The 2013 Gumball 3000 rally - this year is the 15th anniversary of the supercar cavalcade - will begin on March 18 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Among the 120 go-faster-mobiles at the starting line will be two rides that just might pierce the ennui of the loaded leisure class: a replica of Batman's Tumbler and a one-off supercar.

The two gents of Team Galag, from Saudi Arabia, have put the ideas and money behind it. This will be their third year running the Gumball, and from the humble beginnings of a Porsche 911 Turbo in 2011 they went on to a Lamborghini Aventador and Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster last year. The Tumbler is being built by Parker Brothers Concepts, the company that constructs vehicles for the SyFy Channel's Dream Machines show.

As for that one-off supercar, it's called the TG1 for the time being and building it has been "a decision that we have regretted ever since." Not that there won't be a TG2, mind you. They've promised updates on the build, so we can safely say that it's not the diamond-trimmed LykanHypersport. Which is a good thing.

If you want to look out for them, the Gumball route runs through Stockholm, Turku (Finland), Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Riga, Warsaw and Vienna on its way to the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix the weekend of May 23.
Gumball 3000 team planning to run Batman Tumbler and bespoke supercar originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 26 Jan 2013 09:00:00 EST.
Fans are flocking to the Pittsburgh set of the newest installment in the Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises. If we lived nearby, we'd be there all the time as well - the action consists of a fleet of Tumblers, a handful of fight scenes, the Batpod and random glimpses of Ms. Anne Hathaway. When Hathaway isn't catching the affection of the camera lens, however, it is her stunt double that gets to clamp down on the Batpod throttle.

What's it like to ride that unique Lucius Fox creation? We imagine it's a tough undertaking, but the stunt double keeps the seemingly heavy and unwieldy bike upright with ease. That doesn't mean accidents won't happen, but in the clip posted after the jump we see Catwoman B getting some pointers.
Continue reading Batpod and Tumblers spotted filming with Catwoman stunt double aboard

Batpod and Tumblers spotted filming with Catwoman stunt double aboard originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 22 Aug 2011 14:58:00 EST.
If you're like us, you must be thinking that the next Batman film The Dark Night Rises can't get here soon enough. Problem is, production work hasn't even finished yet. The crew was recently spotted in Pittsburgh filming scenes for the upcoming flick, and few lucky folks managed to capture footage of a trio of Tumbler urban assault vehicles rolling through town.

YouTube users DoctaM3 filmed the Tumblers rumbling through the city, while Subaruwrxfan managed to get up close with a Tumbler parked on the street. The camo paint scheme is quite a change from the ominous black Batmobile Tumbler we're used to seeing. Still, the sound these hulking beasts make as the roll past is quite inviting. Click past the jump for both clips.
Continue reading Batmobile Tumbler caravan snagged rolling through Pittsburgh

Batmobile Tumbler caravan snagged rolling through Pittsburgh originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 15:28:00 EST.
It seems that Hollywood may be on to something after all. According to Hisham Awad, Future Protected Vehicles project leader for British defense contractor BAE Systems, the Raider unmanned skirmisher was inspired by the Batmobile, or, more specifically, the Tumbler from the two most recent Batman flicks starring Christian Bale.

"Well, why not? In all seriousness, we decided that we didn't have a monopoly on inspiration, and if we saw something in a film that we thought might be a good idea, why not take a look at it and see if there's something practical we can develop?"

That's a sound argument. "It turns like a motorbike and it has the same wheel configuration," says Awad, though we also note a somewhat more conspicuous machine gun up top. Apparently, such a Hollywood/military connection isn't all that rare - today's troop carriers are said to be modeled after James Cameron's armored vehicles from Aliens.

So, what's next? Awad reportedly mentioned the Light Cycles from Tron, but we're leaning more in the direction of The Green Hornet's Black Beauty. Anybody got Kato on speed dial?

Batman Tumbler go kart - Click above for high-res image gallery

So, you jumped at the chance to pick up a full-size replica of the Batsuit as worn by the Caped Crusader during his cleanup of Gotham City in The Dark Knight. What's next? Might we suggest a fully functional replica of Batman's Tumbler... albeit somewhat downsized and powered by a 6.5-horsepower engine?

That's right, you can now purchase plans to build your very own Tumbler go kart on eBay or on T-Man's official site. Pictures of the finished product can be seen below, so there's no worry that it can't be built - assuming you've got the welding chops to make it happen. While studios and publishers do their best to monetize their hottest properties, the care and feeding lavished upon them by hardcore fans takes things to entirely different levels. Exhaustive web resources, fan fiction, and fan art are just a few examples of how aficionados pay tribute to the characters, movies, and shows they love. As is often the case, these interests frequently cross over, and sometimes, blending two properties results in a creation that's just incredibly cool. That's what Jester and Jolin from Jester Pictures have done.

What you see above is an Autobot version of Batman's Tumbler, and it makes you kinda wish Optimus Prime & co. landed in Gotham City instead of California, allying themselves with the Bat instead of Sam Witwicky. Seriously, as if the Tumbler wasn't mean enough already, its fantasy Autobot form is eye-popping. Note the shape of its head, the bat-shield logo on its chest, and even the incorporation of the utility belt. The Autobot bat-signal in the sky is a nice touch, too. Thanks to "94 taurus Owner" for the tip!

[Source: Jester Pictures via DonMurphy.net via TFLAMB]
Gotham meets Cybertron originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 13 Jul 2008 13:33:00 EST. So don't expect to see the Stig doing his thing in the Tumbler anytime soon. Check out the rest of the pics at Flickr; we're off to drown our disappointment in a pint.

We don't have any details on when this happened or <strike>if</strike> when Top Gear will air the man in white piloting Batman's meanest machine. But with the Tumbler making its recent appearance at the British GP with Toyota, was there any doubt that something like this was going to go down? We're taking bets about what kind of time the Tumbler is going to set around the TG test track.
