BMW's official unveiling ceremony isn't until Monday, but a few authentic shots of the all-new "F10" BMW 5 Series are floating around cyberspace. These three low resolution images only give us a frontal glimpse of the upcoming 5 Series sedan, apparently as it does a dress rehearsal for its big show at the beginning of the week.

Our first sans-camouflage observation says it looks much like the 5 Series GT, its close sibling (nobody was expecting any radical styling departure anyway). Thanks to its "sport sedan" role, the new 5 Series four-door sports a slightly more aggressive flair to its front facade and side styling. In case you were wondering, the little black buttons just ahead of the front wheels are side view cameras, just like those found on the 7 Series. We'll reserve further judgment until Monday, when they pull the rest of the tarp off. Thanks for the tip, Brandon!
We had our money on Car and Driver spilling the beans, but an eagle-eyed member of the G8board.com forum managed to grab these screen shots of the jumbotron erected in Pontiac's display at the Chicago Auto Show. The huge screen was running through its video of the Aussie-sourced, rear-wheel drive G8 sedan right in front of a webcam that is set up to capture images of the South Hall at McCormick Place. There are more than a few pics, most showing little bits here and there of this most highly anticipated Pontiac sedan... except for the one above, which shows the car in all its glory. Other pics, including one of the car's rear that show taillights creeping up onto the decklid, confirm that the G8 is a rebadged version of the Commodore SS-V wearing wheels from the ultra high-performance HSV GTS model. Enjoy, and thank to the boys and girls at G8board.com for the sneak peek.

Check out the rest of the pics in this gallery. Unlike Ford's event yesterday, the Chrysler Group featured only vehicles that are destined to be debuted on the auto show circuit this season, rather than visions of the future for 2008, 2009 and beyond. Nevertheless, everything we witnessed is embargoed at least until the Detroit show and later for some. Hopefully we won't get slapped for saying so, but the mood was positive in Chrysler's Design Dome as the press attended seem genuinely impressed with the majority of Chrysler's auto show lineup. There were certainly models we didn't see today that are being saved as suprises for the shows, but what we were privy to bodes well for The Chrysler Group. Of course, if other media outlets break the embargo you can bet we'll be all over it. Until then, our lips are sealed.
Chrysler Group Media Preview: We came, we saw, we can't say anything originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 13 Dec 2006 12:41:00 EST. In order to keep us interested, the General also released an official shot of the Malibu's interior, said to be dressed in one of the car's available two-tone color combinations. In fact, Ed Peper, Chevy's General Manager, says in the press release that the Malibu, "will offer a number of striking and progressive interiors." That certainly sounds like Chevy may be offering more than one interior for the Malibu, much like with the new Chevy Silverado that offers two totally different interiors, one in which luxury is paramount and another for the worker bee. That speculation aside, the interior we see here features a dual cockpit design very reminiscent of the last generation Mustang's interior with two sweeping archs that define the driver and passenger space. We dig the rawhide red leather (check it out on the shifter) and matching dash panels, though one can never tell from a photo whether or not those large swaths of plastic feel rental car chintzy. The center stack features the new GM switchgear we've tested and liked in other cars, though the gauge pod buried within three deep cylinders looks like the similar kind used by Nissan of which we aren't so fond. All in all, however, color us impressed and now very anxious to see the whole car at the Detroit auto show in early January.

Check out the full press release offered by GM after the jump.

[Source: General Motors]
Continue reading 2008 Chevy Malibu bowing in January, interior pic released

2008 Chevy Malibu bowing in January, interior pic released originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 21 Nov 2006 14:32:00 EST. That's what current Ford workers and retirees will hear when they arrive at Cobo Arena in Detroit on November 27th and 28th to witness a sneak peek at their employer's lineup of vehicles extending all the way out to 2010. About 25,000 people are expected to attend six sessions Ford will be hosting, each showcasing future vehicles through the use of images, animations, short videos and actual vehicles. The idea is to restore the faith these workers and retirees have in Ford Motor Company by showing off the actual product that's being planned to turn the company around. Each person will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and no cameras, along with camera-equipped cell phones we presume, are allowed. There's not much we wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall of Cobo Arena during these preview sessions. What will they see? The 2010 Mustang? The next generation C1-based Focus? The F-150 that will tangle with the Tundra? Ford cleverly scheduled the event when most of the automotive press will be on its way to California for the L.A.
