There are many names you could associate with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang">Mustang</a> tuning, but few are as iconic as Steve <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/saleen">Saleen</a>. The American tuner extraordinaire made a name for himself tweaking the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/">Ford</a> muscle coupe under the Saleen brand until he left his own company to start <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sms">SMS Supercars</a>. But now that the two have been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/02/steve-saleen-reacquires-saleen-name-and-brand/">reunited</a>, word has it that Saleen is moving ahead with plans to produce a new mid-engine exotic to follow in the footsteps of the famed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/saleen+s7">S7</a>.<br />
<br />
Saleen, as you may recall, branched out of tuning pony cars with the S7 in 2000. The car packed a 7.0-liter V8 that was later twin-turbocharged up to 750 horsepower to make it good for a 0-60 run in under three seconds and a top speed of nearly 250 mph. The car endures as an American performance icon, but while an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/s5s">S5S Raptor</a> concept (pictured above) was showcased four years ago at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/new-york-auto-show/">New York Auto Show</a>, the schism between the two Saleen companies kept it from ever seeing the light of day.<br />
<br />
With that ugliness now behind us, however, <em>Autoweek</em> reports that Steve Saleen is intent on picking up where the S7 and S5S left off. Getting to that point is expected to take Saleen a while, but in the meantime, he's working at integrating the two operations. The SMS facility in California will continue building the cars - White Label for mild upgrades, Yellow Label for supercharged models and Black Label for the works - while his Saleen facility in Michigan will distribute the parts. You are looking at one of about 25 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/19/sms-supercars-previews-460-and-460x-mustangs/">2010 SMS 460 Mustangs</a> that Steve Saleen's new company <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/sms+supercars">SMS Supercars</a> is building. Why so few? Because production of the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/16/sms-supercars-pulls-the-wraps-off-2011-302-mustang/">SMS 302</a> that's based on the <a href="http://autoblog.com/ford/mustang+gt">2011 Mustang GT</a> and its <em>sweeeet</em> 5.0-liter V8 has already begun. However, that car's in the future - the SMS 460 is now. Sporting a supercharged V8 good for 470 horsepower and about 460 pound-feet or torque, a fully tweaked suspension and slick-looking body kit, the 2010 SMS 460 has plenty of curb and track appeal. Plus, with less than 25 cars left to purchase (you are looking at an already sold customer car, which is why we couldn't drive it), this is sure to be a Steve Saleen collector's item.<br />
<br />
Now, about the upcoming SMS 302; it should be a real humdinger and will be available as either a normally aspirated beast or supercharged monster(s). The "base" version should up the GT's already amazing numbers (412 horsepower, 390 pound-feet of torque) to around 450 hp/430 lb-ft. Again, that's without the aid of forced induction. Of course, there will be a supercharged SMS 302 or two prowling the streets as well. How much gumption? Figure it to be on par with the GT500, around 550 hp.<br />
<br />
Then of course there's the only-spoken-of-in-hushed-tones SMS 351X, which is sure to be a range topper's range topper. No final word yet, but SMS is hoping for about 665 hp and about the same amount of torque. Time to buy stock in a tire company as that's over 100 ponies <em>more</em> than the already unbelievably potent (and tire shredding) <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/shelby+GT500">2011 Shelby GT500</a>. Let's just end it by saying we can't wait to drive all three of 'em. For now, enjoy these pics.<br />

It's been nearly a year since <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/SMSSupercars/">SMS Supercars</a> first showed us a rendering of their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/19/sms-supercars-previews-460-and-460x-mustangs/">proposed 460 Mustang</a>. And we had nearly given up hope that it would ever come out. But sure enough, Steve Saleen and the rest of his crew have been hard at work developing the new SMS Mustang. That car, now named the 302 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang">Mustang</a> due to the V8's displacement change for 2011, was officially unveiled today at the company's headquarters in Corona, CA. <br />
