<br /> Here's a worthwhile goal: Let's see if we can get through this entire post without even mentioning <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/toyota+recall">unintended acceleration or recalls</a>. Whoops. Let's talk about something else, shall we? How about the movie <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1022603/"><em>(500) Days of Summer</em></a>, which we saw not too long ago on the big screen.<br /> <br /> Perhaps our favorite scene from the movie, which was all-around pretty good, was when Tom Gordon, ably played by <a onclick="(new Image()).src='/rg/castlist/position-1/images/b.gif?link=/name/nm0330687/';" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0330687/">Joseph Gordon-Levitt</a>, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2seAJsrtIbQ">danced his way through the city</a> after, ahem... well, let's just say he had himself a good day. And that <a onclick="(new Image()).src='/rg/castlist/position-2/images/b.gif?link=/name/nm0221046/';" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0221046/">Zooey Deschanel</a> is as cute as a button, assuming that brunette button were to have lovely light blue eyes and a great smile.<br /> <br /> Anyway, it was a memorable scene. And <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/toyota">Toyota</a>'s Australian arm seems to have noticed it as well, using a very similar tactic for a new commercial highlighting the new locally built <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/camry">Toyota Camry Hybrid</a>. Have we mentioned how much we love ourselves some classic Hall and Oates? No? Well, never mind then. Just watch the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/25/video-500-days-of-the-au-toyota-camry-hybrid/#continued">after the break</a> for some classic '80s goodness. <em>Thanks for the tip, Mark!</em><br /> <br /> [Source: Toyota AU via <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjbXpuM51Wo">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/25/video-500-days-of-the-au-toyota-camry-hybrid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: (500) Days of the AU Toyota Camry Hybrid?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/25/video-500-days-of-the-au-toyota-camry-hybrid/">Video: (500) Days of the AU Toyota Camry Hybrid?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 25 Feb 2010 16:58:00 EST. <br />
Controversy's rearing its tawdry head Down Under as a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota/">Toyota</a> film contest has got some laughing, others crying foul play. The <a href="http://www.cleverfilmcomp.com.au/Guidelines.aspx">Clever Film Competition</a> solicited contestants to come up with 30-second commercial clips for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/yaris">Toyota Yaris</a>, awarding $7000 (well, Australian dollars anyway) to the winning entry. And while the rules stated that the entries cannot be "immoral" or "contain any obscene language," one contestant evidently felt the boundaries ought to be pushed a little. And the judges evidently agreed.<br />
<br />
The winning entry - entitled "Clean Getaways" - portrays a young Yaris driver picking up his date and encountering her father at the door. The exchange between them is packed with more innuendo than <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/06/innuendo-alert-jenna-jamesons-lamborghini-sold-on-ebay/">a porn star's Lamborghini</a>, and though Toyota's local spokesman says they're not distancing themselves from the clip, public outcry has resulted in it being pulled from the contest website. Fortunately, we've got it posted <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/14/video-australian-yaris-ad-gets-banned-for-being-raunchy/#continued">after the jump</a> for your enjoyment... just don't watch it with the boss hovering around. Or the wife, for that matter. On second thought, better watch it when no one's around. But watch it just the same. <em>Cheers to Mark and Oleg for the tips!</em><br />

<br />
What do you want from me... I've only got two hands?! Wouldn't we all be a bit more productive if we were blessed with another set of upper appendages, complete with opposable thumbs? Toyota apparently thinks so, and the Japanese automotive giant is using the point to prove that two drivetrains are better than one.<br />
<br />
Of course, the two drivetrains in question belong to the new 2010 Toyota Prius, which mates an electric motor capable of powering the car by its lonesome (albeit briefly) and a small, efficient gas-burning 1.8-liter four cylinder internal combustion engine in one happy marriage to produce the perfect hybrid. Or something like that.<br />

Click past the break</a> to watch the advertisement for the new 2010 Prius in Australia. Oh, and Vishnu? <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishnu">Click here</a> for an explanation of the title reference. <em>Thanks for the tip, Mark C</em>!<br />

<br />
Toyota made plenty of noise with the beefy commercials that launched the latest Tundra, but since then, it's been relatively quiet from the "Oh, what a feeling!" guys and gals. <br />
<br />
Thankfully, there's Australia. For the AU market, Toyota's agency has whipped up a witty campaign that depicts our kind of land, and our kind of trucks. This "Nothing Soft Gets In" spot shows a particularly strict bunch of border patrol guards that dispose of poodles and disallow the tying of a sweater around one's neck. Awesome. Watching a bunch of Oz-market Toyota Prados being used for more than mall duty is equally entertaining, too. Check it out for yourself, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/25/video-toyota-trucks-nothing-soft-gets-in/">after the jump</a>. <br />

