<br />
This isn't our first sampling of the reborn <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/challenger">Dodge Challenger</a>. We've driven the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/12/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-se/">SE</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/">R/T</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/Challenger+SRT8">SRT8</a> variants before. However, this time it's different. We've secured a Challenger SRT-8 with a six-speed manual transmission - and it's a whole different breed of bull.<br />
<br />
The six-speed-equipped Dodge Challenger SRT8 drives exactly as it looks. Unlike the countless poseurs promising handling with oversize tires, performance with monstrous exhaust pipes, or luxury with overstuffed cabins, the Challenger SRT8 delivers only what its exterior suggests - a mountain of machismo-infused muscle-car entertainment.<br />
<br />
We had a week with Dodge's tribute to testosterone, and it's one we won't soon forget. Contrary to its automatic-equipped siblings, the manual gearbox transforms the SRT8 from merely entertaining to positively supernatural. Make the jump to find out why this husky red coupe had us shaving twice daily.<br />

With the redesigned 2011 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/new-york-2011-jeep-grand-cherokee-must-serve-two-masters/">Jeep Grand Cherokee</a> already revealed under the brights lights of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/New-York-Auto-Show/">New York Auto Show</a>, it was only a matter of time before we received news of the high-performance version's fate.<br /><br />Aside from big wheels, a ram air scoop, rear spoiler and some subtle ground effects, the new GC SRT8 looks fairly restrained from the outside, but inside reportedly lies a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 producing between 505 and 525 horsepower and somewhere around 510 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle's all-wheel-drive system will also reportedly be heavily revised to handle all that power, which should make this new SRT8 SUV faster than its predecessors and one of if not the fastest SUV of all time. <br /><br />Being that Chrysler uses the same V8 in most SRT8 products, expect this one to find its way under the hood of the Challenger SRT8 and Charger SRT8, as well. You might be asking why Chrysler continues to keep the lights on in the SRT offices, especially after <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/18/breaking-gm-disbands-high-performance-vehicle-operations/">GM scuttled its High Performance Vehicles Operation</a>. While the cash to make new SRT vehicles could certainly be used for other things, we applaud the Auburn Hills-based automaker's decision to further fund its high performance department. If anything, it shows there are men and women in the company who still passionate about building things other than minivans and Wranglers.<br /><br /><strong>UPDATE:</strong> We contacted Chrysler to confirm this rendering is indeed official and were told, "Definitely not ours." So consider the image and information above speculation until harder evidence surfaces.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5208899/2012-jeep-grand-cherokee-srt8-exclusive-first-look">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/2012-jeep-grand-cherokee-srt8-gets-rendered/">Rendered Speculation: 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 11:27:00 EST. <br />After learning that General Motors would be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/18/breaking-gm-disbands-high-performance-vehicle-operations/">disbanding</a> its High Performance Vehicle Operations team to focus on less performance-oriented projects, our thoughts naturally turned towards Ford's SVT and Chrysler's SRT groups. Would Detroit's other automakers follow GM's lead and kill off their fellow speed divisions? Apparently not. Ford has gone on record stating that the SVT program will continue on in its current capacity and now Chrysler has announced that it will continue to develop SRT versions of its volume sellers.<br /><br />In a posting on Chrysler's Red Letter Dodge blog, Steve Bartoli, Chrysler's vice president for global product planning, had a few choice comments regarding the future of the Pentastar's SRT models, saying, "We are working on a sedan as we speak. We will look at many styling options." Admittedly, that's short on detail, but it does portend good things to come for fans of big HEMI engines and fat rear tires. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/">Review: 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/01_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/04_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/00_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/03_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/02_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.redletterdodge.com/2009/03/05/open-forum-steve-bartolis-chata-real-look-inside-chryslers-future/">Red Letter Dodge Blog</a> via <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=143347">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/06/chrysler-srt-sticking-around/">Mopar(ty) On: Dodge's SRT performance division to stay the course</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 06 Mar 2009 15:55:00 EST. <br />Back in September <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/12/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-se/">we reviewed</a> the V6-powered Dodge Challenger SE, and our conclusion was that an uninspiring engine and benign handling was trumped by terrific curb appeal and an affordable price tag. