Remember that viral video of the BMW S1000RR superbike pulling off the old tablecloth trick? Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, better known as the Mythbusters, took a liking to the clip and decided it needed to be put to the test.

The premise is simple: Can a near-200-horsepower motorcycle muster up enough acceleration from a dead stop to pull the tablecloth from under 24 full place settings without sending them all toppling to the ground? And if not, what would it require to make that feat a reality? 100 mph and a quarter-mile of rope?

Instead of using the German machine, Jamie pressed his very own Erik Buell Racing 1125R. No worries about whether or not this bike is powerful enough for the test... it is. And then again, it isn't. You'll just have to click on past the break for the three-part video series to see what we mean. Oh, and feel free to fast forward through the parts you care less about, though it's all pretty interesting to us.

How do you win by failing? Satire, naturally. And that's exactly the tactic that Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia is using against World Superbike rival BMW. Both European manufacturers released brand new literbikes in the same year and have been doing battle both on the sales floor and the race track ever since.

BMW has proven that it knows how to build a proper sportbike with its S 1000 RR, coming out of the gates swinging with a 193-horsepower wallop and the most sophisticated electronics package available on the street. The Bavarian company has also shown its marketing chops, most memorably with the viral tablecloth video we featured a few months back.

But it's Aprilia that has the greater racing experience, and that's coming to the fore this season in competition. At present, the Italian marque is leading the Superbike manufacturer's championship with its RSV4 while BMW is, ahem... second to last. Ah yes, the good ol' pull-the-tablecloth-off-the-table-without-sending-dishes-flying routine. The oldest trick in the book? Possibly, but BMW has taken it upon themselves to update the classic demonstration in a major way. How 'bout upping the ante with 24 complete place settings around a giant rectangular table? Yeah, that'd do it.

Just how is BMW planning to remove said tablecloth? Using a new S 1000 RR superbike, that's how. Will it work? Well, it's really a question of physics, right? Take 193 horsepower and a 0 to 60 time that's just shy of 2.9 seconds. Add in one rider with a quick set of wrists and shake well. Garnish with celebratory wheelie.