<br />
Two separate versions of the 302 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang">Mustang</a> will be offered, including a naturally aspirated base 4V model and a supercharged 302SC Mustang. The 4V will produce 440 horsepower thanks to a few powertrain tweaks, while the supercharged model will boast 535 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. <br />
<br />
Both <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang">Mustangs</a> will have a slew of standard features including the new SMS body kit, hood with heat-extracting grilles, 20-inch wheels and tires, upgraded suspension and brakes, and numerous interior appointments including Alcantara seats, 200 mph gauges, short-throw shifter and more. The styling appears to be a mix of the previous generation Saleen <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang">Mustang</a>, also penned by SMS designer Phil Frank, along with the new design language featured on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/12/first-drive-sms-570x-makes-700-hp-gobs-more-joy/">SMS 570 Challenger</a>. We especially like the elongated rear end that helps hide the awkward taillights, although we would probably do away with the massive spoiler.<br />
<br />
As you'd expect from a Steve Saleen product, each model will offer impressive performance figures. SMS quotes a 0-60 mph time of under 4.5 seconds for the base 302 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang">Mustang</a> while the supercharged version can perform the same task in just 4.3 seconds. A higher performance model is also in the works, named the 351X Mustang, which we should learn more about in just a few months. <br />

Pricing for both models is just about what we would expect, which is fairly expensive. The 302 4V starts at $54,990 while the 302SC <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang">Mustang</a> will cost $64,990. Concerned that "gadgets and bells and whistles" are distracting drivers, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/11/detroit-2010-lahood-says-volt-obviously-the-kind-of-green-car/">Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood</a> is reportedly pushing to keep the technologies out of driver's hands - without going so far as to say he'll try to restrict them. LaHood, who has already campaigned for a ban on hand-held texting and cell phone use while operating a moving vehicle, says he is "going to talk to the car manufacturers and see where this leads."<br />
<br />
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009 nearly 6,000 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted or inattentive driver - and more than 800,000 vehicles are driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone each day. While the Department of Transportation intends to issue regulations in 2010 to discourage driving while distracted by technology, LaHood has gone several steps further by saying he is on a "rampage" against the behavior.<br />
<br />
This is likely a good time to remind everyone that a recent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that bans on hand-held cell phones in California, Connecticut, New York, and Washington D.C., <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/29/study-laws-banning-hand-held-phones-do-not-reduce-crashe/">had no impact on vehicle accidents</a> - LaHood attributes those results simply to complaisant enforcement by police agencies. <br />

Steve Saleen is continuing his foray into building specialty cars other than Mustangs, and after launching the production of its 570 and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/12/first-drive-sms-570x-makes-700-hp-gobs-more-joy/">570X Challenger</a> last year, his new company, SMS Supercars, has started the new year off right by releasing the first images of the upcoming 620 Camaro. <br />
<br />
Using the SS model with the 6.2-liter V8 as a starting platform, the SMS 620 Camaro features much of the same design elements as the Challenger including the side induction hood, five-spoke wheels, and Alcantara and leather seats. Power is increased via an SMS supercharger system that boosts the LS3 V8 to 575 horsepower and 600 pound-feet torque. Like the Challenger, an "X" model is also available that includes additional engine modifications good for 715 hp and 700 lb-ft torque as well as upgraded suspension, brakes, differential, and wheels. <br />
<br />
Like the SMS 460 Mustang, the 620 Camaro is currently only in illustrated form, but the production version should be ready sometime in the second quarter of 2010. You can find full details in the press release after the jump.<br />