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t/">R/T model</a> we reviewed yesterday fared even better, with a near perfect combination of brawn and beauty. It was fun spending time behind the wheel of both the SE and R/T models, but we knew we had to get our hands on a fire-breathing, 425-hp 6.1L HEMI V8 to see how capable the Challenger could be at full tilt. After all, there are few things in life better than classic muscle car looks combined with a brute-force V8. And if there are two available V8 engines, it just makes sense that we'd prefer the Challenger with the most powerful powerplant. Did Dodge hit the mark with its top Challenger? We welcomed the Challenger SRT8 into the Autoblog Garage to find out for ourselves.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/">Review: 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/01_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/04_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/00_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/03_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/02_09challengersrt8gar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong>Photos Copyright (C)2008 Chris Shunk / Weblogs, Inc. </strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/03/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/03/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-dodge-challenger-srt8/">In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 11:58:00 EST. The <em>Detroit News</em> is reporting that while the majority of limited edition SRT8s were already sold before they were built, about one-quarter of the Challengers were set aside for dealer orders.<br /><br />Several retailers across the U.S. have between two and twenty Challengers sitting on the lot, with one dealer advertising in Michigan's Macomb Daily that nine Brilliant Black, eight Hemi Orange and two Silver Metallic HEMI-powered coupes are available for the taking. Naturally, supply is dependent on where you live. One dealer in Naples, Florida sold out all eight Challengers in three days, while others have only sold only one out of their allotment. And just because you can find one, doesn't mean it will be selling for sticker. Markups are to be expected, with one dealer charging $45,145 - or about $7,000 - above the SRT8's MSRP.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt-8-first-drive/low/">2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 - First Drive</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt-8-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/00_challengersrt8firstdrive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt-8-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/01_challengersrt8firstdrive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt-8-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/02_challengersrt8firstdrive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt-8-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/03_challengersrt8firstdrive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt-8-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/04_challengersrt8firstdrive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080710/AUTO01/807100354/1148/rss25">Detroit News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8s-still-available/">2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s still available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 11:26:00 EST. We're particularly fond of the R/T Classic package (above), which gets a coat of B5 Blue, 20" torq-thrust lookalikes, throwback R/T stripes, and the old-school script Challenger badge on the front fender. Unfortunately, while Chrysler was cooking up the retro badging, they neglected to order up some nouveau <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fratzog">Fratzogs</a> to really finish off the look, so the Ram-head shield sits on the hood, instead. Too bad. As for the rest of the car? Badass. There are some pretty cool stripe and wheel options to be had regardless of trim level, plus what's sure to be a bevy of aftermarket parts from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/890654/">Mopar</a> and other third parties. Finally, Chrysler's offering a factory R/T <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/890672/">Track Pack</a> that, in its most aggressive form, combines the 6-speed Tremec with 20" wheels and a 3.91 rear axle ratio. Bring money for tires. Ford is the king of leveraging its heritage to keep the Mustang interesting. Chrysler has a shot at doing the same thing here with the Challenger. From the looks of things, it's off to a good start. That R/T Classic? Yeah, we could roll like that. <em>Thanks to Challenger64HEMI for the heads-up!