Remember last Tuesday when we told you that a new episode of The List was going to air on Speed that night? Yeah, well... sorry about that. Scheduling snafu. But Autoblog's series is back on network television tonight after a week off for special programming.

This week's episode of The List on Speed brings together two segments of the series that highlight some unique forms of four-wheeled competition. The first is the 24 Hours of LeMons, in which hosts Jessi Combs and Patrick McIntyre compete on a team that dredged the depths of British automotive history to find their race cars.

The second segment, meanwhile, has J and P in upstate New York on a frozen lake to freeze their buns off while watching Engadget Editor-in-Chief Tim Stevens go ice racing in stock Subaru WRX. Of course, their job is to participate, so we don't let them leave the lake until they've gone head-to-head on the ice themselves. Be sure to tune in or set your DVR for 10:30pm Eastern tonight - or better yet, start it at 10pm and catch the latest episode of our sister show, Translogic!

As we announced last week, The List will be making its national television debut on Speed tonight at 10:30 PM EST/PST!

Make sure you're in front of the flat screen or have your DVR set to record our little program's big night. Jessi and Patrick are already working on new episodes for the second season, but we can't wait to see their adventures from the first season reimagined for the small screen.

Don't forget that our sister show, Translogic is also makings its premiere on Speed tonight at 10:00 PM EST/PST. The two shows will then appear on Speed with new episodes every Tuesday night at 10:00 and 10:30 PM EST/PST going forward.

Many thanks need to be shared with the people at AOL and Speed who helped make this partnership a reality, as well as with you, the readers of Autoblog who've become viewers of The List and Translogic this past year as we've worked to bring you the best original video series possible. Thanks again, and enjoy the show!
Autoblog's The List premieres on Speed tonight! originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 15:30:00 EST. The car-centric cable channel will also air half-hour episodes of our sister show, Translogic, at 10:00 PM EST and PST. Consider it the AOL Autos/Autoblog Power Hour on Speed.

We were very honored many months ago when Speed approached us about converting The List into a TV show, and couldn't be happier that its premiere, along with that of Translogic, is less than a week away. After next week's premiere, new episodes will air every Tuesday at the same time each week.

If you've been watching the show on Autoblog, these initial half-hour episodes of The List on Speed might be ones you've already seen, since the first season of the show as it appeared on the website has been deftly converted into episodes that will work on the small screen. Partnerships like this, however, as well as the show's new sponsor, Allstate, have allowed us to start shooting new episodes for the second season, all of which will debut here on Autoblog first. In fact, Jessi and Patrick are in Alaska checking off a list item as we speak.

It's great recognition for us and the show's producers at AOL Studios that Speed saw something special in The List and Translogic (this is the first time ever that AOL's premium original video content will be televised), and we're so excited to share this series that we had so much fun making with an entirely new audience. Be sure to check out the premiere this Tuesday, February 5 at 10:30 PM EST/PST!
Continue reading Set Your DVRs! Autoblog's The List to be broadcast on Speed

Set Your DVRs! Autoblog's The List to be broadcast on Speed originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 30 Jan 2013 15:59:00 EST. According to SB Nation, this could be a bad sign for motorsports fans as it seems to verify rumors that Fox is on the verge of changing Speed into an all-sports network like ESPN.

Although we're thankful that the channel never completely turned into the 24-hour NASCAR channel as was evidently intended when Fox took over in 2001, it has become a go-to channel for all things motorsports from the mainstream to the offbeat. Speed has already expanded its broadcasting to include reality shows like Pass Time, Pinks and Hard Parts: South Bronx, but it is also the only place to find coverage for racing series such as Australian V8 Supercar, Formula One Racing and Grand-Am.

The Wall Street Journal says that converting Speed to a sports network would allow the company to capitalize on a new eight-year deal it just worked out with Major League Baseball that would allow for better distribution of games among cable and satellite companies. Only time will tell what as to what becomes of Speed, but for fans of motorsports coverage, things aren't looking good.
Speed to veer away from cars, turn into all-sports network? originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 10 Oct 2012 13:31:00 EST.

The Car Show - Click above for our high-res image gallery

Comparisons are both unavoidable and inevitable. Tomorrow evening, SPEED debuts its all-new and highly anticipated weekly automotive television series, The Car Show. Hosted by comedian and car buff Adam Carolla, with co-hosts Dan Neil, Matt Farah and John Salley, the self-touted "ultimate car lover's show" will be scrutinized from set design to sign-off as viewers attempt to parallel its agenda and personality with the BBC UK's wildly popular Top Gear and the more recent domestically sourced Top Gear USA show from The History Channel.

