an increase of 15 hp and 15 lb-ft. The zero to 60 sprint takes a jaw-dropping 2.7 seconds, according to the automaker.<br />
<br />
The GT-R Black Edition also returns with a starting MSRP of $106,320. It's mainly unchanged for 2013 save for a new dry carbon fiber rear spoiler. <a href="/2012/01/20/nissan-raises-base-price-of-gt-r-yet-again-this-time-to-96-8/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to read over the Nissan press release.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/21/nissan-raises-gt-r-base-price-again-this-time-to-96-820/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nissan raises GT-R base price to $96,820 for 2013</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/21/nissan-raises-gt-r-base-price-again-this-time-to-96-820/">Nissan raises GT-R base price to $96,820 for 2013</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 21 Jan 2012 12:26:00 EST. <br />
There is a lot to love about the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/17/2014-audi-e-tron-spyder-quick-spin-review/">2014 Audi e-tron Spyder</a>. It's a compact roadster with a torque-happy, twin-turbo diesel V6 mated to two electric motors capable of more instant twist. When we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/17/2014-audi-e-tron-spyder-quick-spin-review/">recently took the e-tron Spyder for a spin</a>, we were limited to just 40 miles per hour, but the Four-Ringed automaker tells us that a trip to 62 takes only 4.4 seconds.<br />
<br />
And because this Spyder is a green monster, it can travel up to 30 miles on electric power alone. Using a mixture of the diesel and its lithium ion battery, it will consume on average a scant 2.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.<br />
<br />
That sounds like a lot of "too good to be true," but Audi promises to be the leader in luxury electric cars by 2020, and a production version of this vehicle is expected for 2014. <a href="/2011/10/21/audi-e-tron-spyder-struts-its-stuff-in-malibu/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to watch new footage of the e-tron Spyder in motion. It might not be ready to go on sale, but it at least looks mighty fine on the roads of Malibu, California, near where we drove it.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/21/audi-e-tron-spyder-struts-its-stuff-in-malibu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Audi e-tron Spyder struts its stuff in Malibu</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/21/audi-e-tron-spyder-struts-its-stuff-in-malibu/">Audi e-tron Spyder struts its stuff in Malibu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Oct 2011 19:17:00 EST. <br />
We've heard <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/11/spy-shots-2014-bmw-m3-caught-packing-new-turbocharged-inline-si/">for a while</a> that the next-generation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/m3/">BMW M3</a> will lose its 4.0-liter V8. In fact, back in July, <em>AutoExpress</em> claimed that the next M3 would feature <em>three</em> turbochargers. Not so, says <em>Autocar</em>. Instead, the Brits claim that "insiders" tell them that the high-performance 3 Series will feature a twin-turbo inline-six. This mill reportedly will be all-new, and not based off the N54 twin-turbo or the N55 twin-scroll engine.<br />
<br />
But while the two British mags disagree about the number of turbos under the M3's bonnet, the consensus is that power will be increased to 450 horsepower. What's more, the next M3 mill will boast significantly more torque, up from 295 pound-feet in the current generation to somewhere in the vicinity of 400 lb-ft.<br />
<br />
We don't know about you, but 450 hp and 400 lb-ft sounds mighty fine to us. We're trying to table that enthusiasm for now, though, so we'll keep this information in the rumormill category for now. After all, the next M3 probably won't hit newsstands until the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/11/spy-shots-2014-bmw-m3-caught-packing-new-turbocharged-inline-si/">2014 model year</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/16/next-m3-will-get-new-twin-turbo-six-cylinder/">Next M3 will get new twin-turbo six-cylinder</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 09:28:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>2010 Ford Shelby GT500 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></span></div>
<br />
In recent months, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/13/rumormill-ecoboost-v8-ford-shelby-mustang-in-the-pipeline/">rumors have been rampant</a> that the next generation of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/">Ford's</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/shelby+gt500">Shelby GT500 Mustang</a> would dump the existing 5.4-liter supercharged V8 in favor of a twin-turbo version of the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/28/2011-ford-mustang-gt-offcially-rolls-with-a-5-0-v8/">5.0-liter Coyote V8</a> that debuts this spring. Unfortunately, in spite of earlier reports confirming the development, it appears that such an engine will not be installed in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/shelby+gt500">GT500</a> any time soon. Autoblog had the chance to talk with Mike Harrison, Ford's chief engineer for the 5.0-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines this morning, and he made it clear that the mooted engine is <em>not</em> part of the program for the Blue Oval bomber.<br />
<br />
