<br />
Organizers have cancelled the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/melbourne+motor+show/">Melbourne Motor Show</a> in the face of declining attendance and lackluster support from automakers. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/australia/">Australia</a> has already seen shows in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth close their doors, and with Melbourne following suit, Sydney is the country's last major auto show left standing. According to reports, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and the Victorian Chamber of Commerce - the two parties behind the Melbourne expo - have plans to remake the show in the image of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/goodwood festival fo speed/">Goodwood Festival of Speed</a>, but this year's efforts were crippled when <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/volkswagen group/">Volkswagen Group</a> pulled its participation. Likewise, neither <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> nor <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/kia/">Kia</a> had committed to attending.<br />
<br />
Those absences left fewer than 20 brands committed to the event despite the fact that the Australian market plays host to nearly 60 makes. Melbourne has seen attendance fall from a high of 257,000 visitors in 2004 to 160,000 in 2011. Likewise, attendance at the Sydney show has slide from a peak of 320,000 in 2001 to just 135,050 last year, and organizers had already moved to consolidate the two events under a joint-venture that would see both shows operate under the Australian International Motor Show moniker. See the official press notice on the cancellation <a href="/2013/03/25/melbourne-motor-show-cancelled-sydney-might-follow-suit/#continued">below</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/25/melbourne-motor-show-cancelled-sydney-might-follow-suit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Melbourne Motor Show cancelled, Sydney might follow suit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/25/melbourne-motor-show-cancelled-sydney-might-follow-suit/">Melbourne Motor Show cancelled, Sydney might follow suit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 25 Mar 2013 14:16:00 EST. <br />
If you haven't seen enough of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/09/lexus-lf-lc-concept-detroit-2012/">Norelco-inspired Lexus concept from this year's Detroit show</a>, just wait until October. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/australian+international+motor+show/">Australian International Motor Show</a> has formally announced that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/">Lexus</a> will be bringing a hybrid coupe concept to the Sydney show floor, reportedly another version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/lf-lc/">LF-LC</a> that graced Cobo nine months earlier.<br />
<br />
Car Advice says that the Aussie concept is likely to be differentiated from the concept we've already seen by employing an all-wheel-drive powertrain. Its gas-electric hybrid driveline is said to produce close to 500 horsepower, though we reserve the right to remain skeptical of anything still wearing a "concept" label, especially a vehicle that's likely three or four years out from production, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/17/lexus-lf-lc-production-bound-based-on-positive-reaction/">assuming it gets the green light at all</a>.<br />

<br />
You may not have guessed it on your own - we probably wouldn't have, either - but Australia ranks as the fifth largest market worldwide for <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a>. And yet all the exciting show cars are almost invariably unveiled at auto shows in the United States or Europe. You couldn't blame the Aussies for feeling neglected, so Mercedes arrived this year at the Australian International Motor Show with two special AMGs.<br />
<br />
The first is called Concept 358, and it's essentially a tweaked <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/c63+amg">C63 AMG</a> sedan featuring the AMG Performance Plus package (which boosts the 6.3-liter V8's output up to 480hp), 19-inch alloys, special leather interior and a unique Pearl Orange paint job.<br />
<br />
The unique <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/sls+amg">SLS AMG</a> unveiled Down Under also features a special paint scheme: in this case a unique Night Black matte-finish with red accents. They're not ground-breaking concepts, but interesting takes on some of Affalterbach's best. Details are in the press release after the jump.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/lexus">Lexus</a> is serious about pitching the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/ct+200h">CT 200h</a> as a sportier alternative to most hybrids. Thing is, like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/cr-z">Honda CR-Z</a>, the CT doesn't really live up to that hype. That won't stop Lexus from beefing things up a bit, though. To that end, it has unveiled an F Sport package for the hybrid hatch.<br />
<br />
Unveiled at Sydney's Australian International Motor Show, the CT 200h F Sport gets a revised body kit, up-sized alloys, tinted glass, specific dashboard and door panel trim, a thicker steering wheel, and new pedals. <br />
