But if that minivan is the 2010 Honda Stream, you can still satisfy your sporty urges thanks to Mugen. The practically in-house tuner has developed a full line of interior, exterior, aero, performance, handling and cosmetic parts for the people mover -- from typical Mugen mods like spoilers and wheels to a performance air filter and TypeT touring brake pads. If you add the sport suspension to your minivan, well, maybe you really do need to get a different car.

Gallery: 2010 Mugen Honda Stream

[Source: Mugen]
Unlikely State Of Tune: Mugen takes on the Honda Stream originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 28 Jun 2009 20:07:00 EST. Coverage appears to have just started a short time ago (as of 8:41 Eastern, the racers have just pulled out on the circuit behind the pace car). The full 24 hours of racing will be streamed. To watch, visit http://adac.24h-rennen.de/live/live-streaming.html. After sitting through a few commercials, it drops you right into the stream. Enjoy.

UPDATE: RadioLeMans.com is also streaming live video with English commentary. It's got a bigger video window, and you have on-track audio, so you can hear the cars' engines on the circuit. The commentators are also funny, as the Lexus LF-A had pitted and was having its rearview mirror adjusted while other work was done on the car. Next thing you know, it's being pushed into the pit garage. One of the announcers deadpans, "They're obviously having a lot of problems with the mirror there." RadioLemans.com wins.

UPDATE 2: Live standings (all classes) can be seen here (there's a slight delay, but it's useful). For a kick, keep an eye open for the #114 car. It's an Opel Manta with a fox tail hanging off the roof antenna. Great stuff. As LS2/LS7 points out in the comments, the Nürburgring 24h is not a "big" race compared to others, but it's definitely fun to look in on.

UPDATE 3: The race is over (podium ceremony taking place as I type at 9:25 AM Eastern). The Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR driven by the veritable all-star team of Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb, and Marcel Tiemann is the overall winner. Full results can be found here. Commenter "Philthy" also reports that tragically, the #114 Opel Manta lost its foxtail somewhere along the way. The Manta, in case you're curious, finished 46th overall and 4th in the SP3 class.

[Source: ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24h]
Nürburgring 24 hours streaming live on the web originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 24 May 2008 08:43:00 EST.
Hybrid vehicles have always offered more benefits to the zip-around-town Domino's pizza delivery boy than the long-distance highway commuter. In fact, without regernative braking at work, a hybrid vehicle at highway speeds exhibits very few efficiency advantages over a frugal MINI Cooper.

Addressing one of the problems, Honda is now touting a "heat-harnessing hybrid", claiming it can recapture energy that most conventional hybrids lose during high speed driving. Greatly simplified, the innovative approach uses exhaust heat to convert water to steam. The steam turns an electric generator that then charges the vehicle's battery pack. It's all based on an age-old principle called the "Rankine cycle." Pre-boomers may recall it's the same type of technology that was used in the Stanley Steamer a century ago.

Honda crammed all of the "heat-harnessing" plumbing into a Honda Stream prototype and captured three times as much energy as a regenerative braking system on the EPA highway cycle. While that may sound impressive, the technology still needs to come a long way and the price fall before we find steam generators in our cars. Thanks to Sylvester for the tip!

Nevertheless, Honda appears intent to make some money off of this MPV that's based on the same platform as the Civic and CR-V. It's reportedly been a big hit in Japan since it debuted in 2000, though the recent redesign has met with mixed reviews. Though the JDM version can seat up to seven or eight people, Winding Road reports the U.S. version will probably get only two rows of seats. In Japan, the Stream is available with either a R18A 1.8L i-VTEC engine and five-speed auto or an R20A 2.0L i-VTEC engine mated to a CVT transmission. Whether those engines will be offered in the U.S. in unknown, though we would expect at least the larger of the two motors to make the journey to our shores.

Considering Honda's success with the Odyssey in the minivan segment, the Stream may do very well in the U.S. It appears smaller than a minivan, but larger than, say, a Mazda5. The current trend of segment-bending tall wagons and CUVs could carry the Stream right along.

[Source: Winding Road]
Sources Say: Honda Stream coming to U.S. in 2009 originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 29 Aug 2007 14:56:00 EST. The new Stream's design seems to borrow heavily from Honda's current design language, which places a large brand badge front and center in a wide grille that's flanked by sharply shaped headlights. The back of the Stream resembles a CRV with taillights that run up the rear all the way to the roof. The seven-seater with a fold-flat third row reminds us of what the Odyssey might have been had Honda not turned it into a traditional minivan here in North America. Traction control and an automatic transmission appear to be standard on the base model, while a six-speed is likely for the sportier RSZ. We're still a bit unclear as to what engine will be available, but from what we can gather there'll be two, one of which will be a 1.8L i-VTEC.

There's also rumors floating around that forces within Honda North America want to see the Stream on sale in the States.

More pics of the '07 Stream after the jump...

[Source: Autoblog Spanish]
Continue reading 2007 Honda Stream debuts in Japan

2007 Honda Stream debuts in Japan originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 19 Jun 2006 06:54:00 EST.
