There's something magical about 200 mph. The double century has become a benchmark for modern supercars, although it takes just as much courage as pavement to do the deed. As we found out at World Class Driving earlier this year, sometimes that isn't even enough. Techart, the well-known German Porsche tuner, recently headed to the Nardo test track in Italy to see if they could break the 200 mph mark in one of its more unlikely speed demons: a Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

Obviously, an SUV isn't exactly the ideal vehicle to reach terminal velocity, but it seems to be a popular trend lately. Just last week we told you about the Brabus GLK V12 that reached 200.3 mph at Nardo thanks to its 750 horsepower twin-turbo V12. The Techart Cayenne Turbo with just 680 horsepower wasn't quite as fast -- 321.2 km/h or 199.5 mph, but seriously impressive nonetheless. Techart is still declaring a world record, though, claiming the title of the planet's fastest "full size" SUV. Trivial? Yes. Pointless? Undoubtedly. But wealthy soccer moms that rejoicing during their daily commute on the autobahn. Learn more about the Techart Cayenne Turbo and its record-breaking top speed run after the jump.

TechArt Porsche 911 Carrera 4S - Click above for high-res image gallery

In certain circles, the 911 4S is considered the Porsche to get. You got your high-output S motor, the security of all the wheels being driven, a curvaceous (if not swollen) rear end, all the luxuries of home (especially if you tick off "leather air vents" on the options list) but without the crippling price of the Turbo or punishing ride/packaging of the GT3. Obviously, lots of folks feel differently, but if you're going to go down the 4S road, you might want to stop off and pay a visit to TechArt.

The "why" is that using some absolutely gorgeous piping, TechArt has found a way to squeeze 35 more horseponies out of the Carrera 4S's 3.8-liter flat-six, raising the total from 385 to 420. Which is as much power as the original 996 Turbo made. Which, we need not remind you, passed for a supercar just a few short years ago. And the 997 iteration of the 4S weighs about one hundred pounds less than the old Turbo.

But you can't just give the people more power and call it a day. With that maxim in mind, TechArt has gone ahead and crafted up a nice body kit for its 4S. There's a little lip spoiler, some twisted sills and a tastefully done spoiler. Actually, that spoiler does more than just look good - it's got a Gurney flap! That means it's adjustable. TechArt also fussed around with the suspension, crafted some forged light-alloy wheels and even gave the interior a once over, adding better leather and aluminum pedals. You can find all of the details in the press release after the jump. But before than doing that, may we suggest you just trip out on this for a while?

For each of its model lines, Porsche offers a wide variety of model variants and plenty of options straight from the factory. But that's only the starting point, with a whole slew of aftermarket tuners offering a range of customization options for owners of Stuttgart's finest. TechArt has long remained at the forefront, and has now launched a new set of modification kits for the latest Boxster and Cayman.

Although TechArt hasn't touched the engine this time around, the aftermarket kits offer a host of visual, aerodynamic and chassis modifications for the entry-level models. The Aerokit I includes a new front spoiler, side sills, rear spoiler and diffuser, with round exhaust tips available in different finishes. The Aerokit II, meanwhile, upgrades with an Audi-style daytime running lamp (DRL) kit, while the TechArt's Vario suspension drops the ride height by 30 mm, mounted to 19- and 20-inch wheels. There are also a whole mess of extra bits to spruce up the interior, all of which you can read about in detail in the press release after the jump and view in the high-res image gallery below.

Gallery: TechArt Porsche Cayman and Boxster

[Source: TechArt]
Continue reading TechArt offers visual upgrades for Porsche Boxster and Cayman

TechArt offers visual upgrades for Porsche Boxster and Cayman originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 17:28:00 EST.

If you want a powerful, fast Porsche Cayenne, Stuttgart has no shortage of choices on offer, topping out with the mental 550 horsepower Turbo S. Of course, there are plenty of aftermarket tuners willing to take the unreasonable up to downright silly proportions, but if you were looking for power and speed without sacrificing too much fuel, for the most part you were advised to look elsewhere. After all, a big SUV isn't exactly the ideal platform for either. But then along comes Porsche tuner extraordinaire Techart to show you the way with its own custom Porsche Cayenne Diesel.

Boosting output from 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque to a hefty 290 hp and 465 lb-ft, the Techart Cayenne Diesel drops the stock 0-60 time of 8.3 seconds down to a handy 7.7 seconds, all without harming the vehicle's fuel economy or emissions numbers. Nice work, but the most impressive part is the modified torque curve that gives the big oil-burner accessible grunt from as low as 1,000 rpm.