<br /></em><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/low/">2009 Dodge Challenger brochure</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/2009chall_broch_1600_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/2009chall_broch_1600_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/2009chall_broch_1600_22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/2009chall_broch_1600_23_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-brochure/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/2009chall_broch_1600_24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Flickr user <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mnhotrods/sets/72157605875346279/">mnhotrod</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/29/09-challenger-brochure-hits-the-web-retro-overload-ensues/">'09 Challenger brochure hits the web, retro overload ensues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 29 Jun 2008 19:55:00 EST. This has again proven to be the case with the new Dodge Challenger, as a company known as <a href="http://www.speedfactorycars.com/">Speedfactory</a> has just done the deed on its new steed. What sets this particular vehicle and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/speedfactory-supercharged-challenger/861410/">its dyno numbers</a> apart from other SRT8s, though, is its <a href="http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/global_item.php?gik=300&amp;section=News">Vortech supercharger</a>. Considering that the 6.1 liter HEMI V8 under the Challenger's long, scooped hood is the same one available these last few years in other SRT-branded eight-cylinder vehicles, we're not too surprised to see that the system is pretty mature and posts rather good horsepower and torque numbers right out of the gate. <br /><br />Coming in at about 495 horses at the rear tires, Speedfactory surmises that its Challenger is making around six hundred ponies at the crank. If owners of the GT500 weren't concerned with the Challenger's performance numbers before, perhaps the addition of a supercharger to the HEMI will bring it more in line with the numbers coming from the Shelby's force-fed mill. Folks, it's muscle car time again, let the games begin!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/speedfactory-supercharged-challenger/low/">Speedfactory Supercharged Challenger</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/speedfactory-supercharged-challenger/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/vortech_challenger_large_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/speedfactory-supercharged-challenger/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/vortech_challenger_dyno_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?p=1610065#post1610065">LX Forums</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/15/that-didnt-take-long-supercharged-challenger-srt8-hits-the-dy/">That didn't take long - supercharged Challenger SRT8 hits the dyno</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 15 Jun 2008 15:39:00 EST. Such is the case with Dodge's new pony car, which apparently comes equipped with an "SRT-exclusive Reconfigurable Display" (RCD). What does that mean? Well, you can customize the readout at the bottom of the SRT8's 180 mph speedo to display 0-60 acceleration times, 60-0 braking times, 1/4-mile times and g-forces to see if your numbers and Dodge's agree. According to the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/07/dodge-challenger-srt8-sports-g-meter-built-in-0-60-timer/">after the jump</a>, you can also log your best runs and see how you faired at a later (read: safer) time.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/">2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/0_achallengersrt8-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/0_achallengersrt8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/1_achallengersrt8-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/1_achallengersrt8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/6_achallengersrt8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2008-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/low/">Chicago 2008: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 live reveal</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2008-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0000challenger_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2008-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0001challenger_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2008-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0002challenger_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2008-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0003challenger_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2008-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/0004challenger_chi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/07/dodge-challenger-srt8-sports-g-meter-built-in-0-60-timer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dodge Challenger SRT8 sports G-meter, built-in 0-60 timer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/07/dodge-challenger-srt8-sports-g-meter-built-in-0-60-timer/">Dodge Challenger SRT8 sports G-meter, built-in 0-60 timer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 07 May 2008 11:57:00 EST. <p>As expected, the entire first-year production run of 6,400 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/06/chicago-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/">Dodge Challenger SRT8</a> models has sold out. The purchase slots for <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/08/report-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-not-sold-out-but-bring-your/">2008 models were in short supply two months ago</a> when we reported that more than 10,000 orders had been placed for the 425-hp muscle car. You can still give your dealer all the coins in your piggy bank, but the money goes on the hood of 2009 model, scheduled to arrive this fall.</p>
<p>If the thought of missing out on one of these rare 2008-model HEMI-powered beasts is keeping you up at night and you just can't wait for next year, there's always eBay. Although Chrysler tried to dissuade dealers from gouging, more than two dozen of the $37,995 (base MSRP) cars have been put on the auction site -- mostly by speculating dealers with prices in the mid-$50,000 range. Ah, the joys of a free market...</p>