During the course of a wide-ranging, more than two-hour long conversation, we asked racing legend, aftermarket impresario and SMS namesake Steve Saleen what's the single most important thing he wants Autoblog readers to know about not only his new 700-horsepower 570X, but about SMS as a whole. Normally, when the head of a company that takes existing cars and modifies them says something like that, you nod politely and draw your own conclusions. But in the case of Steve Saleen, you err on the side of trust. For one thing, he's been at this for 25 years - in fact, a 1984 Saleen Mustang just sold for $80,000. Compare that price to other 1984 Mustangs. For another, he's the man behind the Saleen S7, a totally bespoke beast of a machine that's one of the most dominant supercar-based race cars ever.<br />
<br />
Still, looking at the all-new SMS 570X, it's very hard not to see an aftermarket <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/dodge/challenger">Dodge Challenger</a>, albeit a heavily modified one. But keep on staring and you'll notice that not only are most of the body panels new, they're actually well constructed. More importantly, they fit together properly. And SMS cars come with actual warranties (three year/36,000 mile for the 570, one year/12,000 for the 570X) and have countless thousands of hours of R&amp;D behind them. But really, it's only once the 570X's hood gets popped that you suddenly realize this ain't no backyard tuner.<br />

With SMS Supercars recently launching the 570 Challenger and with a Mustang and Camaro, it was inevitable it would soon offer many of the parts individually. On the first day of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/SEMA/">SEMA</a> Steve Saleen and his new company announced Superparts, the aftermarket sales and distribution arm of SMS Supercars. Many of the parts on the 570 Challenger are now available individually, including the SMS 296 supercharger, aerodynamic parts, and suspension, wheel and tire packages. <br />

Also making its debut at the show is the new SMS 296 supercharger for the 2005-2010 Ford Mustang. The system uses many of the same core components from the Challenger kit, but has a few new features specific for the 4.6-liter V8. The most notable feature is the "Duo-Path" induction system that splits the incoming air starting at the throttle body, going around the supercharger housing to the back of the engine where it enters the rear intake of the compressor. Expected power will be in the 475-650 range depending on the package. <br />

It's tradition for Steve Saleen to hold his annual open house and car show at the end of the summer, and while he's no longer with the company he originally founded, that's not stopping him from holding the event. The new SMS Supercars facility in Corona, CA was completed just in time to host more than 100 Mustang and Challenger owners who got a first look at Steve's new headquarters this past weekend. <br />
<br />
SMS's chief creative officer Phil Frank showed us around the facility, which includes offices named after racetracks where the Saleen S7R has won, a production line that can complete 5-6 cars per week in its current state, R&amp;D departments, and more. Currently only the 570 Challenger is being built (a Mustang and a Camaro are on their way, and we spotted <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-sms-supercars-open-house-and-car-show/#41">two covered prototypes</a> tucked away in a corner of the building), including some with unique paint jobs like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-sms-supercars-open-house-and-car-show/#30">Lime Green</a>. We also have to say that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-sms-supercars-open-house-and-car-show/#37">Lizstick Red looks just as good on the Challenger</a> as it does on the Mustang. <br />
<br />
Frank also let us in on a few of the company's future plans, including the fact that SMS intends to build a new supercar from the ground up once the production of the Mustang and Camaro is underway. It is still undecided whether it will be a supercar like the S7 or something like a less expensive track day car, but either way we would be excited to see another unique car with Steve Saleen behind it. <br />
<br />
Although not as big as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/05/ahh-the-memories-saleens-irvine-assembly-plant-remembered-in/">Saleen's old Irvine facility</a> (let's call it more streamlined and efficient), the new SMS building has that same exciting atmosphere about it. We can definitely see ourselves stopping by every time we're in the area to see if we can spot any new cars or to check out the vehicles currently being built. Of course, we'll always have a camera in hand as we did today, so enjoy what will most likely be the first of many photos from the new SMS Supercars facility in the high-res gallery below. <br />