Techart has also crafted a unique Aerokit 1 for the diesel sport-ute, giving it a more aggressive stance while improving airflow, capped with giant 21-inch alloys or optional 22s.
Techart has worked its magic, yet again, on the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo, boosting output of the twin-turbo'd flat-six to 660 hp and 634 lb.-ft. of torque. The Techart GTstreet R benefits from a duo of new turbos, larger carbon fiber inlet pipes, revised intercoolers and a new cat-back exhaust mated to the revised manifold which all help to drop the 997's 0-60 time to 3.4 seconds when equipped with an auto 'box and 3.5 seconds with a manual. Top speed is a claimed 214 mph.

Keeping the Techart-modified 911 planted at speed is a new coil-over kit and 20-inch wheels that work in conjunction with a wind-tunnel-tested body kit and carbon fiber spoiler to add another 22 pounds of down force. If those specs aren't enough to make it stand out, Techart also offers a new hood, carbon fiber headlights, side sills and air ducting for the rear bumper.

Make the jump for all the details and check the gallery below for your next desktop.

Gallery: Techart GTstreet R

Continue reading Ass-engined slot-car of the Gods: Techart GTstreet R

Ass-engined slot-car of the Gods: Techart GTstreet R originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 19:28:00 EST. And it's not enough. Not for TechArt, at least. You know TechArt. They take Porsches that already push the limits of performance and go all Chuck Yeager on them, probing for new and more crazy limits. Generally they find them, then they package them up and offer them to the moneyed public. Case in point: the new GT Street RS. What begins as a "normal" GT2 turns into a 700-horsepower, 634 lb-ft (860 Nm) warp-enabled street predator when the TechArt people are through messing with it.

The myriad changes include new bodywork that improves the car's aerodynamics, updated chassis components, a customized and caged interior, and a laundry list of underhood modifications. The turbos, intercoolers, headers, electronics, pressure sensor, air filter and exhaust system all get updated by TechArt, facilitating the transformation from factory supercar to ballistic missile with wheels. Now, where'd we leave those launch codes...

Gallery: TechArt GT Street RS

[Source: TechArt]
TechArt GT Street RS, because the Porsche GT2 isn't mean enough originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 23 Jul 2008 16:04:00 EST. Who wants to climb into a GAZ-24, however appealing it might be to obscure-car guys, when you could sink into the all-enveloping sumptuousness of a Maybach 62? Need to get to Gorky Park quickly? A Porsche Cayenne outfitted with a meter and checkerboard detailing awaits at the curb. It's not just a fancied-up VW, still carrying the VR6 behind the Porsche crest, either. No, this Cayenne is a TechArt Magnum, packing enough horsepower to light Long Island. Shaking that covey of shifty-eyed men in the shiny black Zil won't be a problem. It's not known if the fare is commensurate with the price of the vehicle, however.

[Source: englishrussia.com]
Russian aristocrats travel in luxury cabs originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 06 Apr 2008 15:31:00 EST. Well, you dial up TechArt, which has just pulled the wraps off a cabrio version of the menacing Turbo-based GT Street. The ragtop, like the coupe, makes a ridiculous 630 horsepower, and while TechArt hasn't officially announced the torque figure, we're assuming it's also upwards of 600 lb-ft. So, if you're in a rush, there's no need to reach for that blow dryer. Just head out to the car, put the roof down, aim it where you want to go, and punch it. Your hair should be bone-dry by the time you hit the quarter mile mark or so. If it isn't, just keep pushing -- it'll finally top out at 214 mph. Your 'do might look like this if you hit maximum warp, though, so use your judgment when applying pressure to the loud pedal. We'll have full specs on the GT Street Cabrio when TechArt formally introduces it in Geneva. Until then, you can see the coupe's numbers here.

Gallery: TechArt GT Street Cabriolet

[Source: TechArt]
Geneva '08 Preview: TechArt GT Street Cabriolet originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 22 Feb 2008 10:57:00 EST. The supertuner/niche manufacturer has readied its latest creation for debut at the upcoming Essen Motor Show (think SEMA for European manufacturers). The TechArt Turbo Cabriolet follows the usual formula, offering incremental power upgrades culminating with a ridiculous 630 hp/604 lb-ft. This, while retaining the Turbo's AWD system and offering the added benefit of topless motoring. 911 GT2? What's that?