The SRT chat session will take place tomorrow from 6 pm to 8 pm EST at <a href="http://www.300cforums.com/forums/srt-engineer-q-area/54050-srt-q-session-3-12-08-6pm-8pm-est.html">300cforums.com</a>, where members can submit a maximum of two questions each to be answered by Dodge's in-house tuners. While the topics of conversation will generally center around the LX platform and the SRT models on which they're based, this will be the first time that engineers will be able to answer questions about the Challenger SRT8 in an enthusiast forum. You can log on two hours before the discussion begins to start submitting questions and for those of you planning to attend, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tips/">drop us a line</a> if anything juicy appears.<br /><br />Thanks for the heads-up Jay.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/">2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/0_achallengersrt8-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/0_achallengersrt8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/1_achallengersrt8-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/1_achallengersrt8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/6_achallengersrt8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/11/srt-engineers-ready-to-take-questions-about-dodge-challenger/">SRT engineers ready to take questions about Dodge Challenger</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 18:02:00 EST. No, not here's-a-few-more-official-press-pics, but the actual latest challenger to the modern day retro muscle car. It was presented by Jim Press, who even made a Prius joke before launching into a passionate pitch for the orange-and-black-striped car. And even though you're drowning in info on a car you still can't buy, there were some specifics added: 0-60 in 4.9 seconds and a 170-MPH top speed; the quarter mile goes by in 13.9 seconds; 4-pot Brembo brakes go on 14.2-inch rotors up front and 13.8-inch rotors in back, and will stop you from 60 in 110 feet; performance and braking together adds up to 0-100-0 in 16.5 seconds; and the skidpad number: 0.9 g's.

<p>So how's it really look? Just as good as in the photos. Better even. The lines are so simple that you realize you haven't missed anything when you get up next to it. As for the orange and striped car, however, when a black <em>and</em> a silver one showed up with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chicago-2008-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-live-reveal/626671/">guys from Orange County Choppers</a>... well, sign us up for the black.</p>

It's always hard to get a read on the real-world look and feel of the interior plastics, but from what we can make out amidst the dither, all is not lost when it comes to the Challenger's front office. In these pictures, the interior looks very presentable, though it seems to be pretty standard LX fare. The SRT8 models get nicely trimmed seats, with contrasting french stitching on the deep bolsters, suede inserts to grip your backside, and a nice splash of orange to set off the SRT logo. Lesser Challengers will obviously not get quite the full boat luxe treatment that the SRT gets, with its MyGig, bespoke gauges, and leather adornments, but just what will get pulled out remains to be seen. The Mustang and Camaro might have more exciting designs, but the ergonomics and controls in the revived Dodge ponycar look well thought out. We've breathed a half-sigh of relief after our last round of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/27/reader-spy-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-interior/">interior spy shots</a>, which left some of us certain that the Challenger's interior was going to be bested by what came in the unlamented K-Cars. <em>Thanks for the tip, indymcsc!</em><br /><br />[Source: Allpar]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8/low/">2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/interior_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/dashboard_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/seats_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/dg008_029cl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/dg008_011cl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/05/2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-interior-pics-leaked/">2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 interior pics leaked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 11:02:00 EST. The stereo isn't on. The car isn't even running. But you hear that song quite clearly as you approach this wagon. Yep, you heard that right. It's a badass wagon we're talking about. Think that's an oxymoron? Think again. Even if it wasn't as black as Satan's pupils, it would still qualify as evil looking. But this particular sample is black and therefore perfect. So sinister and muscular and functional.