The Wait For A BRZ STI Continues, But In The Meantime The tS Is Damn Good

Subaru tells us that a car like the JDM BRZ tS will mak its way to the US soon. We drive it at Suzuka Circuit to see if it can sate our STI longing.

Not A Future Production Model, But A Signal Of Good Things To Come

Subaru's new concept car doesn't indicate a turbocharged BRZ is headed for showrooms. But it does foretell a bright future for STI in the US.

Another week coming to a close brings another rumor of a potential hotted-up version of the Subaru everyone wants to turbocharge, the BRZ.

Ever since Subaru released the BRZ, fans have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the STI version. But despite the recent release of the tS package, the brand faithful will have to wait a little longer, because the tS stops short of the full STI treatment. But at least it looks the part.

Fans of the sweet-handling Subaru BRZ awaiting some performance enhancements got their hopes up earlier this month when parent Fuji Heavy Industries dropped some teasers hinting at an apparent STI version, but as was subsequently suspected, the model in question – now revealed in full – stops short of being a full-on STI model.

Teaser images of a purported Subaru BRZ STI were uncovered last night and sent the internet into a collective state of hysterics. That's not hugely surprising, though, considering the reverence that the BRZ, along with its fraternal twins, the Scion FR-S and Toyota GT86, have garnered from the automotive media. The sole sticking point, really, has been its mere 200 horsepower. People have been chomping at the bit over a higher output version of the sublime rear driver.
