If the idea of building a four-seat hard-top convertible supercar in Holland strikes you as off-the-wall, then its racing counterpart should blow your mind. We're talking about Savage Rivale, the markers of the Roadyacht GTS and the competition-spec GTR model it just unveiled at the Top Marques show in Monaco.

Packing upwards of 700 horsepower from a turbocharged 6.2-liter V8, the Savage Rivale GTR is said to be good for 2.8-second sprint to 62 miles per hour and a 360-km/h (234-mph) top speed. With those capabilities, the race-ready Savage is earmarked to tackle the Nürburgring Norschleife lap record for four-door automobiles, a distinction which (to the best of our understanding, anyway) currently belongs to a Subaru Impreza WRX STI driven by rally ace Tommi Mäkinen for Car and Driver in 2010 to a 7:55 lap time, edging out Pikes Peak legend Walter Röhrl in the Porsche Panamera Turbo at 7:56 the previous year.

Only 69 examples are slated for production. We're still waiting on final specifications to be released, but in the meantime you can check out the gallery of high-resolution images from its unveiling in Monte Carlo in the gallery above.
Savage Rivale GTR earns Top Marques in Monaco originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 May 2012 18:32:00 EST.
It takes a lot to stand apart at an exposition as jam-packed with glitzy treasure as the Frankfurt Motor Show and impress the hordes of automotive journalists there assembled, but we were suitably impressed when we laid eyes upon the Rimac Concept_One at the Messe this past September. The Croatian upstart put together a supercar of (figurative, if not literal) Bugatti proportions, but instead of building it around a fossil-guzzling conventional powerplant, Rimac designed its hypercar with the equivalent of 1,088-horsepower worth of electric motors.

With a 92kW battery powering the electric motors at each wheel, the Rimac is said to be capable of rocketing to 62 from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds while traveling as far as 372 miles on a single charge. The team of former Pininfarina designers penned an attractive shape to go with it, the Bulgarian leathercrafters extraordinaires at Vilner were brought in to craft the interior, HRE developed a unique set of monoblock alloys and Vredestein debuted its new Ultrac Vorti tires designed by Giugiaro all for the Concept_One.

Impressive specs, all, but what's most impressive is that the Concept_One is no mere concept - you can actually buy it, assuming you've got the scratch. Upon showcasing the electric supercar at Top Marques in Monaco, Rimac announced a limited run of 88 examples will be built, each fetching $980,000 - a price as princely as the regent who was on hand to check it out in Monte Carlo. Which only goes to prove that you can, indeed, have your cake and eat it too, but it'll cost you dearly.

Take a closer look at the fresh crop of high-resolution images added to the gallery above and check out the bonus video of the car moving under its own power by scrolling below.
Continue reading Rimac Concept_One shows up in Monaco with $980k sticker price [w/video]

Rimac Concept_One shows up in Monaco with $980k sticker price [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 30 Apr 2012 13:31:00 EST.
It's been almost a fortnight, which just might be a record, since we last visited a previously unheard-of supercar-maker. Next up to keep the high-po exotic ball in play is Tushek Supercars, hailing from Slovenia (that's here), with its quaintly archaically named Forego T700. The company just made an appearance at the Top Marques Monaco with its first car, the 444-horsepower Renovatio T500 (pictured in our gallery below) with a modular hardtop, but the T700 will push things much further.

Founder Aljosa Tushek told Autocar the T700's targets: less than 2,200 pounds, more than 700 horsepower, up to 3.3gs for cornering. That latter number <strike>sounds like a math error</strike> would not only double the Renovatio's number, it would triple the cornering force sustained by the Lamborghini Aventador around the Nardo test track.

The limited-to-30-units Renovatio is priced at £245,000 ($394,934 U.S.) with deliveries promised later this year. Due in 2013, you can expect the T700 to outdo the T500's price by at least double as well, and you can expect both of them to never be sold in the U.S.
Slovenian supercar builder aims to tackle Lamborghini Aventador originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 25 Apr 2012 18:00:00 EST.
You wouldn't expect something called the Roadyacht to weigh as little as 1,030 kilos (2,270 pounds), but that's the curb weight that niche Dutch automaker Savage Rivale is claiming for its new GTR racing model. Couple that with between 700 and 800 horsepower, and what started out as a boulevard cruiser is shaping up as a serious performance machine.

That boulevard cruiser, as you may recall, is the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS, a four-door exotic hardtop convertible, which in roadgoing spec is already pegged to pack 600 horsepower from its Chevrolet Corvette Z06-sourced 7.0-liter V8.

