Live vicariously through Jessi and Patrick as you watch The List #0555: Drive a Monster Truck. Not only will you learn what it's really like to drive a 1,600-horsepower pickup on 66-inch, hand-cut agricultural tires, but you'll also discover what happens when you break someone's really big, really expensive toy (hint: monster trucks aren't supposed to land like the one in the image above).

Plus, in this episode, we say goodbye to our faithful red BMW 3 Series that served us well in so many episodes. In fact, the entire roster of Monster Jam trucks and drivers helps us say goodbye in the most smashing of ways. Scroll down to watch!

Special thanks to Jimmy Creten and his team for letting us behind the wheel of their amazing truck, Bounty Hunter, as well as the entire Monster Jam organization for being so friendly and accommodating.

Would you know what to do if your car crashed into the sea and began to sink? For every foot you descend towards Davey Jones' Locker, 850 pounds of pressure are being exerted on your car door, making the simple act of opening it and exiting an impossibility at the worst possible time.

For this episode of The List, we've brought our hosts, Jessi and Patrick, to the experts at Amphibious Medics to learn the various techniques for escaping a car underwater. That's right, there's more than one school of thought on the best course of action in these situations, and we're going to try them all. While our hosts express their preference for which technique worked best for them, we're no experts and encourage you to do your own research.

Of course, we set up a completely controlled situation wherein we could ensure the safety of Jessi and Patrick, so don't try this at home with your winter beater and a local pond. We found a location perfectly suited for dunking cars, hired some trained medics and divers to watch their backs, and enlisted the services of the show's trusty BMW 3 Series (see its other starring roles in Work as a Professional Stunt Driver and Buy a Used Car Online) to play the part of the hapless sinking auto.

Will this knowledge ever come in handy? About 400 people die from vehicle-related drownings in the United States each year, so the odds are ever in your favor on this one. But if you ever do find yourself slowly sinking underwater in your car, you'll be glad you scrolled down to watch.

A person's portfolio of automotive experiences should contain more than just family vehicles and the occasional sports car. That's why our list of 1,001 Automotive Things To Do Before You Die includes driving all sorts of different vehicles. So far we've driven drift vehicles, off-roaders and even tanks, and there are many more interesting conveyances we still want to sample.

One that's been on our list since the show's beginning is driving a big rig truck. We all pass these beasts of burden on the highway and probably don't give them a second thought, except maybe to question why one is blocking our way on the one day we're late for work.

Still, these many-wheeled machines account for the bulk of shipping that occurs in the US, and there's an army of highly trained drivers who pilot the nation's fleet. You can't just step out of your Ford Explorer and into the driver's seat of a big rig; you need schoolin' first.

We sent Jessi and Patrick to Southern California's Dootson School of Trucking, and because we had high hopes our two pupils could be taught to drive a big rig on public roads, before school started they were required to pass a Commercial Drivers License written permit test, as well as receive a physical and drug test as ordered by the Department of Transportation. With that out of the way, their lesson could begin. Scroll down to watch some of what it takes to become a real big rig driver.

Jessi's going solo this week as we check off another oft-requested item from our list of 1,001 Car Things To Do Before You Die. The task this time is to compete in a demolition derby, so Ms. Combs took herself to one of Southern California's county fairs where this time-honored tradition is still a celebrated motorsport.

With a car supplied by derby veteran Stan "Mac" McDonald, Jessi was able to enter the field of 14 rust buckets, clunkers and mangled machines competing that night. The battle field was a 7,500-square-foot patch of earth in the center of an arena that was bordered on all sides by dirt mounds. Her strategy? Put it in Reverse and mash the throttle. As it turns out, competing in the derby is a lot different than watching from the stands, and Jessi's night wouldn't go as she expected. Scroll down to watch what happened.

The List is back! The show took a hiatus after its first season, partly to give our hosts a much-needed break, and partly to gear up for its television debut on Speed - check out tonight's new episode at 10:30PM EST/PST. But Jessi and Patrick have finally returned to Autoblog, and they're back with a slate of new episodes that begins with this epic adventure that should definitely be on your list of 1,001 Car Things To Do Before You Die.

We've asked Jessi and Patrick to do some crazy, even dangerous, things during the course of producing this show (racing in the Baja 1000 comes to mind), but never before have they returned from an assignment a little surprised that they made it back.

