According to Daimler's release, the company's 19.9% stake in Chrysler will be redeemed and Daimler write off a $1.5 billion loan which will help (if it can) avoid putting Chrysler into bankruptcy and facilitate the automaker's deal with Fiat. The agreement is likely to reduce Daimler's second-quarter earnings (before interest and taxes) by around $700 million, however, the German giant had already written down its stake in Chrysler last year. The agreement also includes Daimler paying $200 million into Chrysler's pension plans once the agreements are definitive, and another $200 million each year until 2011. All the gritty details are available in the press release below the fold.<br /><br />[Image: Bill Pugliano/Getty]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/daimler-agrees-to-give-up-remaining-stake-in-chrysler/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Daimler agrees to give up remaining stake in Chrysler</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/daimler-agrees-to-give-up-remaining-stake-in-chrysler/">Daimler agrees to give up remaining stake in Chrysler</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 18:32:00 EST. Volkswagen originally had these promotional toasters done up for its Japanese operation. Buy a new VW or bring your VeeDub in for an inspection, get a toaster. While supplies last, of course. There were only 5,000 produced, and fans of splitties and air-cooled VWs in general are rightfully nutso for them. We're not sure if the 100-volt wiring for the Japanese consumer will be okay on the slightly higher voltage here in the US, but if you torch your house after spending at least $250 on the toaster, please don't hold us responsible. Just in time for Christmas, the ultimate culinary delight for Volkswagen fans. What better way to augment a nice <em>Fr&uuml;hst&uuml;ck</em> of <a href="http://www.mrbreakfast.com/superdisplay.asp?recipeid=1016">Hazelnussomeletten</a> than with some VW-logo toast? <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Volkswagen-Mini-bus-toaster-Japanese-beyond-cool_W0QQitemZ170169027017QQihZ007QQcategoryZ35938QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">eBay</a> via GermanCarScene.com]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-split-window-bus-toaster/low/">VW Split Window Bus toaster</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-split-window-bus-toaster/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/d176_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-split-window-bus-toaster/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/d536_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-split-window-bus-toaster/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/d94d_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-split-window-bus-toaster/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/ded7_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-split-window-bus-toaster/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/e352_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/20/ebay-find-of-the-day-vw-toaster-van/">eBay Find of the Day: VW Toaster Van</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2007 18:38:00 EST. Dieter Zetsche and company are reportedly in it for the long haul and fighting the good fight for Chrysler, but investors cite thin patience while waiting for a profit. Rumors of potential suitors waiting in the wings abound, but it seems that the real problem would be salability due to large pension commitments. Some have gone as far as speculating that even if Chrysler were to be put on the block, nobody would buy them. Of course, some of this situation seems to have been brought on by feeble cross-pollination, far below what was bandied about at the time of the 1998 merger. Sure, Chrysler got the old E Class platform to go play with, and the first-gen SLK is holding up the Crossfire, but there hasn't been any technology transfer from the smaller Mercedes vehicles to help DCX build a small car that's killer, or from their world-class truck division. One wonders if Chrysler's actually in the worst shape of the big three, but hiding it well. Are we in for a replay of the early '80s?<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://today.reuters.com/news/articleinvesting.aspx?type=mergersNews&amp;storyID=2006-11-28T153245Z_01_L28170659_RTRIDST_0_DAIMLERCHRYSLER-CHRYSLER.XML">Reuters</a> via Automotive News - Sub.