The GTR packs an extra one or two hundred horses (this time from a turbocharged 6.2-liter V8), and while its creators were initially hoping to claim the Nürburgring lap record for four-doors, that the racing model has just two doors - and makes no such claim - leaves us wondering where the plans changed.

The finished product is set to make the mid-April trip from The Hague to Monte Carlo for the Top Marques Monaco show, after which no more than 69 examples will be made available at €141,250 (before taxes, or roughly $185k) - which is significantly less than the €257,000 sticker price originally forecasted for the street version (around $335k). Follow the jump for the brief announcement and full specifications, and scope out the high-res images in the gallery for a closer look.
Continue reading Savage Rivale reveals GTR track-spec Roadyacht

Savage Rivale reveals GTR track-spec Roadyacht originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 16 Feb 2012 11:01:00 EST.
Think of the name Dartz and, if you're up on your whale foreskin-upholstered SUVs, you'll invariably arrive at the Prombron. But while glad to furnish Eastern European mobsters with the machine that makes the Hummer look like a beauty queen, Dartz is keen to break out of the Prombron's mold with sleeker offerings. That's what led to the design of the chopped-down Nagel sedan and, more recently, to the Mojo roadster. Now Dartz has followed up with another design it calls the Jo-MoJo.

As promised, the Jo-Mojo is an electric roadster. Designed, like other Dartz concepts, by Eduard Gray, the Jo-Mojo packs an 80-horsepower electric motor that can be recharged (over who knows how long a timeframe) by a retractable solar panel that encloses the cockpit when parked and acts as the only roof to speak of.

For some inexplicable reason, even though the occupants are exposed to the elements in the open-air cabin, Dartz has also bothered to make the vehicle's body partially bulletproof. Thus, anyone riding shotgun might survive an attack from a rival syndicate, though anyone tall enough to see over the nonexistent windshield likely wouldn't.

Dartz says the roadster is slated to debut at the Top Marques show in Monaco - where else? - but if Monte Carlo isn't on your itinerary, you can check out the video clip and press release after the jump, along with the renderings in the high-res image gallery.
Continue reading Dartz headed to Monaco with Jo-Mojo electric roadster concept [w/video]

Dartz headed to Monaco with Jo-Mojo electric roadster concept [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 07 Dec 2011 10:01:00 EST.
There are a lot of things you could call the Dartz Prombron, but small, economical and svelte certainly aren't among them. The hulking Latvian SUV is about as brutish as they come, and while Dartz has ventured into sleeker territory with the Nagel concept, that's little more than a cut-down Prombron made for towing speedboats. This, however, is something else entirely.

Looking like something you might expect to see in the archives at Bertone or Giugiaro (or on the set of the next Alien vs. Predator movie), the Mojo is a new roadster being developed by Dartz. The shape is both curvaceous and angular (and strange...), with the engine exposed in the back (though no word yet on what engine that is) and two motorbike-style exhaust silencers protruding into the air. A glass canopy can be closed or slid backwards for ingress, egress and open-air motoring. There's even an electric version in the works called Jo-Mojo. Funny names since, unlike some of its other offerings, this Dartz vehicle actually isn't upholstered in foreskin. At least, we assume it isn't.

The Mojo is set to be showcased at the 2012 Top Marques Monaco show at the Grimaldi Forum in Monte Carlo come April, by which time Dartz will presumably offer a little more in the way of technical details. In the meantime you can check out the photos in the gallery for a closer look.
Dartz downsizes to find its Mojo originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 13:00:00 EST.
If you want to pick up a new supercar, there are few better places to do so than at the Top Marques show in Monaco. This year's Monegasque exposition featured a staggering array of exotic machinery packed into close proximity, and for the first time included a closed-off section of the street course used for the Monaco Grand Prix, placed at the disposal of automakers and interested customers for test drives.

Among the debuts this year was the Porsche Cayenne-based Tornado, made by Gemballa as its first new product since the mysterious passing of its namesake founder. Along with the Panamera-based Mistrale, the Tornado was set to be available for test drives around the iconic Rascasse corner by the Monte Carlo marina, but it didn't quite make it there. Not because of a problem in transit or some mechanical issue preventing it from starting or anything like that, but because an unnamed Arabian sheikh snapped it up before anyone else could get their hands on it. A mere 16 seconds after the doors opened, according to show organizers. Think he got good terms on a finance deal?

Follow the jump for the official show recap, including the story of one vehicle that barely made it through the doors of the Grimaldi Forum.

There's a grand tradition to mid-engined hatchbacks that blend exotic layout with utilitarian bodystyle, and as promised, that tradition has now embodied itself in the Fiat 500.

