The Caresto V8 Speedster joins the VÖX-Amazon in adding some serious old-time flavor to the otherwise C30-dominated Volvo booth. Lovingly crafted out of carbon fiber and aluminum the Speedster is powered by a mid-mounted 4.4L Volvo V8 that's been converted to run on ethanol. It's good for 340 horsepower on the alterna-fuel and 315 on regular gas.

Tufvesson wanted this rod to be a real driver's car, and with it's 60/40 rear/front weight distribution and Öhlin's sport suspension, he achieves said objective. In that sense, the Caresto V8 Speedster is such a departure from the traditional hot rod, Tufvesson likes to refer to it as a "Sport Rod." Works for us. Hot rod looks blended with sports car performance (and a "green" angle to boot) is a winner in our book. Currently only two of these Caresto Speedsters exist -- the blue one at SEMA and a red one in Sweden (which is also featured in the promotional video after the jump).

Tufvesson has expressed a desire to build a few more examples of it. If you want one, expect to pony up the Swedish equivalent of $330,000.

(Photos, video, and a press release all after the jump)

[Source: Volvo]
Continue reading SEMA: Caresto V8 Speedster - Hot Rod, reinvented?

SEMA: Caresto V8 Speedster - Hot Rod, reinvented? originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 01 Nov 2006 07:54:00 EST.