<br />
Lexus says it has re-tuned the suspension as well, and an optional Flame Blue color joins the catalog. Unfortunately, we think it makes the CT look more budget than premium. You can read all the details in the press release after the jump.<br />

<br />
The <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/sydney+motor+show">Sydney Motor Show</a> doesn't grab the full attention of the global media like <a href="http://autoblog.com/paris-motor-show">Paris</a> or <a href="http://autoblog.com/geneva-motor-show">Geneva</a>, though this latest bit of news from <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/subaru">Subaru</a> certainly piques our interest. We had heard rumblings of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/09/hotter-subaru-forester-in-the-works/">more potent Subaru crossover</a> before, and now this, the <a href="http://autoblog.com/subaru/forester">Forester</a> S-Edition concept, previews what the automaker says is "an exciting development in our Forester range" set to debut early next year.<br />
<br />
Subaru has boosted the Forester XT's turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four up to 259 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque, gains of 32 and 20, respectively over the normal Australian model. That power runs through a five-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters (a proper stick-shift would be preferred, Subaru), and a new variable torque distributing all-wheel-drive system keeps things in check on the road. Other enhancements include a revised sport suspension, 17-inch STI wheels, Alcantara seat trim and S-Edition badging throughout.<br />
<br />
Forester STI redux? Certainly sounds like it. Our only hope is that Subaru doesn't make this hot new Forester a JDM-only affair. (Fingers crossed!) Hit the jump to read the full details in Subaru's press release.<br />

<br />
Scooby fans down under might get the first look at an STI version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/subaru/forester">Subaru Forester</a> meant for global markets. It's only speculation at this point, but <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/subaru">Subaru</a> has said it will bring a "sporty SUV," and the <em>Sydney Morning Herald</em> figures an additionally boosted Forester makes the most sense. <br />
<br />
Regardless of whether such a beast would wear an STI badge - if it exists at all - the theory goes that it would get an STI-like jump in power above the turbocharged Forester currently on sale in Australia. The JDM version of the Forester STI, on sale for five years, puts down 322 horsepower - that's 26 more ponies than are available in the Aussie WRX STI.<br />
<br />
The Forester is already the top-selling compact SUV in Australia. Right now the most powerful version is the 227-hp XT model, so a boost in gumption would place it incontestably above the 268-hp <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/rav4">Toyota RAV4</a> and 235-hp <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/cx7">Mazda CX-7</a>. Subaru won't confirm anything else about what will be revealed, except that it could go worldwide.<br />

Compare that to last year's Sydney Auto Show in Australia, where <em>eighteen</em> brands declined the offer to showcase their wares, and you might conclude that things in Cobo Hall really aren't that bad. The shortfall of manufacturers on display contributed to a 40% dip in visitors to the Sydney show last year. Facing that same predicament this year, the options were to put on another dismally attended show or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/01/australia-may-switch-to-bi-annual-auto-shows/">go to a biannual format</a> and let Melbourne handle the 2009 honors. <br /><br />Unsurprisingly, Sydney has voted for the latter. Carmakers have been pushing for just one show major show in Australia for some time now, which makes some sense given that Sydney and Melbourne combined don't even have the population of Los Angeles County. The <a href="http://www.motorshow.com.au/">Melbourne Motor Show</a> will still run from February 27 to March 9 this year, and Sydney will return in October of 2010.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.watoday.com.au/national/2009-sydney-motor-show-cancelled-20090203-7wdy.html">WA Today</a> | Photo by Greg Wood/Getty]]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/04/report-sydney-motor-show-scrapped-melbourne-to-go-on/">REPORT: Sydney Motor Show scrapped, Melbourne to go on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 04 Feb 2009 09:58:00 EST. <br />Ford Performance Vehicles, otherwise known as FPV, is celebrating its fifth birthday as being the sharp end of Ford Australia's performance stick. FPV presented itself with a gift at this week's Australian International Motor Show in the form of a special edition FPV 5th Anniversary model. Only 200 units will be produced of the rear-wheel-drive Falcon-based birthday present, ensuring instant collector car status for the discerning Aussie buyer. The car features Alpine Silver 19-inch multi-spoke wheels, 6-piston Brembo brakes, sports seats upholstered in Nudo leather and special "5th Anniversary" decals on the trunk, ahead of the rear wheels, embossed on the front headrests and on the floormats. The FPV 5th Anniversary model will be available in Lightning Strike or Silhouette, both with striping, and starts at $71,890 in Australian dollars, which FPV says equates to $9,600 worth of extra goodies for only $5,300 more than the FPV GT sedan. So happy birthday to FPV, and we hope that Ford invites us to your rear-wheel-drive performance sedan party some time soon.