Indeed, the Arctic Circle is a big, desolate and dangerous place to go for a drive, but it's also beautiful, challenging and rewarding in a way that few other road trips can be. Thanks to an invitation by Mercedes-Benz and the company's support crew, Jessi and Patrick teamed up with Autoblog executive editor Chris Paukert to attempt to drive a diesel Sprinter van to the Arctic Circle in the dead of winter for this mission. They returned with all of their fingers and toes intact to tell you the story, but did they make all the way there? You'll have to watch it below to find out.

As we announced last week, The List will be making its national television debut on Speed tonight at 10:30 PM EST/PST!

Make sure you're in front of the flat screen or have your DVR set to record our little program's big night. Jessi and Patrick are already working on new episodes for the second season, but we can't wait to see their adventures from the first season reimagined for the small screen.

Don't forget that our sister show, Translogic is also makings its premiere on Speed tonight at 10:00 PM EST/PST. The two shows will then appear on Speed with new episodes every Tuesday night at 10:00 and 10:30 PM EST/PST going forward.

Many thanks need to be shared with the people at AOL and Speed who helped make this partnership a reality, as well as with you, the readers of Autoblog who've become viewers of The List and Translogic this past year as we've worked to bring you the best original video series possible. Thanks again, and enjoy the show!
Autoblog's The List premieres on Speed tonight! originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 15:30:00 EST.
Throughout the course of the year, we've had Jessi and Patrick check off some big items on our list of 1,001 Car Things To Do Before You Die - things like lap the Nürbugring, drive over 200 miles per hour and race in the Baja 1000. But one item has been conspicuously absent: conquering the Rubicon Trail.

The ultimate test for off-roaders, the Rubicon Trail is a storied path over terrain that's practically inaccessible by 99.99 percent of production vehicles. Jeep, however, prides itself on selling products designed to traverse this granddaddy of off-road trails, and there are none so capable in its showroom as the Wrangler.

Jeep was kind enough to lend us a shiny, new Wrangler for this challenge, knowing full well it would not be returned unmolested, and to aid our intrepid hosts in their quest, we paired them with organizers of the famed Jeepers Jamboree, who were headed deep into Rubcon Springs for their annual bash. Unfortunately, the weekend turned somber with a reminder of just how dangerous off-roading can be, which in turn made Jessi and Patrick's exit from this adventure more dramatic than they had planned.

Watch Jessi and Patrick tackle the Rubicon Trail below, and if you've got an idea for The List, submit it by clicking the "Your List" link below.

Any trip to the automotive mecca of Germany would not be complete without a visit to the famed Nürburgring, nor would a list called 1,001 Automotive Things To Do Before You Die. Thus, we've reached the whole point of Jessi and Patrick's trip to Germany: Drive the Nürburgring.

Many prior episodes of The List have prepared J and P for what's required of them to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife successfully without shunting the BMW M3 they picked up earlier, but we felt they needed a little more schooling. After having them read up on The Green Hell and memorize its corners in simulators, the final instruction came from the Queen of the 'Ring herself, Sabine Schmitz, who was gracious enough to give our hosts a tour of the track. Unfortunately, the M3 couldn't hold up to a single lap's worth of Sabine's driving skills, but don't fault the car: The Nürburgring has 73 turns, is 12.8-miles long and changes nearly 1,000 feet in elevation.

Watch Jessi and Patrick conclude their Germany trip below by lapping the Nürburgring. If you've got your idea for The List, submit it by clicking the Your List link below.

We told you last time that Jessi and Patrick still had some items to check off The List after picking up a car from BMW via European delivery. They had to make their way from BMW's headquarters in Munich to a certain race track, and when in Germany, there's only one road that's worth taking to get where you're going: the Autobahn.

Our intrepid hosts have already achieved the feat of driving 200 miles per hour, but in this latest of The List, they're looking to challenge that number on Germany's most famous public road. To do it they needed the help of Alpina and its incredible B7 sedan. Large, powerful and stable, the B7 is our hosts' best chance to tame the Autobahn.

Watch the latest episode of The List below, and stay tuned in the coming weeks for the last episode from our trip to Germany that you won't want to miss.