<br />Next year, Toyota Australia will begin local production of the Camry Hybrid. To celebrate this (and drum up some PR), Toyota Style Australia has created the HC-CV (Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle) for the 2009 Melbourne Motor Show. What is that, exactly? Well, it's essentially the recently-updated <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-camry-1/1279057/">2010 Camry Hybrid</a>, gussied up with a custom white paint color, a modified fascia, some snazzy wheels, blue decals and accents, and leather seats that incorporate the Hybrid Synergy Drive wave logo. Strip away the assorted pieces of flair, and you get the production car that's already been unveiled, only with the steering wheel moved over to the wrong side. See more of the HC-CV in the gallery below. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-hc-cv">Toyota HC-CV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-hc-cv/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/fccv_hi_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-hc-cv/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/fccv_hi_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-hc-cv/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/fccv_hi_009_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-hc-cv/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/fccv_hi_010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-hc-cv/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/fccv_hi_011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Toyota Australia]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/22/melbourne-2009-toyota-hc-cv-hybrid-camry-concept-vehicle/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Melbourne 2009: Toyota HC-CV (Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/22/melbourne-2009-toyota-hc-cv-hybrid-camry-concept-vehicle/">Melbourne 2009: Toyota HC-CV (Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 22 Feb 2009 23:59:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/02/melbourne-toyota-shows-off-trd-versions-of-aurion-sedan-and-hil/">concept version bowed a year ago</a>, and while the production truck was shown <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/20/toyota-australia-to-unveil-trd-hilux-in-brisbane/">at the Brisbane show</a> earlier this month (supposedly its "official" debut), the <em>officially</em> official debut is taking place tomorrow in Melbourne, where this all began way back when. To back that up, additional photos of the supercharged TRD HiLix have been released along with a new press release, but Toyota is still being coy with the hard numbers. All the Aussie division says is that the blown 4.0L will make around 25% more power and 20% more torque than the standard-issue HiLux SR5 Double Cab's mill, while consuming a bit less fuel, to boot. Toyota will presumably confirm the final power and torque figures tomorrow, which we expect to be around 300 hp / 330 lb-ft. That's enough to let the TRD HiLux make the 0 - 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in under 7.5 seconds. Our friends Down Under get to pound on the new sport truck in April, when it joins the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/20/toyota-australia-launches-trd-aurion-with-323-h/">TRD Aurion</a> in showrooms. <em>Follow the jump for Toyota's latest (but probably not the last) press release. </em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/trd-hilux-au">TRD HiLux (AU)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/trd-hilux-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/08trdhilux_prod_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/trd-hilux-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/08trdhilux_prod_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/trd-hilux-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/08trdhilux_prod_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/trd-hilux-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/08trdhilux_prod_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/trd-hilux-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/08trdhilux_prod_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Toyota]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/28/pics-aplenty-trd-hilux-to-make-official-debut-in-melbourne/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TRD HiLux to make official debut in Melbourne. While TRD-editions of existing Toyota vehicles have been available in many markets over the years, the TRD Aurion is the first vehicle worldwide to be sold as a TRD -- now established as a new, separate brand under Toyota, like AMG is worldwide for Mercedes, and HSV and FPV are for GM and Ford in Australia. <br /><br />Viewed as a step up from the Toyota Aurion Sportivo in terms of both equipment, appearance, and performance, the TRD Aurion's greatest asset is its Eaton TVS (Twin Vortices Series) Supercharger, which sees its first production car application here. The blower gives the TRD Aurion over 323 horsepower and a torque peak of 296 lb-ft, which is channeled forward via a six-speed automatic with sequential shift. 0-100km/h (62 mph) takes 6.1 seconds, and the car is limited to a top speed of 155 mph. Neither number is particularly earth-shattering compared to other specialty models, but TRD says that the goal was to achieve all-around balance rather than all-out performance. Combined-cycle fuel economy for the TRD Aurion is 21.5 US MPG. <br /><br />Follow the jump for more, including multiple press releases from Toyota Australia. <br /><br />[Source: Toyota Australia]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-and-3500sl">2007 TRD Aurion (AU)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-and-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-and-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-and-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-and-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-and-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-au">2007 TRD Aurion 3500S (AU)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_019_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_020_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_021_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_022_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500s-au/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_023_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500sl">2007 TRD Aurion 3500SL (AU)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_009_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-trd-aurion-3500sl/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/07trdaurion_au_011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/20/toyota-australia-launches-trd-aurion-with-323-h/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Toyota Australia launches TRD Aurion with 323 HP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/20/toyota-australia-launches-trd-aurion-with-323-h/">Toyota Australia launches TRD Aurion with 323 HP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 20 Aug 2007 14:55:00 EST. <p>John Conomos, Toyota of Australia's executive chairman has announced that he will be retiring, effective June 23.
The 63-year-old won't disappear from the company's offices entirely, however-- he will be taking a lesser role as chair
emeritus and 'principal policy advisor.'</p>
<p>Interestingly, the position had been created just for Conomos, so Toyota has no plan to install a direct
replacement, though his duties as managing officer will be picked up by someone at the company's yearly shareholder
meeting in June.</p>