Take Sebastien Bourdais, for example, who claims that he was fired via SMS.<br /><br />The French racer, who dominated the Champ Car series in its final four years, didn't have as much luck in Formula One and was recently canned by Toro Rosso after failing to perform over the last two years. Bourdais sued Toro Rosso for breach of contract and reportedly <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/10/max-mosley-sebastien-bourdais-settle-individual-lawsuits/">settled out of court</a> for remaining salary plus $2 million in damages, but he's not done lashing out at the team for how they handled his termination. According to Bourdais, he received the official kiss-off by a simple text message. <br />It appears that even while <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/03/stand-up-move-steve-saleen-steps-in-to-honor-warrantees-from-hi/">covering Saleen, Inc's warranties</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/18/whats-in-a-name-sms-supercars-files-suit-against-mj-acquisitio/">protecting the brand image of his name</a>, Steve Saleen has still found the time to build cars. After launching the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/sms-570-challenger-has-a-coming-out-party/">570 Challenger back in January</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/new-york-steve-saleens-sms-570x-ups-the-ante-with-700-supercha/">570X Challenger at the New York Auto Show</a>, SMS has released additional renderings and information on its upcoming 460 and 460X Mustang. According to SMS, the car is in its final prototype testing changes and will hit the market some time later this year. <br /><br />From the look of the CAD illustrations, designer Phil Frank stuck to much of the styling cues that made the original S197 Saleen Mustangs so popular. The front end gets a blacked-out grille with horizontal bars and the SMS logo, a more aggressive front fascia, and a dual-vented hood. Side skirts lead into the diffuser-style rear fascia, and like the Saleen S281, the rear end is elongated and the taillights are recessed, complimented to a spoiler that follows the lines of the car. <br /><br />Performance upgrades sound like Saleen Mustangs of past as well. The supercharged 4.6-liter V8 produces either 470 or 655 horsepower, and each car gets upgraded brakes and suspension system including a Watts-linkage to help plant the solid rear axle. SMS claims the 460 Mustang will hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds while the 460X should do the deed in four seconds flat. Steve Saleen, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/15/steve-saleen-retires-from-saleen-inc/">who left Saleen, Inc. in the summer of 2007</a>, claims the lawsuit was filed to "continue to protect the name, reputation, and brand value of Steve Saleen, and to reassure his loyal customers, dealers, and car enthusiasts that only Steve Saleen's SMS Supercars performance vehicles and products are genuine and deserving to carry his name." Much of this statement can be attributed to both <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/09/report-saleen-inc-disolves-warranties-new-owner-takes-over/">Saleen, Inc's and MJ Acquisition's refusal to honor warranties</a> for vehicles and parts sold before the transfer of assets between the two companies. While SMS stepped in and admirably offered to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/03/stand-up-move-steve-saleen-steps-in-to-honor-warrantees-from-hi/">honor the warranties despite any lack of legal obligation</a>, this lawsuit is no doubt another push for Steve's new company to be the only one linked to his name. <br /><br />Interestingly, this lawsuit comes just days after <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090716/CARNEWS/907169991">AutoWeek reported that MJ Acquisitions planned to produce two new Mustangs under the Saleen brand in the next year</a>. Steve and SMS Supercars have already been busy launching products of their own, starting the with the 570 and 570X Challengers earlier this year, followed by the 460 and 460X Mustangs scheduled for a late 2009 debut. <div align="left">AB regulars will note that we just reported on the re-opening of the car-lover's dream store at the Irvine Spectrum in Southern California. We told you how the former <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/30/shop-with-saleen/">Saleen Store</a> had re-opened under the banner of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/16/saleen-retail-store-re-opened-as-concours-supercars/">Concours Supercars</a>, keeping much of the original shop's charms, but replacing all of the Saleen merchandise with multiple brands of auto-minded clothing, apparel and toys. One nod to the store's former owner was the Saleen Mustang parked inside. Well, cancel those plans to visit if you've already made them. The store is no more.