The glue that will need to hold the show together is the chemistry between the hosts.

After a day spent on the set at 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles last week, we left smiling and very impressed.

As expected, a decent chunk of the production is filmed outside the studio. The venues vary from public roads to race tracks (both concrete and dirt in this particular episode) and other interesting gathering spots (Carolla interviews several amusing civilians and delivers some good laughs at the Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show). However, the glue that will need to hold the show together (and keep viewers from channel surfing over to Mythbusters) is the chemistry between the hosts back in the studio. They've got a good shot at this - these guys are a witty and amusing cast of characters.

Our take is that The Car Show is a clever blend of unscripted individuality. It is a carefully calculated mix of The Man Show humor, The Smoking Tire rambunctiousness, The Wall Street Journal objectiveness and the curiosity of the The Best Damn Sports Show Period. Bring out Peter Brock with his stunning Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe MKII, a live interview with Dario Franchitti and some special guests and the hour becomes even more compelling.

We've been hearing about Adam Carolla's The Car Show for months, and we can now confirm that the show has been picked up by SPEED Channel. The folks at SPEED dropped us a line to let us know that the show has been picked up for 13 episodes, with an option for 13 more. The hour-long show, which is scheduled for a July premiere, will be hosted by Adam Carolla, super auto journalist Dan Neil, former NBA player John Salley and Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire. SPEED hasn't even released a press release yet, but we'll get something official once the show's July production schedule is fleshed out.

We told you back in December that Carolla's show will feature news and car conversations plus the typical pre-recorded features. And don't get too attached to The Car Show as the show's name, as SPEED tells us that there is a good chance it will change. The show will be produced by Mandt Bros. Productions.

We're not sure how this show will turn out, but you can bet that we'll be watching when it hits the airwaves in July.

SPEED is looking to revamp its program lineup as it enters its 15th year on the air. One of the programs that's set to hit televisions is called American Truckers. Hosted by Rob Mariani, the series looks at iconic rigs, amazing routes and the people who make up the industry. To kick off the series, the crew of American Truckers has decided to get down to business and re-create a route with which most of your are familiar: the epic 1,800-mile beer run from Smokey and the Bandit.

The first and most important part of the journey (besides the beer, of course) is making sure they have the right vehicles. Bud Brutsman, producer of American Truckers, Rides, Overhaulin' (the list goes on...), and his crew acquired a 1974 Kenworth W900 Snowman tribute truck. Year One stepped up to the plate and handed over the keys to a resto-mod 1978 Pontiac Trans-Am. The Bandit car is packing a 605-horsepower LS7 engine with a five-speed transmission, Baer six-piston calipers on 14-inch front and rear rotors and a roll-cage with a five-point racing harness.

Vehicles in order, the team set out on their journey from Atlanta with their sights set on Texarkana. How'd they fare? Read on to find out...
Right now, Speed has 20 new shows in development and six of those are ready to show up in your DVR in 2011.

We know that Adam Carolla is working on a show that would be an automotive version of The Best Damn Sports Show Period. Other items in the works include a series of specials with Jay Leno, a reality series based on Gran Turismo 5 (produced in cooperation with Sony and Nissan) and a Gymkhana program to be helmed by The Fast and the Furious Producer/DIrector Adam Cohen.

Those represent part of the growing projects currently under development. These six new shows are ready to by slotted into the lineup (titles subject to change):

-Car Warriors: Think Joes vs Pros but for car construction. A team of average folks square off against all-star builders and their work will be judged by George Barris, Jimmy Shine and Mad Mike Martin.

-American Truckers: Rob Mariani talks about iconic rigs, amazing routes and unique cargo tales. Kind of a niche audience here but the "iconic rigs" could be interesting.

-Car Science: The producers of Sports Science and Fight Science have turned their attention to automobiles.

-Speedmakers: Surprisingly not a Breaking Bad rip-off, but an examination of anything that makes speed possible. The show will examine the Daytona International Speedway, go behind the scenes at Aston Martin and will generally focus on engineering feats designed to maximize speed.

-Ticket to Ride with Dan Neil: Pulitzer-prize winner Dan Neil turns his column into a television show. If Speed lets him handle the writing, this one could prove quite interesting.

-The 10: This one is for the NASCAR fans. The 10 will highlight the best that NASCAR has served up over the years with topics such as Most Bizarre Finishes, All-Time Races, Throw-downs and Closest Calls.
Well, here's some potentially good news: Speed Channel has reportedly inked a deal with Mandt Bros. Productions to pilot a new automotive television series (currently untitled) hosted by Adam Carolla, Pulitzer-winning journalist Dan Neil, former NBA 'baller John Salley and Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire.