Harrison explained that such a configuration would be almost impossible for Ford to engineer because the 5.0-liter already consumes virtually the entire engine compartment. There is evidently no room to mount the turbos on the outside of the block where the exhaust currently resides. One possibility would be to put the turbos in the valley of the block similar to the new 6.7-liter diesel or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a>'s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, but this creates a bunch of new problems as well. The heat generated by having the turbos up top would probably cause the paint on the hood to bubble and peel unless Ford could add some exotic and undoubtedly expensive heat shielding, which is unlikely to happen.<br />
<br />
The other issue is that this configuration would really only work if the intake and exhaust flow were reversed, putting the exhaust in the valley. Without this change, the paths from the exhaust ports to the turbos would be too long, resulting in excess turbo lag and unacceptable performance. However, this would require a level of engineering investment for new heads that Ford is unlikely to make in such a low-volume program. Thus, we'll have to be satisfied with the aluminum block 5.4 that is arriving later this year. <br />

<br />
Ford has been pushing its EcoBoost engines hard since they came out of the gate, with almost as many commercials touting its twin-turbo technology as we've seen all other Blue Oval spots combined. And all that marketing mojo appears to be paying off, as the Ford Motor Company has told <em>The Detroit News</em> that EcoBoost has really taken off on the showroom floor. <br />
<br />
Ford just started offering EcoBoost in July, but the early returns show that customers are very interested in Ford's promise of V8 performance with V6 fuel economy. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/mks">Lincoln MKS</a> sales have been 30 percent EcoBoost, while the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/taurus+sho">Taurus SHO</a> is currently accounting for 20 percent off all sales of Ford's new large sedan. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-lincoln-mkt-ecoboost/#4">MKT</a> has only been on the market for a month, but early returns show that over 40 percent of customers want 355 horsepower in their giant crossover. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/flex">Ford Flex</a> is seeing a 13 percent EcoBoost take rate, nearly double the expected 8 percent figure. <br />
<br />
In fact, Ford says all four EcoBoost-equipped vehicles are exceeding expectations to date, and the engine tech also appears to be bringing in conquest customers at an accelerated rate. For example, an impressive 44 percent of Taurus buyers come from another OEM, while the number jumps to 54 percent with the EcoBoost-equipped Taurus SHO. The MKT has a similar 10 percent conquest boost courtesy of turbo power. And those conquest wins at the dealership also add to Ford's bottom line, as EcoBoost-equipped vehicles carry a $5,000 to $10,000 MSRP bump versus their naturally aspirated counterparts.<br />
<br />
While the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine looks like an early success, the real turbo test comes when other, higher volume EcoBoost engines hit the market. Some future boosted Ford engines will come in 2.0-liter and 1.6-liter displacements, and the DetNews is reporting that a much smaller, 1.0-liter three-cylinder version is on the way for applications like the new Fiesta and Focus. Engines as small as 1.0-liter are sure to be an efficiency boon for the Blue Oval, with potential paybacks in the high 40 MPG range in the EPA highway cycle.<br />
<br />
The next vehicles to receive EcoBoost will reportedly be the F-150 and Ford Explorer toward the end of next year. Ford is hoping to push the engine tech on 90 percent of its models within the next few years, with up to 1.3M global EcoBoost sales.<br />

<br />
Just a year after the Ford Flex first appeared, the Blue Oval has revamped its lineup in ways that make the 2010 model quite different from its forebearer. First among the changes is the Blue Oval's EcoBoost engine, which packs 3.5 liters of displacement and a duo of turbochargers to produce V8 power with V6 fuel economy. Autoblog went to the Colorado hinterlands to spend some with with the Flex and its new powerplant, and as we found out, there's more to Ford's boxy crossover than boosted performance and fuel economy.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>2010 Lincoln MKS EcoBoost - Click above for high-res image gallery from Milan Dragway</small></span><br /></div>
<br /> When the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/07/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-lincoln-mks/">2009 Lincoln MKS</a> entered production, it arrived to market with a 273 horsepower, 3.7-liter V6. This made the new luxurious Lincoln a large, loaded, heavy vehicle with the power of a Nissan Altima. When we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/07/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-lincoln-mks/">reviewed the MKS</a>, we liked the newest Lincoln's interior, loved its in-car technology, and found the package itself acceptable to drive, but we were left longing for Ford's seemingly far off twin-turbocharged, direct-inject 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. A vehicle as big as the MKS deserves the extra pop, we figured. <br /> <br />It took a year, but it's finally turbo time at the top of Lincoln's lineup. We already had the pleasure of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/15/first-drive-2010-lincoln-mkt-ecoboost-and-mks-ecoboost/">first drive with the force-fed MKS</a>, and we found the 4,300-lb all-wheel-drive sedan to be quick and nimble for its size with fuel economy that handily bests its V8-powered competition. But we drove the EcoBoost MKS in the controlled environment of Ford's Romeo Proving Grounds. This time, we were given the chance to drive the EcoBoost MKS at a place where few Lincolns roam: the drag strip. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/21/drag-racing-with-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway-w-video/">Hit the jump</a> to see how Ford's new hot rod Lincoln handled itself on the track. We have performance numbers and video waiting for you, as well as video and stats for the EcoBoost Ford Flex.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lincoln-mks-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway">2010 Lincoln MKS EcoBoost at Milan Dragway</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lincoln-mks-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/mksecoboostdrag000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lincoln-mks-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/mksecoboostdrag001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lincoln-mks-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/mksecoboostdrag002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lincoln-mks-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/mksecoboostdrag003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lincoln-mks-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/mksecoboostdrag004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong style="font-style: italic;"><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Chris Shunk / Weblogs, Inc</small></strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/22/drag-racing-with-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Racing a Lincoln MKS EcoBoost at Milan Dragway [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/22/drag-racing-with-ecoboost-at-milan-dragway-w-video/">Racing a Lincoln MKS EcoBoost at Milan Dragway [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 22 May 2009 11:58:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the Infiniti Essence Concept</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Infiniti is looking to make a big splash as it enters the European market at an unfortunate economic moment, and not much can tug at the heartstrings of the continent's populace like a high-powered, sexy coupe with a green soul. With the Essence concept, Nissan's upscale brand has delivered in a big way. The sultry cab-backwards coupe is nothing if not dramatically indulgent in its scale (it's a commanding 4.7-meters long), and the rear-drive, gas-electric hybrid is something to behold in the metal, with elements that recall other coupes (the Fisker Karma comes to mind), but a look all its own.<br /><br />Powered by a twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.7-liter V6 and a new electric drive design dubbed "3D Motor", the Essence yields a combined 592 brake horsepower (434 via internal-combustion, 158 brake horsepower via the lithium-ion backed disc-shaped electric motor).<br /><br />The very unjapanese scale of the Essence yields a more Nippon-influenced interior for two, including an attractive driver-oriented "cocoon" that features a flat-bottomed steering wheel, hand-painted wood designed to look like Japanese laquerware and eccentricities like asymmetrical seat seams that mimic the way 'Japanese men and women tie their kimonos." Presumably, said kimonos fit nicely in the bespoke Louis Vuitton luggage (made more accessible via a powered trunk shelf).<br /><br />Click <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-consider-the-show-stopped-infiniti-rolls-out-its-e/">on the jump</a> to watch a video of the Essence in motion, as well specs and a press release including details on the coupe's next-generation Safety Shield side collision prevention and back-up collision prevention technology.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-infiniti-essence">Geneva 2009: Infiniti Essence</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-infiniti-essence/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01-infiniti-essence-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-infiniti-essence/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02-infiniti-essence-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-infiniti-essence/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03-infiniti-essence-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-infiniti-essence/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/04-infiniti-essence-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-infiniti-essence/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/05-infiniti-essence-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept">Infiniti Essence Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/05-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/06-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-consider-the-show-stopped-infiniti-rolls-out-its-e/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Geneva 2009: Consider The Show Stopped - Infiniti rolls out its Essence on a grand scale</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-consider-the-show-stopped-infiniti-rolls-out-its-e/">Geneva 2009: Consider The Show Stopped - Infiniti rolls out its Essence on a grand scale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 06:05:00 EST. <p>Countless BMW owners have been frustrated for some time with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/22/bmw-owners-claim-software-update-degrades-performance/">software-induced turbo lag</a> on their N54 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 engines. While early models were acclaimed for their immediate power delivery, it seems BMW felt it necessary to address "specific noise concerns" with the engine and made software changes in models built between June 2006 and March 2008. Those changes introduced turbo lag - the noticeable delay between the throttle and the time it takes for the turbocharger to spin and produce power. Enthusiasts were up in arms, but BMW refused to recognize their concerns (addressed on nearly every BMW message board, and by the BMW Car Club of America)... until now. According to a statement from the automaker, new software will be released in January 2009 that will restore the original turbocharger response. Of course, it comes with a warning that it may result in "slightly increased engine noise levels." As if an enthusiast cares... <em>Thanks for the tip Michael!</em></p>