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/fpv-5th-anniversary-special-edition">FPV 5th Anniversary Special Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/fpv-5th-anniversary-special-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/00_fpv5th_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/fpv-5th-anniversary-special-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_fpv5th_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/fpv-5th-anniversary-special-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_fpv5th_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/fpv-5th-anniversary-special-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_fpv5th_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/fpv-5th-anniversary-special-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/04_fpv5th_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: FPV]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/10/fpv-gt-5th-anniversary-edition-unveiled-in-sydney/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FPV GT 5th Anniversary edition unveiled in Sydney</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/10/fpv-gt-5th-anniversary-edition-unveiled-in-sydney/">FPV GT 5th Anniversary edition unveiled in Sydney</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 10 Oct 2008 12:57:00 EST. <br />It's <a href="http://www.hsv.com.au/news/news.asp?ID=883">anniversary time</a> in Oz for HSV, Holden's high-performance division. That means stripes, stickers, commemorative badges and a pair of new unveilings at the Sydney Motor Show. In HSV's case, at least, the extra pieces of flair go on fire-breathing, tire-shredding LS3-powered monsters, so the usual lameness attached to these sorts of things goes right out the window. The 40th anniversary of the GTS nameplate's first appearance (<a href="http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/holden-hk-monaro-gts-01.JPG">on the '68 Monaro</a>) means we get a special <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-gts-40th-anniversary/1087354/">HSV GTS 40th Anniversary</a> model. And since 20 years have passed since the original <a href="http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=72993">SV88</a> appeared, a special edition HSV Senator Signature dubbed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-sv08/1087345/">SV08</a> has also been unveiled. HSV will build 100 of the Anniversary GTS models and just 50 SV08s. And yes, we'd happily take one of each, thank you. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-sv08">HSV SV08</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-sv08/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_sv08_hi_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-sv08/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_sv08_hi_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-sv08/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_sv08_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-sv08/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_sv08_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-sv08/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_sv08_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-gts-40th-anniversary">HSV GTS 40th Anniversary</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-gts-40th-anniversary/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_gts40_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-gts-40th-anniversary/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_gts40_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-gts-40th-anniversary/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_gts40_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-gts-40th-anniversary/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_gts40_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hsv-gts-40th-anniversary/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/hsv_gts40_hi_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.hsv.com.au/news/news.asp?ID=883">HSV</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/hsv-unveils-40th-anniversary-gts-sv08-in-sydney/">HSV unveils 40th Anniversary GTS, SV08 in Sydney</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 10:57:00 EST. The Australians have a better one. I know, I know -- shocking. Mazda Australia revealed the Mazda3 MPS Extreme at the Sydney Motor Show today, and it's a pretty compelling package. PCM reprogramming results in boosted mumbers of 281 horsepower and 313 lb-ft of torque. The fun doesn't end there either, as the Extreme gets a 2-inch exhaust and a suspension tuned by Murray Coote, who does the same for Australian race and rally cars. 19" BBS wheels with red MPS center caps fill out the fender cutouts, and the car itself is finished in red paint with black stripes and a black roof. It looks mean both in pictures and on paper, and it's just for our friends Down Under. <br /><br />Follow the jump for the official press release and tech