Consider our interest piqued by the cast alone. We've seen Carolla do his thing - including witnessing the taping of the un-aired pilot for the defunct NBC Top Gear project, which has nothing to do with the current iteration on History - and he definitely knows and loves cars.

Moving past the headline-generating Adam Carolla, we've long been fans of Dan Neil, and John Salley was rather good on The Best Damn Sports Show Period. Finally, Farah has carved out a nice niche and has garnered a fan base of his own on The Smoking Tire.

As far as the show's format goes, it sounds similar to the Top Gear model with "news and conversation centered around cars, as well as pre-recorded features shot on the road." It could be interesting, but we'll take our usual wait-and-see approach...

It's a question which stirs up deep emotions in most automotive enthusiasts. No, it's not Porsche versus Ferrari, Senna versus Schumacher or Jeep against Land Rover. The question that causes serious debate boils down to one sentence - what is the best movie car chase of all time? SPEED is going to count down the greatest that Hollywood has to offer during a two-hour special running Thanksgiving day. The show is a platform to show-off the channel's newest contest, the return of the SPEED Dream Ride in the form of the SPEED Dream Ride 2.

The SPEED Dream Ride 2 is a sweepstakes-style contest with an excellent grand prize. Five winners and their guests will get to experience the VIP treatment at Infineon Raceway, in Sonoma, California. While at the track, winners will get to ride shotgun with Mario Andretti in a two-seat Indy car, Kyle Petty in a NASCAR stock car, Jason Pridmore on a two-up MotoGP sportbike and get sideways with Tanner Foust on a drifting course. If riding riding in cars gets boring, the winners can take turns crushing cars behind the wheel of the Gravedigger monster truck. They'll also get seat time in a handful of exotics courtesy of World Class Driving. Appetite whetted? You can enter this contest starting on Thanksgiving Day by heading to SpeedDreamRide.com.

The TV show, called Hollywood's Hottest Car Chases, may just serve as a backdrop for the announcement of the dream ride contest, but we think it's a topic that can't be discussed enough. To get you ready for the show, we've placed three chase clips after the the jump along with the full press release for the SPEED Dream Ride 2 contest.

In what's being billed as the World Cup of Motor Sport, A1GP has signed a deal with the SPEED Channel to cover the remaining nine of its twelve races that make up the 2006-07 season. Beginning yesterday with coverage of the Sepang, Malaysia event run on November 28, coverage will continue through to the April 2007 finale in Brands Hatch, Great Britain. The series prides itself as being "the first opportunity in any area of motorsport for nations to compete on a level playing field." On the podium the winning nation raises its flag in celebration.

A1GP open wheel racecars feature chassis designed by Lola Engineering and carbon fiber bodies. The powertrain consists of a 3.4-liter V8 engine making 520 horsepower. Shifting through the gears is performed by an electronically automated paddle shift system attached to the side of the steering wheel. With this system, a driver can shift gears in 40 milliseconds, meaning a four-gear downshift can be performed in less than one second. Zytek Engineering produces both the engine and transmission.

Open wheel racing in equal cars with a high percentage of rookie drivers should produce some pretty exciting racing between the wrecks. The idea of racing for your country definitely presents a whole new outlook on the sport that may be able to draw some attention from the patriotic off-season NASCAR fans as they look to get their fix until Daytona in February. Of course, scoring airtime on SPEED doesn't hurt, either.

The list is comprised of responses from a group of automotive journalists and SPEED on-air personalities and was compiled in conjunction with the network's ten-year anniversary (has it been that long already?). The top spot is occupied by the price of gasoline rising above $3/gallon with the fall of domestic automakers following close behind. The list in its entirety is as follows.

1. Gasoline tops $3 a gallon
2. Fall of domestic dominance
3. Dale Earnhardt crash at Daytona
4. Retro-inspired cars
5. eBay Motors
6. Barrett-Jackson Auctions
7. Ford vs. Firestone
8. Comeback of the Mini
9. Boom of the Supercars
10. "Trick", "Dub", "Pimp" and Whip"

So what's missing? There's no mention of the sport compact craze, Ford's Mustang surviving the great muscle car massacre, the return of Bob Lutz, the Koreans coming on strong. What else is missing?

[Source: Sports Car Network]
Top Ten... auto-related stories of the past decade originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Jun 2006 16:39:00 EST.
