A few years back, Chevrolet ran a commercial that poked fun at Honda lawn mowers. In the ad, former NFL star and current analyst Howie Long gestures toward a red mower and admits, "Honda does make something that we just can't compete with." Little did Chevy know that Honda would later develop a lawnmower capable of keeping up with a stock Corvette.

We're not even sure they've got a blade of Kentucky Bluegrass to cut, but the folks at Top Gear have gone ahead and started building what will become, if they're successful, the world's fastest lawn mower. Actually, it appears Top Gear is not doing much of the design and assembly work at all, instead having solicited help from experts at Honda and Team Dynamics, which oversees the automaker's touring car efforts.

Of all the new debuts scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show – now less than two weeks away – few will proliferate quite like the new European-market Honda Civic. The Old World version of the new Civic has so far only been teased, but the company's UK competition division has already started work on the racing version that will take on the most famous circuits Great Britain has to offer.