<p>When we last saw the Lotus Esprit in 2004, it was equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at about 350 hp. Offering much more motivation than its early turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplant, the Esprit V8 was quick -- pedal to the floor, the two-seat coupe could punch through 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. Impressive as it was just a few years ago, there are more than a handful of cars (at half the price) that can shame the Lotus back across the Pond today.</p>
<p>To keep the upcoming 2011 Lotus Esprit at the front of the pack, it is rumored to be fitted with the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 found under the hood of the recently released BMW X6. The powerplant is rated at 400 horsepower with only light boost under the German's hood. Under the fiberglass cover of the future British Esprit, it will most likely be tuned to deliver nearly 500 horsepower. It will need every bit of power it can get, as the new Lotus will be competing with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/05/spy-shots-updated-porsche-911-turbo/">Porsche 911 Turbo</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/19/ferrari-f430-gt2-ready-to-take-on-challengers-in-2008/">Ferrari F430</a>, and the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/06/pre-orders-begin-at-691-gt-r-certified-nissan-dealers-in-the-u/">Nissan GT-R</a>. </p>

The praise is understandable and well-deserved, as the engine uses a combination of forced induction and direct injection to serve up a torque curve that's far beefier and flatter than what should be expected from a engine of its size. So what next for the propeller brand? Simple -- take similar technology, add it to the company's 4.4L V8 and toss in a dash of unconventional packaging to make everything fit. <br /><br />BMW put its latest jewel on display at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, and we snapped some shots of it to give you an idea of why this engine is so special. We've included those photos in one of our galleries, and below the fold, we've thrown in a few observations. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-4-4l-v8-twin-turbo">Detroit 2008: BMW 4.4L V8 twin-turbo</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-4-4l-v8-twin-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-4_4ltt-cutaway-07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-4-4l-v8-twin-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-4_4ltt-cutaway-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-4-4l-v8-twin-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-4_4ltt-cutaway-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-4-4l-v8-twin-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-4_4ltt-cutaway-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-4-4l-v8-twin-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-4_4ltt-cutaway-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/21/detroit-2008-bmws-twin-turbo-4-4l-v8/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008: BMW's twin-turbo 4.4L V8</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/21/detroit-2008-bmws-twin-turbo-4-4l-v8/">Detroit 2008: BMW's twin-turbo 4.4L V8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 21 Jan 2008 13:29:00 EST. Not surprisingly, it's almost identical to what we saw in Frankfurt, with a sharply-raked backlight and hatchback replacing the squared-off rump of the X5. BMW likes to describe it as a blend between a coupe and a crossover, which leads us to ask - is it possible to crossover from something that's already a crossover? Does this mean that it's been double-crossed? The mind boggles. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-bmw-unwraps-the-production-x6/">Follow the jump</a> for our first impression...<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-x6-live-shots">New York 2008: 2009 BMW X6 - Live</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-x6-live-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/2009-bmw-x6-21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-x6-live-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/2009-bmw-x6-22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-x6-live-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/2009-bmw-x6-19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-x6-live-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/2009-bmw-x6-18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-x6-live-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/2009-bmw-x6-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-bmw-unwraps-the-production-x6/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008: BMW unwraps the production X6</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-bmw-unwraps-the-production-x6/">Detroit 2008: BMW unwraps the production X6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 13 Jan 2008 16:23:00 EST. When inspecting the layout, he noticed two intercoolers, and the best guess now is that the V8 fitted to the new 7-series could be the same engine employed in the new M3. With over 400 horsepower on tap in naturally-aspirated guise, it's not a stretch to think that this blown motor could produce upwards of 500 HP with limited tweaking. M7 anyone?<br /><br />When the new 7-series goes on sale in late 2009, those suspicions will be confirmed.