Spy photographer Jim Dunne has spent 28 years of his life shooting vehicles that weren't necessarily meant to be seen. For that reason, Dunne and automakers probably don't always get along all that well, but the longtime spy photographer got together with General Motors to discuss the cat and mouse game played between OEMs and the spy shooters. That's a fun story, but the real carrot is that the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is the subject matter for the video.

Hit the jump to watch the nearly three-minute-long video. The entire clip is shot with a well-disguised 2013 Malibu in plain sight, and you can plainly see HID headlights plus some of the contour lines that will make up Chevrolet's next-generation sedan.
This time The General shows that the MyLink infotainment screen can flip out, revealing considerable storage room for your tech toys. Check out all the teaser pics in the gallery below. GM will unveil the 2011 Malibu on Facebook on April 19, and we expect to see the car in person at the upcoming New York Auto Show.

The news media has turned its empty head to the deeper world of automotive coverage, beyond the front lines of dismal sales numbers and Cash For Clunkers.

None other than spy photographer extraodinaire Brenda Priddy has now been on the receiving end of the gentle, semi-informative coverage mainstream news is so deft at cranking out. A quick package on ABC's flagship World News Tonight broadcast was but a precursor to a more in-depth piece on Nightline that blows Brenda's cover and profiles her hard work in the searing desert heat. Hit the jump to view both videos. Thanks for all your tips!

[Source: ABC News]

Shoor looks like it, Jan. Lutz will be asking you to kiss this thing when it comes out from under that checkerboard camo. The current Astra is good, and the new one promises to be better, with looks that aren't revolutionary, but nicely done nonetheless. We'll see this world car version of the Astra sometime around 2011 with a variety of drivetrains, including hybrid power. The C-Pillar remains obscured, leaving our curiosity about the hatch's ultimate form unfulfilled. From what we can see, though, the new Astra will be like the current Astra - competitively styled and priced.

[Source: autoblog.nl]

Spy Shots: Opel Astra caught originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Aug 2008 09:28:00 EST. After the retirement of Jim Dunne, a thorn in the side of Detroit's finest for decades, comes word that Hans Lehmann, the man that's enraged his fair share of automakers abroad, is hanging up his Nikon.

Lehmann's ability to capture all the happenings on the Nurburgring solidified his place in spy photographer infamy and in several circles, is credited with causing automakers to deliberately run their camo'd mules on the 'Ring, hoping to catch Lehmann's lens.

While it's sad to see this legend of automotive espionage move onto greener pastures, we're comfortable with the knowledge that in this new media landscape, thousands of camera-toting pistonheads and their professional counterparts will continue to provide us with the images we love to obsess over. The players might be changing, but the game remains the same. Let the good times roll.

UPDATE: Brenda Priddy took the time to inform us that Lehmann Photo Syndication is still in existence, but was bought out when Mr. Lehmann retired. So you'll still see the name on photos, but not because Hans was behind the lens.

[Source: Autoweek]
'Ring spy needed: Hans Lehmann out of the spy photog game originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 17 Apr 2008 15:36:00 EST.
If Michael Man were to do a film about spy photographers (of the automotive variety) from a script written by Mamet or Soderbergh, this would be it. Called The Illusive and brought to you by the folks at Mercedes, it's about spy photographer trying to get shots of Merc's wares and the Merc "agent" who's thwarting him. It's sultry, it's European, and there's an SLR Roadster in there, an inexplicably angry French waiter, as well as a few goats.

The film is part of Mercedes' branding efforts, in an attempt to draw a younger -- dare we say it -- slicker, crowd. It's a fun watch, and only about a dozen minutes long. Based on what we've heard of spy photography, though, it's not a documentary. We imagine that the folks at KGP, Priddy, Doane and co. wish they retired every evening to swank French restaurants for Chateaubriand and chianti

He stumbled upon a 2008 Ford Super Duty F-250 Powerstroke in a parking lot and started snapping away. The driver eventually returned and this is where Doane's day took a sharp turn towards the bizarre and frightening. The driver in question, who our sources tell us is indeed a Ford employee, snapped a synapse and chased Doane on public roads for a half an hour, including following him in and out of parking lots, tailgating him while running through highway traffic, and nearly swallowing his car in the gaping maw of the F-250's grille at stoplights.

To hear it in Doane's own words is a treat, and you can do so here. As for the Ford employee who lost control of his 'roid rage, it's just a 2008 Super Duty, man. Chill. We've got three posts up linking to spy shots of the next F-350 here, here and here. It's not like you were driving a C1 Focus or next-gen Mustang.

Thanks SobeSVT for the tip!

[Source: Cheers and Gears]
Ford employee chases spy photographer in 2008 F-250 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 20 Jul 2006 20:01:00 EST.
