To that end, GM has announced a new, smaller lead executive team comprising of nine total members, including CEO Fritz Henderson. Missing from the team are manufacturing head Gary Cowger and GM North America President Troy Clarke, who are among six GM execs who elected to retire. Among the notable lead execs are marketing and communications Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, Product Development head Tom Stephens and U.S. Sales VP Mark LeNeve.

Also announced were the last five members to be elected to the GM board. In all, the U.S. government selected 10 board members, while the Canadian government and United Auto Workers each selected one. Fritz Henderson is the 13th board member. Among the new board members is TPS founder David Bonderman, who just so happens to be one of the richest people on earth. Bonderman reportedly spend $7 million on his 60th birthday party, which included performances by John Mellencamp and the Rolling Stones. To his credit, TPS is an equity firm that has so far weathered the shaky financial markets. Hit the jump to look over the two GM press releases.

[Source: General Motors]
Continue reading Cowger and Clarke retire, GM announces more exec appointments and new board members

Cowger and Clarke retire, GM announces more exec appointments and new board members originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 24 Jul 2009 11:00:00 EST. Clarke has been president of GM Asia Pacific since 2004.

The 51 year-old Clarke joined GM at the Pontiac division in 1973. He moved to GM de Mexico in 1997, ultimately becoming president and managing director of the Mexico operation. He moved back to the U.S. in 2001, first as vice president of labor relations, and later as vice president of manufacturing and labor relations.

David "Nick" Reilly, president and CEO of GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. in South Korea, becomes GM's new president GM Asia Pacific.

Clarke's North America labor relations background (he was GM's chief negotiator during the 2003 labor negotiations) should prove very useful as GM tries to unravel the Delphi mess and restructure its own North America operations.

[Source: GM] Thanks to Poe for the tip!
Troy Clarke named president of GM North America originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 30 May 2006 11:05:00 EST.