<br /><br />[Source: Straighline]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/28/spy-shots-twin-turbo-v8-bmw-7-series-at-the-ring/">Spy Shots: Twin-turbo V8 BMW 7-series at the 'Ring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 28 Jun 2007 08:36:00 EST. But with all that was going on, time was limited, and aside from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/07/geneva-motor-show-the-sincerest-form-of-flattery-mini-me-r8-t/">R8-ified TT</a> and those <a href="http://news.windingroad.com/etc/geneva-motor-show-the-coolest-swiss-wheelchair-weve-ever-seen/">kick ass chairs</a> that our friend Paukert found, there wasn't too much of interest. Then we came across this.<br /><br />Luc-Michel Faichaud didn't think that the stock RB in his Skyline R34 GT-R would keep up with the rigors of track duty at the power levels he wanted to produce, so he yanked the stock mill and replaced it with a 6.7L V12. And then - just for kicks - bolted on four turbos. The result: 1000+ HP, 1000 NM of torque, a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and a quarter mile trap speed at the low end of nine seconds. Complete with carbon-ceramic brakes (381mm front, 355mm rear), 13x18-inch wheels and weighing a paltry 2,200 pounds, the <a href="http://skylinev12.neufblog.com/">GTR "Unlimited"</a> can reach a maximum speed of 220 MPH and seems to be the highlight of several shows and tuner magazines abroad.<br /><br />Unfortunately, we were on our way out the door when we snapped these few pics, so no one was on hand to answer questions or pop the hood. <em>UPDATE: But, Mr. Faichaud did contact us with some additional information about the car, which we've added to the post.</em> We would've given our last franc just to sit in the driver's seat, but alas, time wasn't on our side. Frankfurt's coming up at the end of the year, so maybe we'll have a second chance to see the "Unlimited" up close again.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/digitalchip-tt-v12-skyline-gt-r">DigitalChip TT V12 Skyline GT-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/digitalchip-tt-v12-skyline-gt-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/digitalchip_skyline_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/digitalchip-tt-v12-skyline-gt-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/digitalchip_skyline_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/digitalchip-tt-v12-skyline-gt-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/digitalchip_skyline_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/digitalchip-tt-v12-skyline-gt-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/digitalchip_skyline_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/digitalchip-tt-v12-skyline-gt-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/digitalchip_skyline_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/10/geneva-motor-show-digitalchips-v12-quad-turbo-r34-gt-r/">Geneva Motor Show: V12 quad-turbo R34 GT-R</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 10 Mar 2007 14:31:00 EST. In addition to the expected static displays, MPH '06 ups the motor show ante by incorporating a Jeremy Clarkson-hosted live demonstration of supercars like the Magnum in a theatrical setting (<a href="http://www.mphshow.com/files/MPH_05web.wmv">see video</a>). This gives showgoers the opportunity to see the cars in all their tire-smoking powersliding glory. <br /><br />To <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2005/09/08/another-blazingly-fast-cayenne/">rewind</a> a bit: the Magnum made its official debut at last year's Frankfurt show, and benefits from the fitment of larger turbos, a new intercooler, TechArt intake and exhaust, new air filter and a reprogrammed ECU. Complementing the SUV's 600 horses is a healthy 638 lb ft of torque. 62 mph arrives in a scant 4.5 seconds and the top speed is a ridiculous 181 mph.<br /><br />Equally ridiculous, unfortunately, is the TechArt body kit that turns the Magnum's front end into a busy mess. We know that the Cayenne is not exactly an easy starting point, but a look that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/16/ber-cayman-techart-gtsport-looks-great-packs-punch/">works for the Cayman</a> does not fare nearly as well here. Too bad, because from the rear and sides, the Magnum looks sharp. Hopefully, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/28/fresh-pepper-facelifted-cayenne-spied/">refreshed Cayenne</a> will give tuners more to work with up front. <br /><br />All that said, we'd gladly pay the price of admission to see the Magnum shriek across the stage as Clarkson dishes out the one-liners. 600 horses is a lot, and like we said, TechArt knows what it's doing. Should be a helluva show.<br /><br />(Rear view shot, press releases after the jump)<br /><br />[Sources: MPH '06 / TechArt]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/16/techart-magnum-600hp-cayenne-turbo-to-appear-at-mph-06/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TechArt Magnum: 600HP Cayenne Turbo to appear at MPH '06</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/16/techart-magnum-600hp-cayenne-turbo-to-appear-at-mph-06/">TechArt Magnum: 600HP Cayenne Turbo to appear at MPH '06</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 16 Aug 2006 11:02:00 EST. The base 328i model will now start at $35,300, the all-wheel drive 328xi will start at $37,100, and the 335i with the new twin-turbo 3.0L inline-six will start at $40,600.<br /><br />BMW must know what people are willing to pay, as the reaction on e90post.com's forum has been one of understanding. The 328i will come with a new, naturally aspirated inline-six that produces 230 horsepower and 200 ft-lbs. of torque, enough to make the base coupe quicker to 60 mph than the current top-of-the-line 330Ci coupe. The new 335i, of course, has BMW's trick twin-turbo 3.0L inline-six cylinder that generates 300 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque.