<br /><br /><em>The</em> <em>Orange County Register</em> is reporting that the parent operation, Concours Supercars, has already shut the store's doors. Spokeswoman Kelly Rose Pion says the Irvine Spectrum location closed on June 17, about two months after it had opened because of "issues" with the company's main facility in Anaheim. Concours Supercars has had to "alter its business operations," according to Pion, and that meant closing the Irvine Concours Supercars store.<br /><br />Last we checked, the sign was still up and there was still merchandise on the shelves, so we'll have to see what comes next for this prime bit of retail space in the heart of car crazy SoCal. At least that's what Steve Saleen is hoping, and with his <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/03/stand-up-move-steve-saleen-steps-in-to-honor-warrantees-from-hi/">recent announcement regarding Saleen, Inc's warranties</a>, we're guessing many of his loyal customers will indeed come with money in hand to buy his new tricked-out ponycar. Not that people will buy the car based on reputation alone - SMS has made sure that its 460 Mustang has the proper credentials of a Steve Saleen creation. The exterior gets a full makeover including a new front fascia, Red Butterfly Air Induction hood, side splitters, rear fascia, and rear wing complemented by 20-inch, 5-spoke wheels. Two variants are available, a 460 Mustang and a 460X Mustang. The first features a 4.6L supercharged V8 putting out 470 horsepower mated to a 5-speed manual while the latter sports a 5.0L supercharged V8 producing 655 horsepower routed through a 6-speed manual. Both also feature several suspension upgrades including a new watts-linkage system and upgraded front and rear brakes. <br />Under the bright sunlight of the Javits Center's Crystal Palace atrium, Steve Saleen took the covers off of his latest creation, the SMS 570X. The Dodge Challenger-based muscle car registers a few rungs above the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/sms-570-challenger-has-a-coming-out-party/">570 that we first viewed at its Orange County unveiling</a> in January. Where that car was fitted with a 5.7-liter V8, the 570X utilizes a 6.0-liter engine, reportedly good for 700 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque - plenty of gumption to roast those wide and flat 20-inch meats. <br /><br />The engine includes lots of forged bits (pistons, crankshaft, con-rods, etc.) lurking beneath new CNC-ported aluminum heads. In addition, the 570X receives a SMST six-speed manual transmission and a high-performance cooling package. The heart of the car is a production version of the SMS 296 supercharger, the firm's new blower co-developed with Lysholm. Like Mopar muscle of yore, this system features a Six-Pack too - only in the SMS' case, it refers to a brace of cylindrical intercoolers. <br /><br />While the supercharger comes as part of the 570X package, it will also work on other Chrysler LX products including the Charger, Magnum, and Chrysler 300C. SMS also promises that "aftermarket fitments" are in the works for both Ford and General Motors products.<br /><br />Aesthetically, the X is nearly identical to the original 570, which is a good thing, because it looks sensational. From its "Red Butterfly" side-induction hood to its flared, vented fenders and new front fascia, the basic form looks spot-on. With its lowered stance, details like its GTX-style grille, fender vents, carbon-fiber splitter and side skirts, and rear spoiler, the 570X is at once classic Motown muscle and a thoroughly modern tuner car.<br /><br />As this car was just a prototype, there were some unfinished bits (off-kilter badges, hood fitment, etc.), but officials promise to get the production car right. After going broke and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/02/breaking-saleen-inc-sells-off-most-of-its-assets/">selling most of their assets</a>, Saleen Inc. announced that they were ceasing operations and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/09/report-saleen-inc-disolves-warranties-new-owner-takes-over/">would not be honoring existing warranties on cars and parts</a>. To make things worse, the new owner of the Saleen car and aftermarket lines, MJ Acquisitions, Inc., refused to take the responsibility as well, only honoring warranties on parts purchased after February 2, 2009. It appeared that Saleen owners were out of luck. Enter Steve Saleen, who, despite not being involved with the company since the middle of 2007, has just announced that his <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/29/exclusive-interview-steve-saleen-and-sms-limited/">new