specs. <br /><br />[Source: Mazda]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda3-mps-extreme">Mazda3 MPS Extreme</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda3-mps-extreme/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/mazda3mpsextreme_hi005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda3-mps-extreme/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/mazda3mpsextreme_hi004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda3-mps-extreme/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/mazda3mpsextreme_hi003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda3-mps-extreme/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/mazda3mpsextreme_hi001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda3-mps-extreme/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/mazda3mpsextreme_hi002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/11/sydney-2007-aussie-only-281-hp-mazda3-mps-extreme/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sydney 2007: Aussie-only 281 HP Mazda3 MPS Extreme</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/11/sydney-2007-aussie-only-281-hp-mazda3-mps-extreme/">Sydney 2007: Aussie-only 281 HP Mazda3 MPS Extreme</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 00:31:00 EST. VW tweaked the ECU to huff extra boost into the twin-turbo'd 5.0-liter V10 TDI, which now produces 350 HP at 3,500 RPM and peak torque of 627 lb.-ft. at 2,000 RPM. That allows the bespoke blue behemoth to sprint to 62 in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 146 MPH.<br /><br />The Touareg's R-treatment isn't limited to the extra grunt, as VW's Individual group equipped the R50 with 21-inch rollers wrapped in 295mm gumballs that frame blue-painted brake calipers. The front clip gets a revised bumper and a grille coated in a matte finish, while flared wheel arches and new side skirts give the R50 a more planted persona. The inside gets swathed in Nappa leather complete with the "R50" logo stitched into the seats and engraved into the doorsills.<br /><br />When the Touareg R50 goes on sale this November, consumers will have their choice of five color combos: Biscay Blue, Campanella White, Reflex Silver, Black Magic and Atacam Gray.<br /><br />Volkswagen's press release is posted after the jump.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volkswagen-touareg-r50">Volkswagen Touareg R50</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volkswagen-touareg-r50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/touareg_r50_1280_p_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volkswagen-touareg-r50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/touareg_r50_1280_p_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volkswagen-touareg-r50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/touareg_r50_1280_p_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/09/volkswagen-touareg-r50-stump-pulling-in-style/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volkswagen Touareg R50: Stump pulling in style</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/09/volkswagen-touareg-r50-stump-pulling-in-style/">Volkswagen Touareg R50: Stump pulling in style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 09 Oct 2007 14:31:00 EST. The new Land Cruiser is completely redesigned with a look that evokes the Tundra's bold front end, but it's also 60mm longer and 30mm wider than the vehicle it replaces. The larger dimensions allow the new Cruiser to seat eight comfortably, though we'll wait until we sit in the third row ourselves to test that claim. <br /><br />In Australia, Toyota will be offering the Land Cruiser with either a turbodiesel V8 or gas V8 engine. While the Australian press release didn't contain details on either powerplant, we found a European press release that states the diesel will be a 4.5L producing 286 HP and 480 ft-lbs. of torque, and it will be mated to a 6-speed automatic. The gas engine will be a 4.7L VVT-i V8 producing 288 HP and 328 ft-lbs. of torque, though its power will be divided by a 5-speed automatic. Since its sister SUV, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-lexus-lx570/">Lexus LX570</a>, will go on sale in the U.S. with the Tundra's 5.7L V8, we expect the Land Cruiser to be offered in the States with that engine, as well. <br /><br />[Source: Toyota]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/18/officially-official-toyota-debuts-8th-generation-land-cruiser/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Officially Official: Toyota debuts 8th generation Land Cruiser</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/18/officially-official-toyota-debuts-8th-generation-land-cruiser/">Officially Official: Toyota debuts 8th generation Land Cruiser</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 18 Sep 2007 13:25:00 EST. Powered by the optional 3.3-liter V6 in stock form, the SXi features an upgraded suspension, a brake upgrade with red-painted calipers, new wheels and tires, and a very subtle body kit that add skirts to the car's flanks and rear bumper, as well as a new lip spoiler up front. A decklid spoiler rounds things out. <br /><br />In front, the top part of the grille surround is now a red line (think VW GTI). The interior, which we unfortunately don't have photos of yet, features silver trim, black leather and red contrast stitching. The car is purely a styling exercise, so there's no news regarding any newfound goodness underhood, but Toyota Australia is careful to note that many of the appearance mods seen here are under consideration for a potential future sports model, which would likely be powered by "a supercharged or turbocharged version of an advanced Toyota engine."