Let's face it, the dealership experience when buying a new car is not very special. But when you're handing over serious stacks of cash for a car that you've dreamed of owning, the occasion calls for something more than a free car wash before you drive off the lot. That's where something like the European Delivery program offered by BMW comes in. Instead of picking up your new M3 at the local dealer, BMW builds it in Munich and has it waiting for you to come get it. And while you're there, why not tour the factory where your car was built, visit the BMW Museum and world headquarters, and then go off on your own and explore what Germany has to offer a new BMW owner. And did we mention you actually save money by taking possession of your BMW this way?

Taking an international pilgrimage to pick up your new car is an experience that easily makes The List, so we sent Jessi and Patrick to Germany to walk us through what it's like for a new owner who goes this route, including the special treatment and various places one gets to go during the visit to BMW's campus in Munich.

The experience also afforded Jessi and Patrick the opportunity to complete a couple of other items on The List that could only be done in Germany. Can you guess which two they chose? What would be on your German edition of The List? If you haven't already guessed, you'll find out when we publish the next two episodes in the coming weeks.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is billed as the largest one-day automotive event in the world. Around 1.5 million people show up on a Saturday each August and line both sides of a seven-mile stretch of historic Woodward Avenue in the outskirts of Detroit. They come to watch some 40,000+ classic, custom and muscle cars cruise all eight lanes of road at little more than idling speed. Begun only in 1995, the Cruise feels like it's been happening since the golden era of Detroit that it honors. For Detroiters, it's become a way of life. For everyone else, it's high up on the list of 1,001 Car Things To Do Before You Die.

We sent Jessi Combs to the D during Woodward week to experience the event for herself and report back for The List. As we suspected, she encountered all types of native Detroiters who love the Woodward Dream Cruise, as well as some anti-Cruisers who don't share that sentiment. Sans Patrick for this episode, Jessi met up with Autoblog/AOL Auto's own Scott Burgess, who was participating in the Cruise in his own 1964 Chevy Corvair Convertible.

Working as a professional stunt driver is one of the most popular requests we get for The List. Making it happen, however, has proven to be a challenge. It isn't as simple as crashing a Hollywood set and sticking our hosts, Jessi and Patrick, behind the wheel of a car meant for Keanu's character. Not only would that require access we don't have (not for lack of trying), but the movie studios wouldn't let us film their set or show you the scene's final cut.

In order to check this item off our list and show you the results, we needed to get creative. We decided to go into the movie-making business and produce a short film that would give Jessi and Patrick an opportunity to apply the skills they've learned so far on The List. Trading in our blogging bylines for producer credits also lets us show you how a Hollywood movie set works when there are cars, cameras, helicopters and stunts involved. Spoiler Alert: It's a little dangerous, a lotta crazy and can get very expensive.

There are two videos below for you to watch. The first is the actual episode of The List that shows what it took to produce a short film and check working as a professional stunt driver off our list. The second video is the final product, our short film called The Driver. And while, yes, we do plan on keeping our day jobs, our caps must nonetheless be doffed to the show's producer and director, Graham Suorsa, who somehow managed to pull all of this off.

To let a car do what it wants is very different than making it do what you want. It's the difference between a car's rear end getting loose in a corner and the intentional act of drifting. There's a huge chasm of skill that lies between the two, though the end result might look the same sometimes.

A few of us on the Autoblog team know a thing or two about drifting, particularly that it's not as easy as it looks. To control that moment of chaos the way professional drifters do takes incredibly precise inputs (from both your hands and feet), the right equipment and many hours of practice. You can't just hop in a high-powered rear-wheel-drive car and go for it, but that's exactly what we asked Jessi and Patrick to do for this episode of The List.

They won't be alone. We've asked professional drifter Conrad Gruenwald to give them some instruction. How much can they learn in less than a day? Scroll down to find out.

Photographing cars is near and dear to our hearts at Autoblog. We're proud of the images we publish in our reviews because we take nearly all of them ourselves rather than hiring photographers to do the work for us, and the man who sets the bar for our team is Director of Photography, Drew Phillips. He's Autoblog's own in-house professional photographer, and he's taught each one of us the tricks of his trade.

Many viewers of The List have told us that they also aspire to photograph their car like a pro, and while it's a tall order to teach you everything the pros know in a ten-minute video, there are many tips and tricks we can share that should get you most of the way there.