The added juice comes from new turbos, extensively upgraded intake and exhaust plumbing, and new engine management programming that ties it all together. TechArt also doctors the chassis, allowing the car to be lowered an additional 25mm via the factory PASM setup. Buyers can choose between two aero packages and the usual assortment of wheel/tire/interior upgrades, resulting in a bespoke convertible sports car with a top speed of 214 mph. Montgomery Scott not included.

PR pasted after the jump.

[Source: TechArt]

Gallery: TechArt Turbo Cabriolet

Continue reading More power, less roof: TechArt Turbo Cabriolet

More power, less roof: TechArt Turbo Cabriolet originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 19 Nov 2007 14:33:00 EST. If you have a Cayenne Turbo, TechArt can make the power thing happen for you as well (with or without the aero kit, presumably). They're also more than happy to trick out your interior and modify your Cayenne's active suspension (on trucks so equipped) to drop the lowest ride height an additional 30 mm. It's all business as usual at TechArt, where the only real constraint is the size of your child's college fund.

[Source: Techart]

Gallery: Techart SUV kit for 2008 Porsche Cayenne

Continue reading TechArt offers up aero kit for '08 Porsche Cayenne

TechArt offers up aero kit for '08 Porsche Cayenne originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 20 Sep 2007 08:37:00 EST. The revised Porsche Cayenne has been on sale for a while now, and Porsche supertuner TechArt has readied the next-generation Magnum for an official debut at the Frankfurt show in September. The edgier look of the new Cayenne has given way to a Magnum that's just as aggressive as the outgoing one, but is better-looking in a very angry sort of way. This Magnum looks like it wants to punch you right in the kisser and take your lunch money. Possibly your dignity, as well. The muscled-up bodywork is further accented by swanky Techart wheels and formidable quad exhaust outlets.

Inside the cabin, enough leather is stretched over the seating and trim surfaces to make PETA members suffer immediate nervous breakdowns. We also like the snazzy brown carbon fiber trim used in lieu of wood in the photo car. Techart is working on a suite of engine mods for the Cayenne Turbo's mill that will pump it up to 620 horsepower, and their suspension modification allows for a lower-than-standard ride height for normal driving. (The adjustable suspension's peak off-road height is still maintained.) Price? None given, and if you need to ask, you're probably out of your league anyway. The verdict? Badass -- very much so.

[Source: Techart]

Gallery: 2008 Techart Magnum

Continue reading New Porsche Cayenne begets new TechArt Magnum

New Porsche Cayenne begets new TechArt Magnum originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 30 Jul 2007 14:02:00 EST. The good stuff all remains exactly as originally reported in the runup to the Geneva Motor Show. Tucked into the car's rump is a modified 3.6L twin-turbocharged flat six dishing out a reasonably healthy 630 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque. That's more equine propulsion than the mighty Carrera GT, and as you can see above, you can get it in green. We dig the matching stripes on the wheel rims, too. In fact, based on everything we've seen so far, there's really not a whole lot not to like about the GTstreet. 60 mph arrives in a scant 3.2 seconds, and when equipped with the full aero kit shown, the top speed is a manufacturer-claimed 214 mph. Very impressive, to say the least.

Updated photos have been added to the attached gallery.

[Source: TechArt]

Gallery: Techart GTstreet

TechArt releases new shots of the GTstreet originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 02 Jul 2007 13:28:00 EST.
The scandal! German tuner shop TechArt might have thought it was Christmas when it unwrapped three prototype Porsche engines. Final Gear reports that two conventional engines and one "engine of the future" missing from Porsche's development center have been found in the custom car builder's garage, much to Porsche's irritation. TechArt maintains its innocence, stating that employees bought the engines in good conscience and thought they were getting conventional 997 engines. We don't know much more than that, but it appears so far that Porsche is taking the tuner to court for theft, and that two Porsche employees, and two customers, are in the slammer.

The wife of the man killed yesterday died from her injuries today in the Skopje Clinic Center. Read the update here.

This year's edition of The Gumball 3000 is no more, after a hit-and-run accident in Macedonia left a man dead and his wife in the hospital in critical condition. Nick Morley (who was driving) and Matthew McConville, in a Techart 911 Turbo, crossed the center line and crashed into a Macedonian couple in a VW Golf. The 67-year-old man died of a supposed heart attack according to a Gumball press release. His wife remains there with serious injuries.

