Saab hires Saabs United blogger Steven Wade as social media guru

Steven Wade has been cranking out blog posts about all things Saab for the last six years at the helm of Saabs United, a blog he helped create. Eventually, the strains of a family, full-time job and keeping Saabs United afloat meant that selling the site was necessary. Meanwhile, 'Swade,' as he is known, decided to quit his day job to focus on his love for all things Saab.

With the day job out of the way, the newly unemployed Wade has now been picked up by Saab to handle social media duties as the company tries to connect more with its customer base. Needless to say, this is a huge step for Wade, who will be helping Saab connect with its loyal base of customers and fans on an intimate level.

We can't think of a better man for the job, given Swade's immense talent, knowledge of Saabs, of love for the brand. Good luck and Godspeed. The automaker's official statement is yours for the reading after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Johan!

Enthusiast blog Saabs United inspires official automaker award

Throughout the turmoil of the on again, off again sale of Saab to Spyker, the site Saabs United did its part to rally supporters of the brand and keep the world up to date on what was happening at any particular moment. At one point during the brand's dark days, Saabs United founder Steven Wade presented company CEO Jan Åke Jonsson with a boomerang as a symbol of the head honcho's tenacity when it came to returning to the bargaining table. Now that Saab appears to be headed toward calmer waters, that boomerang has inspired Jonsson to create a Saabs United award.

The award features the very same boomerang along with a model of the Ursaab - the company's very first model - on a plinth. The strange looking award will be handed out annually, and Jonsson says the honor will be given each year to the individual who made the single greatest contribution to the company's success. Fittingly enough, this year the award went to Wade himself. Hop the jump for a look at the full press blast.

Trollhattan Saab exits the automotive blogosphere

We're very sad to report that Trollhattan Saab, one of the best automotive blogs on the web and a valuable resource and gathering place for Saab aficionados, is closing its doors after today. The site will remain online as an archive, but there won't be any new posts going forward. Steven Wade, Trollhattan Saab's creator and driving force, explains his decision in a post called "The End", which went up on Wednesday. After reading it, we understand why he has chosen to walk away, but that doesn't make it any less disappointing to the people who visited Trollhattan Saab regularly. Good car sites are hard to come by, and this one will surely be missed. Good luck, Swade.
