Want to start your own Formula One team? There's space on the grid next season since USF1 failed to make it this year, and we wish you better luck. But it takes more than luck to start a team from scratch. It takes a lot of know-how, a lot of money, and a lot of equipment. That's where this auction comes in.

About half of the grand prix races on the calendar are based in Europe, so when they're not flying around the world to far-off destinations, F1 teams spend a lot of time on the road. That's why the spec out their own trailers, to shuttle their personnel and equipment from track to track across the old continent. When USF1 was gearing up for their ill-fated endeavor, they bought a pair of trailers from the World Champion Brawn GP team (having apparently been used by the Honda team beforehand) before they evidently got new ones through their acquisition by Mercedes-Benz.

The trailers - which were supposed to be repainted in red, white and blue - never made it that far in USF1's hands. The team ultimately shut down, and this pair of trailers was seized by the courts in the UK. Now the local sheriff's department has put them up for sale on eBay Motors. They come equipped with all the bells and whistles, including place for three race cars, elevator platforms to unload them engineering offices, generators, on-board metal lathe milling machine...the works. They don't, however, come with the tractors to pull them, or the cars they're meant to transport...or a matching Bugatti Veyron for that matter. Reportedly worth some £300,000 (nearly half a million dollars) apiece when new, each is selling without reserve to the highest bidder, with current bid prices at the time of writing standing at £16,100 ($25k) and £12,900 ($20k) respectively. Check 'em out in the auction listing for all the details. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

The Proud American and Bonneville Boss - Click above for high-res image gallery

Before our favorite weekly Southern California car gathering this Saturday, we had been told by a friend that he'd be bringing his new rocket truck. Rocket truck? What the heck's a rocket truck? Visions of rocket-powered pickups and semis running the quarter mile immediately came to mind. Did some drag racer sell Tom his race truck? Is that what he was bringing to the show?

As soon as we came around the corner we knew he hadn't. We knew this with absolute certainty because we saw a giant nosecone towering above the treeline. There was, in fact, a rocket-powered land speed record (LSR) car positioned at a launch-worthy angle atop a most amazing truck. Rocket, truck... Rocket truck. Makes sense now. But what was this thing and where did it come from? You can read the whole wacky story after the jump.

We knew the new 500 was maneuverable, but Fiat's local marketing schemes have enabled the car to go up in the air and down under ground, too. Following the British unveiling of the car on the London Eye, the German debut of the 500 takes it around Berlin's subway on flatbed railway cars.

The subway cars also carry the slogan "Happy New Car of the Year Everybody", highlighting the proverbial feather in the 500's cap of awards, the 2008 European Car of the Year citation. The 500 was only the second A-segment (read: really small) car to win the award, following the 2004 citation for the Fiat Panda, on whose platform the 500 is based. Since the award was inaugurated in 1964, Fiats have won the award nine times, with another three going to vehicles from sister companies Lancia and Alfa Romeo.

We're not sure if we'd be entertained or annoyed to see a promotional subway train carrying the 500s roll past while waiting for our train, but if you're in Berlin between now and the end of the month, head down into a U-Bahn station and see for yourself.

These include laptop computers, PDAs, stereo systems, cell phones... you name it. Those are just the electronics, and just a few of them at that. But this... this is just too much. Ferrari, in its unquenchable thirst for more licensing opportunities, has teamed up with Segway to offer this special-edition scarlet scooter.

Okay, we'll concede that Ferrari employees actually use Segways to get around the ever-growing factory in Maranello, and heaven forbid they should use anything that isn't emblazoned with the Prancing Horse emblem. So while they were at it, the two companies at polar opposite ends of the wheeled transportation spectrum evidently decided to offer these Italian hybrids to the public.

And so the Segway PT i2 Ferrari Limited Edition was born, complete with Rosso paintwork and leather handlebars. Otherwise it's completely stock, so don't expect to be out-running anything with, you know... an actual engine, or other Segways for that matter. Like the standard Segway, it's designed to fit into the trunk of a car (maybe of a Scaglietti) and turns as instinctively as Kimi Raikkonen on the apex at this past weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Don't think this makes the geek's alternative to walking actually cool or anything, and it's no faster in any way than an ordinary Segway. But if you're filthy rich and you've wisely invested your wealth in a massive collection of Ferraris old and new, it may (and we'll stress may) make for a nice way to get around the garage. (We'll walk, thanks.)

Thanks to James for the tip.