There's an expression that goes "It's not the crime, it's the cover up" that gets you. In this case it was both. As if the "hit" weren't bad enough, it was followed by "and run" when Nick and Matthew tried to flee on foot. They were picked up by a Gumballer in a BMW with Russian plates and made it as far as the Macedonia-Albania border, where they were arrested. The driver of the BMW was held briefly then released. Nick has been arrested and placed under 30-day temporary detention in Macedonia, charged with "heavy violation of traffic safety" and "failure to help an injured person." Then Gumball HQ flubbed the crisis management. Apparently they didn't put out a release for at least 24 hours and wouldn't answer questions about the accident in the Gumball forum. When they finally did issue a statement, it said the driver died of a heart attack on the way to the hospital (brought on by. . .?) and that the drivers immediately reported the accident.

Perhaps Germany and Turkey are now glad they prevented this year's Gumball from passing through. As far as Europe goes, next year's Gumball will probably be lucky if it's allowed to do laps in a parking lot. However, it probably will go on; when that much much money is involved, a way will be found -- but don't look for it on the Continent. Whether it's more grunt underhood, a racier look, a more sporting ride, or an interior redesigned to taste, TechArt can do it, and the resulting vehicle is usually an exercise in power merged with panache. Their latest grin-generator -- the new, 997-based GTstreet -- is a perfect example. Another TechArt staple is the 600+ horsepower Cayenne-based Magnum, whose extreme styling is no doubt polarizing, but far more interesting than that of the base Cayenne Turbo.

The Magnum is the canvas used to showcase TechArt's classy new "de Sede of Switzerland" interior, which is named for the eponymous luxury furniture manufacturer. Instead of emphasizing sport with a racy cabin loaded with alcantara, aluminum, and carbon fiber (materials that TechArt will gladly adorn your machine with, if you so desire), the de Sede-enhanced Magnum is a case study in opulence.

The interior features de Sede leather (it comes only from German and Swiss cows) on the seats, doors, dash and headliner. The seats themselves are specially padded for maximum comfort, and the rest of the car is loaded with amenities, as you might expect. Microsuede-lined storage bins, a refrigerated cooler in the back seat, the requisite hi-fi A/V system with heatreast-mounted seats, PS2 console, and wireless headphones are among the highlights. If you're not in Geneva to see it in person, you can check out four shots of the inviting-looking cabin are in the attached gallery. TechArt doesn't include pricing, but you know the saying: If you have to ask...

[Source: TechArt]

Gallery: TechArt Magnum w/ de Sede interior

Continue reading Geneva Motor Show: TechArt Magnum "de Sede" ups the interior ante

Geneva Motor Show: TechArt Magnum "de Sede" ups the interior ante originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 06 Mar 2007 15:06:00 EST. TechArt, known for its comprehensive revamps, is no exception. As we recently showed you, it's been hard at work on a follow-up to the rather awesome 996-based 2001 TechArt GTstreet.

Enter the 997-based GTstreet, one of TechArt's two Geneva debuts (more on the second one later). With a Carrera GT-topping 630 horses and an equally-amazing 600+ lb-ft of torque, the 0-60 claim of 3.2 seconds sounds quite reasonable, if not conservative. Like Porsche's factory supercar, its top end is well over 200 mph. In fact, TechArt claims the car's top speed is 214 mph with its power upgrades and new aero body kit. Official photographs have been posted to go along with the previous sketch we showed you, and we hope to have some live shots posted in a few hours as well. TechArt has produced a power kit for the cars that adds 15 horsepower and increased throttle response regardless of whether you're driving a 3.6L Carrera 4 or the 3.8L C4S.

Naturally, they encourage you to also take the opportunity to complememt the power kit with one of their stainless exhaust systems and suspension upgrades. And since you're going through the trouble to dial in the handling and give your C4 a little extra punch, you may as well take it the rest of the way and add the visual juice you only get with TechArt's aero mods. Those include a choice of front end treatments, side skirts, fixed rear spoiler, a restyled rear bumper, and their signature Formula wheels. That hasn't stopped TechArt from releasing its decidedly un-subtle Widebody based on the Cayman S. The add-on fenders add 8cm of width to the car, while also improving evacuation of heated air. Because of their ventilation function, the trailing edge of the front flares stand proud of the actual fender, creating a gap. It looks cool and racy in that "obvious bodykit" sorta way. The wider shoulders definitely make the car look more imposing, and while not subtle, the new body panels are for the most part tasteful and not over-the-top.