Enter Jessi and Patrick, who are going to go through a mini bootcamp for aspiring automotive photographers in today's episode of The List. First thing's first, though: They have to detail the car, so Joe Fernandez from Superior Shine Mobile Auto Detailing was called in to teach Jessi and Patrick the basics of professional auto detailing.

Buying a used car online has become a new rite of passage in the Internet Age. eBay Motors, Craiglist and a myriad of other online auto shopping sites facilitate the ritual, and the need for a new set of wheels is all the motivation that's required.

We found ourselves with just such a need, having planned an upcoming episode of The List that requires a car we can beat on with abandon. This created the perfect opportunity to send Jessi and Patrick out into the digital realm of used car sales, which led them directly into the real world of used car salesmen and private owners parting with their pride and joy.

Building your own car is another activity that viewers often request we cover on The List. Assembling a kit car or doing a ground-up restoration of a relic barn find seemed like obvious choices, but weren't very practical. So we donned our thinking caps and came up with a cool alternative to the normal concept of building your own car: assembling your own Local Motors Rally Fighter at the company's micro factory near Phoenix, Arizona.

Building your own Rally Fighter is part of the purchase price when you order one of these crowd-sourced off-road coupes from Local Motors. For $74,900 you get the vehicle along with the experience of helping them build it, as well as your accommodations and meals.

We've driven the Rally Fighter before, but haven't taken you behind the scenes like this to see what the process of buying one is like and how they're built. Jessi and Patrick are going to do that for us, so hit Play to see what this updated notion of building your own car is really like.

It's one thing to protect yourself on the road against bad drivers who might cut you off or ride your bumper on the highway. It's quite another to do that when those drivers have guns and want to kidnap the diplomat in your back seat. While the latter scenario may sound unlikely, many drivers in law enforcement, security and the military go through training to prevent the success of just such an attack-on-wheels.

Learning how people in the protection business escape an automotive attack is on our list of 1,001 Car Things To Do Before You Die, which means it's on Jessi and Patrick's list too. We sent them to the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving to enroll in its four-day Executive Protection/Anti-Kidnapping program. Their course instruction includes valuable skills like what to do when your driver's been shot, the proper way to do a J-turn and how to perform a textbook PIT maneuver, among other things.

Even if your life isn't in jeopardy from a phalanx of baddies in hot pursuit, the end game here is a finer understanding of using automotive physics to one's advantage and improving one's car control skills.

We keep track of every idea that you submit for The List. Of the hundreds we get after each episode airs, one is without question at the top of everyone's list: drive 200 miles per hour.

Despite the first production car eclipsing 200 mph back in the mid-'80s, we thankfully aren't yet jaded by the feat. Unlike back then, however, more than a handful of today's cars can beat two bills if given enough runway.

That's exactly where Jessi and Patrick found themselves on the day we asked them to do the deed: the runways of the Mojave Air & Space Port near Mojave, CA. Eagle-eyed Autoblog readers will remember that this is one of the locations used by World Class Driving to conduct their 200MPH Challenge Experience. We should know; we've gone after the elusive two hundred twice now, falling short the first time but succeeding the second at this very location (check out the gallery from that experience below).

We enrolled Jessi and Patrick for a day's worth of double-hundy attempts in vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and new Ferrari 458 Italia. Each took their own shot at 200-mph glory, and one even discovered that reaching 200 mph is the easy part.
When you think of major car auctions, you probably think of Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. That's the one that came to mind for us, which is why we sent Jessi and Patrick to experience its sights and sounds this past January.

Not only did they come away with what it's like to be inside the big tents of Barrett-Jackson on the company's biggest day of the year, they also followed the experiences of several sellers, all of whom were counting on six- and seven-figure prices for their precious pieces of metal. Did they leave the Grand Canyon State with smiles on their faces? Scroll down and watch the latest episode of The List to find out.

Despite the unusually warm winter we're having this year, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have Jessi and Patrick check ice racing off The List. So we sent them to New York to meet our good friend and ice-racing expert, Engadget.com editor-in-chief Tim Stevens, for an inside look at this very special and frigid sport. Thanks to the courtesy of the Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club, they were able to get in and complete their objective before the warm temperatures returned the track back into a lake.

As Tim explains in the episode, the great thing about ice racing is the amount of time you actually spend racing. And with two classes that cover both stock and modified vehicles, anyone can race with whatever they've got in their garage. But as Jessi and Patrick learn, racing on ice is easier said than done.