Developed by Lucarelli Monza - a new tuning house eager to make its mark - the Abarth 500 Motore Centrale is a substantial re-engineering of the Italian retro hatch. The engine has been moved - apparently to a glass display case - in the rear, and extensively modified in the process. With a new turbocharger and intercooler, new catalytic converter and pistons, the 1.4-liter turbo four now drives 230 metric horsepower to the rear wheels, aided by an electronic limited-slip differential.

While the front MacPherson struts have been left intact, a new wishbone suspension has been crafted for the rear, joined by upgraded brakes with four-pot calipers all around and some revised bodywork with ducting fitted to help keep the engine cool in its new orientation. Aznom, meanwhile, has been brought on board strictly to outfit the interior with Poltrona Frau leather and Alcantara.

The road-going R230 is quoted for a 4.7-second sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) and a 240 km/h (150 mph) top end. An R280 Pista version is also available with an extra 50 horses and 220 fewer pounds, plus a mechanical diff, full roll cage, adjustable suspension and data recorder, dropping its sprint down to 3.9 seconds and raising its top end up to 260 km/h (160 mph). No word on pricing, but you can bet that getting a budget hatchback to reach those kinds of numbers isn't a cheap proposition.

The Tirrito Ayrton first reared its razor-edged head in 2009, looking like something Predator would drive if he was in the market for a supercar. For this year's Top Marques Monaco, Tirrito has rolled out the Ayrton R , the lighter, more powerful version of Predator's chosen mode of transportation.

Questionable styling aside, the Ayrton R packs a tuned version of the BMW 5.0-liter V10 from the last-generation M5 and M6, which should produce around 630 horsepower. That's a lot by anyone's standards, but in a car that tips the scales at a scant 1,980 pounds, it's downright ridiculous. For those keeping track, that equals 3.3 pounds per pony.

Tirrito hasn't released much in the way of performance figures, but we can only assume they're as gaudy as the Ayrton R's bodywork. For a full gallery of the Tirrito Ayrton R, head over to Autoblog.nl.

We were suitably impressed a couple of years ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show where we stumbled upon the Melkus RS2000. The gullwing sportscar is based on the Lotus Elise and built by a historic East German nameplate revived by the son and grandson of its founder. That same marque has now rolled up at the Top Marques show in Monaco with more powerful variants.

Replacing the Toyota-sourced, 270-horsepower, 1.8-liter four from the Elise on which it's based, the GT and GTS versions of the Melkus RS2000 pack a 2.0-liter turbo four - reportedly sourced from a "well-known German manufacturer" (we're looking at you, Volkswagen) - in 300- and 350-hp guises, respectively. With only 2,145 pounds to schlepp around, the new engine should be good for a 4.5 or 3.9-second 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time, while a new carbon-fiber aero kit helps it look the part.

Ugur Sahin Design has shown off more detailed renderings of its Chevrolet Corvette-based Soleil Anadi supercar ahead of its official unveiling at Top Marques Monaco, which begins today. The Anadi carries on a long line of Italian-bodied sports cars packing American grunt, and finally looks production-ready.

For those who don't recall, the Soleil Anadi started life as the Ugur Sahin Corvette Z03 Concept almost two years ago. Since then, the car has undergone some design changes, and these are the first detailed shots of the car to break cover. In particular, the car's rump has taken a giant leap forward, from a traditional four-taillight arrangement familiar to Corvette fans, to a sleek, gloss-black rear panel concealing the brake lights.

The new renderings also give us a better look at the car's flanks, which have gained a nice curve since the Z03 debuted and hearken back to the Anadi's Corvette roots. Watch for photos of the 2012 Soleil Anadi when they arrive.

If you thought that Italian coachbuilt Corvettes like the Spada Codatronca Monza and the Soleil Anadi would be the only enticing debuts at the upcoming Top Marques Monaco show, think again. Tuning house and carrozzeria Aznom is reportedly preparing to unveil a radical mid-engined Abarth 500 called the Motore Centrale R230.

Teased in the image above, the project (as you might have garnered) moves the engine from in front of the passenger compartment to behind it, mounting the 1.4-liter turbo four - tuned to 230 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque - behind the front seats for a mid-engine, rear-drive configuration closer to the original 500's and better balanced for rip-roarin' performance dynamics.

A new suspension with Bilstein dampers and upgraded brakes are also part of the package, as are semi-slick Kumho tires. A Pista track version is also reportedly in the works, with an extra 50 horses, a full roll-cage, adjustable suspension and a curb weight trimmed down below the 2,000-pound mark. The conversion is undoubtedly a complex one, but if Aznom and partner Lucarelli-Monza can keep the price somewhere near reasonable it should have no trouble offloading the 30 examples targeted for production each year.

