What Honda hasn't offered in the U.S. in more than a decade is a wagon body style. That looks like it might change by the end of 2009. Apparently, the gang in East Liberty, Ohio is cooking up a challenger for the Toyota Venza, Nissan Murano, and Subaru Outback. The mule that has been spotted uses the body of the European market Accord Sport Tourer (aka wagon) with the front clip of the current North American Market Accord.

It's not clear if this is the final body style that will appear, but the car actually has quite handsome proportions. Power will likely come from either the current Accord 2.4-liter four and 3.5-liter V6 engines, or possibly the Acura RDX 2.3L turbo. It's unfortunate that the 2.2L i-DTEC diesel is dead in the water for America because that would actually be an ideal candidate for such a vehicle. John Mendel, executive vice-president of American Honda confirmed to a dealer meeting over the weekend that a new product is coming for the brand this fall. The new CUV is expected to debut at the LA Auto Show in November.

[Source: Temple of VTEC]
Spy shots: New Accord based CUV could arrive by the end of the year originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 11:26:00 EST. The po-po were called last August to begin an investigation because the magazine published detailed photos of the coming Renault Megane, which Renault said wasn't supposed to hit showrooms for another three years. The raid was the next step in the Sherlock Holmes treatment.

Renault, of course, says that it is not after the press, it's simply trying to protect its intellectual property. The shots are so clear, and there are so many of them -- including the interior -- that it's obviously an inside job. The press, of course, feels that this is an attack on its freedom. The French press and the French government are engaged in a complicate dance, and this doesn't help things.

The police removed one reporter and a passel of computers. They don't want the reporter, though, they want the source. Auto Plus will have to wait to find out how much of that ever gets returned. But since the photos are out, we might as well take the time to say it's a nifty looking little car.

[Source: Reuters]
French auto-journo hauled off for espionage originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 16:18:00 EST. With so many other pots on the boil, like the XF-R and the new XJ, the XK-R is going the subtle route when it comes to changes. Up front, new intakes will be fitted under the headlights, while out back LED tail lights will be fitted in place of the standard units. One change we are most excited to hear about is the swap from a telescoping aerial to a shark fin on the deck lid. On the convertible, the raised aerial caused all kinds of wind noise, which, frankly, was unacceptable on a $100K car. Inside you'll find, ta-da, Jaguar Drive. The final version of Jaguar's hottest kitten will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show.

[Source: World Car Fans]
Spy Shots: 2009 Jaguar XKR originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 04 Jul 2008 13:31:00 EST.