<br /><br />We'll take that as a wink-wink, nudge-nudge, seeing as the Aussies <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/22/holden-hsv-e-series-lineup-unveiled/">love fast saloons</a>, and there's clearly a market for them on the island continent. Anyway, back to the Aurion Sports Concept. <br /><br />It's finished in Inferno Red with contrasting metallic grey accents where you'd find the more pedestrian chrome bits on a regular Aurion. In front, the car's aero kit is complemented by a floating grille frame with a mesh insert. The grey accent color carries the grille and upper half of the bumper down to the lower lip spoiler, recalling the type of look VW went for with its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/19/new-york-auto-show-volkswagen-passat-gets-aggressive/">R-GT Passat</a> in NY last April. That's not a bad thing at all, actually. It looks great here. In back, the upgraded rear bumper features integrated exhaust outlets and a diffuser insert. The big 5-spoke wheels are painted in the same metallic grey finish as the rest of the car's trim pieces. Finally, the glass and roof all get a blackout treatment. <br /><br />Good stuff. Let's see if TRD can work up something this cool for our version of this car, the Camry. <br /><br />(Photos, press release after the jump)<br /><br />[Source: Toyota Australia]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-aurion-sports-concept">Toyota Aurion Sports Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-aurion-sports-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/aurion_sports_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-aurion-sports-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/aurion_sports_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-aurion-sports-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/aurion_sports_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-aurion-sports-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/aurion_sports_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-aurion-sports-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/aurion_sports_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/26/sydney-special-toyota-aurion-sports-concept/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sydney Special: Toyota Aurion Sports Concept</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/26/sydney-special-toyota-aurion-sports-concept/">Sydney Special: Toyota Aurion Sports Concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 26 Oct 2006 12:57:00 EST. The car's share the same 3.8-liter MIVEC V6 from which the Australian version gets its name, which is why we're so jealous of the Australian market after seeing this 380 TMR concept being shown off at the Sydney Motor Show. The 380 TMR features a supercharged version of the MIVEC 3.8-liter V6 that produces 308 horsepower and 326 ft-lbs. of torque, which are scary numbers indeed for a front-wheel drive sedan, but assuredly entertaining, as well. Aside from the hopped-up engine, the TMR, which stands for Team Mitsubishi Ralliart, includes six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes developed by Ralliart, a ride height lowered 50mm on adjustable Koni shocks, and 19-inch wheels bound with Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber. Styling is amped up with a new hood that sports twin scoops and aggressive body kit, while Recaro seats and a Fujitsu sound system are new additions to the interior.<br /><br />Mitsubishi is seriously considering offering the TMR 380 to its Australian customers in one form or another, either as a two-tier model range with a lower-spec example sporting all the visuals and a top end version that adds the supercharged motor. The automaker might also make the components used to build the TMR 380 available as individual accessories. The business case seems solid, as Mitsubishi has already received orders for the car after it was seen on the internet. <br /><br />Knowing that the 3.8-liter V6 powering the 380 is available in the U.S.-spec Galant, we're groaning out loud that this supercharged version wasn't offered in the Galant Ralliart. The Galant Ralliart sold here has a normally aspirated 258-horsepower version of the same engine that routs power through a 5-speed automatic. While 258-horsepower is nothing to scoff at, scoff we shall since more powerful motors are offered by the Galant's competition in models that are bereft of much sporting intent. The Toyota Camry's 3.5-liter V6, for instance, produces 268 horsepower, and it doesn't have a TRD badge on the back. It seems Australians have even more power lust than us in North America, and Mitsubishi is happy to feed their need. <br /><br />[Source: Drive.com.au]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/26/mitsubishi-may-build-supercharged-galant-for-aussies/">Mitsubishi may build supercharged Galant for Aussies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 26 Oct 2006 11:33:00 EST.