Images of the Spada Codatronca Monza boutique sports car have leaked onto the internet ahead of its debut at this year's Top Marques Monaco show. The Codatronca, you'll recall, is a Chevrolet Corvette Z06-engined low-volume supercar cooked up by Ercole Spada. Spada cut his teeth working for Zagato, BMW, and IDEA Institute before starting his own company, Spadaconcept.

The Codatronca is the company's first attempt at a supercar and it uses an aluminum spaceframe and magnesium engine cradle coupled with the aforementioned Corvette engine. To make things just a tad more interesting, Spada adds twin superchargers to the already-potent 427, bringing the horsepower total to a heady 700.

As quoted by AllCarIndex, the Monza will have a scant 2,500-pound curb weight, meaning that Spada's creation ought to hit 60 mph in three seconds flat and top out at nearly 210 mph.

You may remember the Spada Codatronca from a few years back. The controversially-styled (see below for high-res image gallery) coachbuilt Corvette was unveiled in 2008 at the Top Marques show in Monaco, bearing radical bodywork penned by former Zagato designer Ercole Spada and his son Paolo. Now the company is coming back to the exclusive Monte Carlo exposition with a new version.

All we know from the Top Marques Monaco website is that Spada is planning an even more extreme, track-focused version of the Codatronca. Which is no mean feat, since the supercar already packs a twin-supercharged 7.0-liter LS7 V8 with 600 or 700 horsepower, depending on specification. But word has it that the track monster - called "Monza" after the famous Italian racetrack - will also feature an open interpretation of the design, backed up by the fuzzy rendering above circulating the interwebs.

We'll have to sit tight and wait to see what comes of this, but between this and the Soleil Anadi (stay tuned for more on that), this year's Top Marques show is looking good for Italian coachbuilt Corvettes.

Click either image to view the Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS in high resolution

Remember the old days when calling a car a "land yacht" was a bad thing? Well those days are far behind us, with Audi sport-utilities and Rolls-Royce convertibles alike now purposely taking their cues from the water-bound. This just might top it, though. It's called the Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS. (We didn't make that up. We couldn't have). It's the plan of a couple of Dutch students, Emile Pop and Justin de Boer, to separate the obscenely wealthy from their money.

The concept is something of a cross between a Pagani Zonda Roadster, the Lamborghini Estoque concept and a Bentley Continental GTC. Only crazier. It's a four-door, four-seat hardtop convertible with a custom spaceframe chassis overlaid with carbon fiber. Power is provided by a Corvette LS7 engine, supercharged to deliver 600 horsepower and driving the rear wheels through a GM-sourced automatic. Koni shocks and custom air suspension are at each corner, with eight-piston calipers gripping 380mm discs up front and four-piston/355mm brakes at the back. Unique suicide, scissor doors are operated via a custom wristwatch or touchscreen to give access to a compartmentalized, nautical-themed and luxuriously-appointed cabin from which the engine can be seen. If all of this sounds incredibly expensive, it is: they'll be asking €257,000 apiece (approximately $340k), with the first example, currently under production, to debut at the chi-chi Top Marques show in Monaco this April. By then, their prospective clients may have recuperated some of their cash, but the car's name likely won't have gotten any shorter.

Gallery: Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS

[Source: Autogespot and diseno-art]
Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS to headline Top Marques Monaco originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 15 Jan 2009 07:59:00 EST. The Spada Codatronca is slated for production, with 20 examples due to be built in the near future and priced somewhere north of £200,000. As reported previously, the Dark Knight's weekend driver is packing a supercharged LS7 V8, producing 600 hp in "entry-level" TS guise and can be upgraded to a track-ready version producing 700 hp and dropping 0-60 times to a mind-boggling 2.7 seconds. Unfortunately, we've yet to see any photos of the "production" version that was unveiled at the Top Marques show this past weekend, so we'll just have to wait and see if the sinister sled makes a successful transition from concept to production.

Gallery: SpadaConcept Codatronca

[Source: Top Gear]
Unreal: Spada Codatronca headed for production originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 14:02:00 EST. (Surely it's not a coincidence that the two ex-McLaren engineers chose orange - the color ofMcLaren's historic team cars - for the first T1.) (That's got to be the most seriously unfortunatetitle ever.) We expect to see live shots of the car sometime this Thursday, April 20th. Here are some additional picsof the car provided by Caparo ahead of the debut and a recap of what makes the car so special.
