There's way too much ground to cover at the Las Vegas Convention Center each year at the SEMA Show, so inevitably, some cool stuff always slips through the cracks. Apparently, in our rush to cover 1940 Ford body shells and the ICON Dodge D200, we missed this gem. Top Speed found a video of the Traxxas stand at this year's event showing the company's latest radio-controlled car hitting triple-digit speeds on a dyno. In the video, the Traxxas X0-1 tops out at 104 miles per hour with its motors hitting 22,500 rpm.

The X0-1 might be a 1/7 scale car, but its performance puts it in competition with just about anything on four wheels. Introduced almost a year ago, the four-wheel-drive X0-1 is an RC supercar that can accelerate from 0-100 mph in under five seconds. Using the Traxxas Link app, you can even use your iPhone as the RC car's controller and telemetry screen. Like any other supercar, the X0-1 isn't cheap with a retail price of $1,014.99.

Traxxas has done a smart job of establishing itself as a toymaker for grownups. With radio-controlled iterations of Ken Block's Ford Fiesta gymkhana car and Vaughn Gittin Jr's Ford Mustang drift machine, the company has something for everyone.

Or at least it does now. Traxxas is now producing R/C funny cars for straight-line antics. The cars are capable of over 70 miles per hour, come with an adjustable wheelie bar and a TQi 2.4GHz controller with all sorts of fun modes. Launch control, race, burnout and staging modes are all part of the programming. A 1/8th scale Christmas tree is also available.

So far, there are only four funny car models. Buyers may choose between Courtney Force's Ford Mustang, John Force's Castrol GTX Ford Mustang, Mike Neff's Castrol GTX Ford Mustang or Robert Hight's AAA Auto Club Ford Mustang. Scroll down to see a quick video of the cars in action.
Continue reading Traxxas now makes an R/C funny car.
Let's be honest: 100 miles per hour is fast. Especially for a remote control car. Sure, there are real cars that can easily double than number, and a few baseball pitchers who can throw that fast, but this is a toy we're talking about. Except that it's not.

Helping to keep it out of underage hands is a $1099.99 price tag.

"The XO-1 is not a toy and is intended for use by experts only," says Traxxas, who warns that the XO-1 carries a risk of fire, injury or death! Further suggestions include operating the car only on a closed course, like a real racetrack or drag strip, where the XO-1 should be able to go 0-60 in just 2.3 seconds, on the way to its 100-mile-per-hour-plus top speed.

Controlling this lithium-polymer-battery-powered, all-wheel-drive projectile requires an iPhone or iPod Touch, so you can run the Traxxas Link telemetry app that unlocks the car's top speed. Traxxas suggests you be of legal driving age to operate its 100-mph speedster, and helping to keep it out of underage hands is a $1099.99 price tag.

The third installment in the DiRT video game franchise, DiRT 3, hits stores on May 24, 2011. It will cost you $59.99 for a copy, which is steep, but completely in-line with the pricing for today's video games. If you have a few extra coins hiding under the couch cushions, however, then GameStop has a tantalizing product bundle for you. Spend $299 to reserve a copy of DiRT 3, and you will also get the Traxxas Ken Block R/C Ford Fiesta.

If you were already considering buying the radio-controlled gymkhana machine, then this is a great deal, because it essentially throws the game in for free. If, like us, you were thinking of buying the Codemasters game, and you currently have R/C cars on the brain, this deal means you have to explain to your wife why the American Express bill shows a GameStop purchase for nearly five times the previously discussed amount.

Click past the jump to see why sleeping on the couch will be worth it come May 24. Thanks to all for the tips!

Master of the Gymkhanna (with a minor in marketing) Ken Block has teamed up with Traxxas to create a radio-controlled version of Block's #43 Ford Fiesta. The 1/16-scale Fiesta is fitted with a brushless motor that turns all four wheels and sends the mini-Block car down your driveway at up to 30 miles per hour. If that's not enough juice to play out your dreams of winning a Gymkhana event, you can opt for another setup that features a new pinion gear, second NiMH battery and series connector. The additional hardware raises the top speed to over 50 mph.

The car is currently selling for around $300. No word on whether that price includes replaceable fenders and other body panels... a necessity after the Ken Block RC car inevitably hits a tree. Check out a mini Gymkhanna-style video of the micro car in action after the break... and, answering the last possible remaining question, proof that it will indeed blend.