One thing's for certain, the new nose improves downforce and brake cooling, which is a good thing because TechArt offers two different engine upgrades. The first engine upgrade bumps output by 15 hp via bolt-ons and software revisions. The second option is a comprehensive rework of the flat-6 including new pistons, camshafts, manifolds and management software, all together delivering a displacement increase to 3.8 liters and an output of 385 horsepower and 407 Nm of torque. Out back, the angle from which most people will see this Cayman, there's a choice between the outrageous wing seen here, or a more subtle spoiler. There's also a revised lower fascia and diffuser, rounding out the package. Chassis upgrades are also available for cars with Porsche Active Stability Management and non-PASM models. The suspension improvements include 20-inch rims, and a height adjustable coil-over system that drops ride height by 2.5 inches. For the PASM, there's variable damping adjusted by a cockpit button - pretty slick.

Speaking of the interior, that's of course upgradeable as well, from mild changes to a full-on refit. Not that there was anything wrong with the Cayman, but the TechArt widebody manages to separate you, and your money, from the standard Porscheophile pack.

(more pictures after the jump)

[Source: babez.de]
Continue reading Wide Load: Techart Widebody Cayman S

Wide Load: Techart Widebody Cayman S originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 30 Nov 2006 18:31:00 EST. Well, the other shoe has now dropped, and TechArt now has the engine dishing out muscle to match the the car's good looks. For a rundown on the body and suspension mods, read our first post or check out the press release after the jump.

When the car makes its official debut at next month's Essen Motor Show, TechArt's tuning package will have the car's 3.6L boxer engine pumping forth 580 horses, an improvement of <strike>165</strike> 100hp over the suddenly pedestrian 997 Turbos being driven out of Porsche showrooms in standard guise. The giant increase in power comes after TechArt eighty-sixes the factory turbos in favor of larger units and upgrades the car's respiratory system with a new air filter and exhaust (which probably sounds absolutely evil). A reprogrammed ECU keeps all the changes from devolving into unbridled chaos.

All those mods result in some serious torque as well -- 516 lb-ft to be exact. The power gets wrestled to the Turbo's AWD system via the car's six-speed gearbox, which is now oil-cooled and features shorter throws thanks to TechArt. If you bought a Tiptronic turbo, don't sweat it. These guys'll still hook you up with the sick infusion of power.

So what does all this forced-induction mayhem net the driver? Well, the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time gets shaved from the stock car's 3.7 seconds to 3.45, and the top end rises to 211 mph from 193. Given that the unmolested 997 Turbo is nearly as capable as the tuned version, one really could get by with just the visual enhancements alone. But tuner cars like this are about pushing the envelope and wrenching every last drop of power out of the host vehicle -- a task the TechArt engineers are certainly up to. Why buy one? Because you can.

(Additional photos, press release, and tech specs after the jump)

[Source: TechArt]
Continue reading TechArt Porsche 911 Turbo to make Essen Motor Show debut

TechArt Porsche 911 Turbo to make Essen Motor Show debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 13 Nov 2006 18:35:00 EST. This time, the subject of its attention is the new-for-2007 Porsche 911 Turbo. No engine modifications are ready yet, so those looking to see what kind of obscene power TechArt is able to draw out of the Turbo's mill will have to wait patiently and make do with the 480+ horsepower it makes in stock form.

Just because the engine is stock, howevver, doesn't mean the car has to look that way. TechArt is certainly up to the task in that department. New spoilers fore and aft, side skirts, and a selection of TechArt exhausts are now available to give your new Turbo enhanced looks and sounds. Also available are the tuner's many suspension enhancements, headlined by their VarioPlus coilover suspension designed to work with PASM on cars that are so equipped.

Finally, TechArt makes some of the nicest aftermarket wheels in the business, and there are plenty to choose from for Porsche's newest bad boy.

All of the visual mods look great. We can't wait to see what TechArt comes up with when the engine tuning is complete..

(More hi res pics, press release after the jump)

[Source: TechArt]

Continue reading Tuner Tuesdays: TechArt Porsche 911 Turbo

Tuner Tuesdays: TechArt Porsche 911 Turbo originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 05 Sep 2006 17:29:00 EST.
