French stuntman Guerlain Chicherit hit the ski slopes of Tignes, France over the weekend - not to enjoy the fresh snow but to perform the first-ever unassisted backlip in a car, which was teased last month.

The unassisted part of the stunt comes from the fact that he Chicherit, in a special rally-prepped Mini Countryman, uses a regular, solid ramp rather than any specially modified ramps that have been used in the past to pull off this stunt. Unfortunately, after 18 months of practice, you'd think the video would be more entertaining by showing more closeups or better angles of the stunt.

Either way, you can check out Chicherit and his Countryman nail the back flip in the video posted below, and Mini has provided a press release and some high-res shots for the stunt as well.

Tanner Godfrey of Nitro Circus rides in elevator with his motocross bike - video screencap

To promote being in Mesquite, Nevada during the Mesquite Off-Road Weekend, Nitro Circus sent co-founder Tanner Gavin Godfrey on a gambling spree through the Eureka Casino. Not exactly playing the penny slots, however, Godfrey takes a tour of the hotel and casino from the saddle of his motocross bike.

It's a good time, and the intro is priceless. You can watch him lay down chips and rubber in the video below.

The worlds of motocross and rallycross are already quite intertwined, so DC Shoes has apparently decided to go a little further by putting together a Gymkhana-style event for dirtbikes. For this video, Australian stunt motorcycle rider Robbie Maddison is let loose inside of an airplane graveyard making for some interesting, fun-to-watch stunts.

Maddison starts off by tackling some whoops made out of external wing fuel tanks, and the action just gets better from there as he uses planes and various plane parts. (Note: Although the entire video is almost 11 minutes in length, it takes about two minutes for the action to get started and there are almost four minutes of credits at the end).

It isn't clear if DC Shoes plans on creating a series like it has with Ken Block and Gymkhana, but we sure wouldn't mind seeing this kind of action on a regular basis. Check it out for yourself in the video posted below.

Not too long ago, the idea of doing a backflip seemed almost impossible on two wheels let alone four, but now the stunt is routinely performed using everything from dirtbikes to monster trucks. Now Mini is getting into the game by attempting to perform a backflip with French stuntman Guerlain Chicherit behind the wheel of a highly modified Countryman, which it claims is the first-ever attempt at doing so with a car.

Another unique element of the jump that Mini is claiming is in regards to the ramp. Past automotive backflips, including Rhys Millen's 2009 jump to ring in the New Year, have used special ramps that help rotate the car, but the ramp Chicherit uses is "unassisted" and the backflip is attempted using only "a gas pedal and a prayer" according to a Mini spokesman for the event.

The video posted below is only a teaser showing the car launch up into the air, but while we have to wait until February 10 to see the final result, it sounds like the landing was a success. According to the Chicherit's Facebook page, practice for the stunt took 18 months of work with "lots of crashes."

Hot Wheels real-life corkscrew world record jump attempt

If you're anything like us (adult men with a love of cars, reasonable amounts of disposable income and way too much time on our hands during the day) you might have anywhere from five to 500 feet of orange Hot Wheels track in your basement. If you do, you've likely twisted, suspended, stapled and/or taped that track around your living quarters, trying to make tiny cars do amazingly sweet tricks.

What you haven't done, nor we, is ramp up (heh) the whole business to life-size scale. That's why the good folks at the Hot Wheels Test Facility have jobs we suppose - where else would we get videos like the one below?

A huge Hot Wheels track, a pretty wild-looking dune buggy and driver Brent Fletcher flying 92 feet in a corkscrewing fashion to claim a world record... it all sounds like a pretty great day job to our inner 10-year-old selves. We'll shut up now and let you watch the video below the fold.

Hoonigan Video - Drifting Rolls-Royce

Say what you will about Ken Block. The guy knows how to have some fun. He's also pretty good at selling clothing. The hotshoe's latest move to sling t-shirts flies under the Hoonigan banner, where vehicular antics of every sort can safely gather. The crew has worked up a best of compilation video stitching together some of the internet's most infamous cases of drivers behaving badly. Even better, the clips are set to Motorhead's gasoline-fueled "Ace of Spades." Hammer down, ladies and gentlemen.

Now, we enjoy marketing about as much as we like flossing with a ball peen hammer, but if we absolutely have to be peddled future shop rags, it might as well be like this. So, go forth and hoon. Astro Spiral Jump

Rob Dyrdek's "kick flip" stunt in a Chevrolet Sonic effectively sealed his place in the hallowed halls of stunt driver lore. As it turns out, actually pulling off a 360-degree barrel roll in a vehicle is one of the most challenging stunts one can perform. Driving on two wheels? Cakewalk. Knocking down a series of buses stacked on their ends? As easy as sucking pea soup through a crazy straw. The barrel roll requires stacks of mathematical calculations to account for everything from the vehicle's weight to its speed and the exact rotation angle of each ramp.

But Dyrdek wasn't the first guy to successfully execute such a bit of insanity. He's one of a select few stunt drivers to do the deed, and Popular Mechanics has taken a look at those who have tackled the automotive barrel roll in the past. Dyrdek's stunt was actually an almost exact replica of the Astro Spiral Jump as performed in 1972 at the Houston Astrodome. That exercise used a significantly classier AMC Javelin, however. Wanna see something really crazy? How about some double and triple flips, with riders and pilots mounted on all sorts of crazy contraptions? We've got some of the usual suspects, dirt bikes, wheelchairs, pink barbie cars...

Yes, we said pink barbie cars. You know - the plastic kind that little girls from your neighborhood ride the sidewalks in.

The event took place on June 5th, 2011, at the MGM Grand Arena in front of a live audience in Las Vegas. Hey, Travis Pastrana and the rest of the motley Nitro Circus crew sure beats Celine Dion, right?

Among the world-firsts made or at least attempted during the event were a synchronized double back flip, a three-person back flip and a double front Superman flip. If you don't know what any of that means, we suggest you check out the video after the break.

Oh, and if all that wasn't enough, Travis Pastrana also used the live event to propose to his girlfriend, X Games gold medalist Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins. Video of that blessed moment can also be seen... you guessed it, after the break.