<br /><br />We'll admit that wagons aren't everybody's first choice for a cool conveyance, but if utility is high on your list of priorities, they have SUVs and vans beat by a mile in our book. Wagons offer just as much cargo room without sacrificing a car's typically better ride, handling, braking and acceleration. Think of this Dodge Magnum SRT8 as a Charger with a really big trunk. So the car is pretty capable to begin with. <br /><br />These LX cars have been quite successful for Chrysler, and for good reason. Based on an older E-Class Mercedes platform, they offer rear-drive, full-size comfort in a more refined package than many American buyers are used to. All that at a bargain basement price too. The Hemi versions in particular offer a lot of bang for the buck. But when you add the SRT badge, things suddenly get more than a little wicked. Chrysler has promised a freshened Magnum for 2008, but when we got the call to drive a 2007, we still felt compelled to give it a whirl. Follow the jump to come along for the ride.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-magnum-srt8/low/">Dodge Magnum SRT8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-magnum-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/dodgemagnumsrt8---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-magnum-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/dodgemagnumsrt8---2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-magnum-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/dodgemagnumsrt8---3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-magnum-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/dodgemagnumsrt8---4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-magnum-srt8/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/dodgemagnumsrt8---5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/09/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-dodge-magnum-srt8-is-bad-to-the-bon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8 is bad to the bone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/09/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-dodge-magnum-srt8-is-bad-to-the-bon/">In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8 is bad to the bone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 09 Apr 2007 13:07:00 EST. The trademark crosshair grille is present and accounted for, albeit a bit more subdued<br /><br />In the rear, new tail lamps and a slightly modified rear bumper are the only significant changes.<br /><br />As for motivation, the SRT8 gets the 6.1-liter HEMI V8, producing 425 HP and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, which, according to Dodge, should dispatch the sprint to 60 in just a few hairs over five seconds.<br /><br />The full press release can be viewed after the jump and be sure to check out our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-magnum-and-srt-8/">gallery</a> for all your nitpicking needs.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-magnum-and-srt-8/124097/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/dg008_012ma_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-magnum-and-srt-8/124098/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/dg008_017ma_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-magnum-and-srt-8/124102/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/dg008_014ma_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-magnum-and-srt-8/124089/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/dg008_001ma_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-dodge-magnum-and-srt-8/124093/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/dg008_007ma_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/09/detroit-auto-show-dodge-magnum-r-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit Auto Show: Dodge Magnum R/T</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/09/detroit-auto-show-dodge-magnum-r-t/">Detroit Auto Show: Dodge Magnum R/T</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 09 Jan 2007 01:26:00 EST. You all know from the 300 Touring: It's a Dodge Magnum with the Chrysler 300's face, sold exclusively in non-North American markets. (In fact, it's making its debut in Japan later this week.)<br /><br />The SRT version drops in the 425-horse 6.1L HEMI and applies the sedan's visual panache to make one helluva swanky wagon. The SRT8 treatment on the Chrysler 300 gives it the look of a linebacker in a business suit -- elegance wrapped around muscle. On the flipside, the wonderfully evil-looking <a href="http://www.dodge.com/autoshow/magnum_srt8/index.html">Magnum SRT8</a> looks like a linebacker on gameday -- all muscle, a head full of steam,&nbsp; and it wants to kick your candy ass. Fun!<br /><br />The 300C SRT8 Touring will be built in Graz, Austria and should start becoming available in Europe sometime during the second half of 2006, which officially started last week. Any day now... <br /><br />In the meantime, we can ogle the pretty pictures after the jump.<br /><br />(Press release, pics after the jump)<br /><br />[Source: DaimlerChrysler]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/06/just-for-fun-chrysler-300c-srt8-touring/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Photo Fun: Chrysler 300C SRT8 Touring</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/06/just-for-fun-chrysler-300c-srt8-touring/">Photo Fun: Chrysler 300C SRT8 Touring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 06 Jul 2006 12:56:00 EST. <p>As Esquire magazine appears to have forgotten to post its "<em>10 Most Awesome Autos</em>"
feature from its May issue online, Terry Box at the Dallas Morning News has been kind enough to accommodate list
fanatics. The men's magazine actually made a pretty good show of picking its 10 favorite cars under $50,000. No
defining criteria other than price and editorial opinion appears to have been employed, so take these for whatever
they're worth. In no particular order and without further delay, the envelope, please ...</p>