company, SMS Supercars,</a> will honor existing warranties on Saleen products. <br /><br />It's a move that's classy, honorable, and in our opinion <span style="font-style: italic;">pure genius</span>. We could be wrong, but we're guessing that any costs incurred by SMS will be offset by the flood of faithful customers that will gratefully switch their loyalty from the company to the man that bears the Saleen name. Judging from a handful of <a href="http://saleenforums.soec.org/showthread.php?t=4892">owners' reactions</a>, the announcement has already had that effect. With an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/15/steve-saleen-announces-new-2010-signature-series-mustangs/">SMS version of the 2010 Mustang</a> on the way, it will be interesting to see just how many Saleen owners return the favor. So to launch his first production model under the SMS badge, he rented out an Orange County night club and had a rave. Very unlike the Saleen launches we've attended in the past. After a couple hours of drinking and dancing, the cover was pulled off the first <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/sms-releases-new-images-price-range-for-its-570-and-570x-challe/">SMS 570 Challenger</a> and we got to see the car in the flesh for the first time. Although the lighting made photos a little tricky, we have to admit it was a heckuva lot more fun than just seeing it at an auto show press conference.<br /><br />The launch felt a bit like a wrap party, for the crowd was mainly comprised of SMS staff and Saleen family members celebrating the completeion of SMS 570 Challenger numero uno. While we would have liked to take it for a spin, we were told that the car is heading to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett+jackson/">certain big auction in Arizona</a> so they don't want to risk damaging it. It was honestly enough to just see it for now. The SMS 570 Challenger is mean, with revised body panels and those soon-to-be-trademark red butterfly induction hood flaps. The car was done up in a shade of purple that winks at the original Challengers of the '70s. While similar, it has a different name to reflect these more politically-correct times -- Plum <em>Insane</em> -- and looks great on this car.<br /><br />That's where any semblance of political correctness comes to a screeching halt. The SMS Signature Series 570 Challenger takes the already potent Chrysler 5.7L Hemi V8 and supercharges it to category 5 hurricane status. The base setup raises horsepower to 500, while the top-shelf tune is good for upwards of 700 hp. There are also a host of suspension, brake, and interior changes to make the package a complete turnkey supercar. Production is set to begin at the end of January, with prices expected to be in the $60,000 to $70,000 range. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/07/steve-saleens-plan-of-attack-for-2009/">2010 SMS Mustangs and Camaros</a> should follow later this year, according to Steve. On the other, he's got the slightly tangled mess of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/17/detroit-2008-steve-saleen-presents-a-bargain-chinese-pickup/">CHAMCO</a>, it's Chinese partner Zhongxing Auto, and their joint U.S. venture, ZX Auto North America International. <br /><br />Earlier this year, Steve was meant to be helping CHAMCO bring Chinese-made Zhongxing pickup trucks to America. Due to CHAMCO and ZX Auto NA getting tied up in bankruptcy, it appears Saleen has left CHAMCO to join its Chinese partner, Zhongxing Auto. There, he will develop a platform on which Zhongxing will base a sports car, a sedan, a CUV, an SAV, and an MPV. <p>The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/13/first-drive-2010-ford-mustang-gt/">2010 Ford Mustang</a> made its debut just a few weeks ago at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a> and already various tuners around the country are preparing their variants based on the new model. Steve Saleen has beat everyone to the punch and is the first to announce his new lineup called the Signature Series 460 Mustangs. Each will feature a supercharged version of Ford's 4.6L V8 starting at 475 horsepower and going all the way up to over 650 raging ponies underneath the hood. Keep in mind that the mechanicals of the 2010 Mustang are carried over from the current model, so we should expect the aftermarket industry to carry over their performance parts for the 4.6L V8, as well. Aerodynamic enhancements for the SMS Mustang will be penned by noted designer Phil Frank, and the cars will also feature upgrades for the drivetrain, suspension, tires, wheels and more upscale interior. <p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/29/exclusive-interview-steve-saleen-and-sms-limited/">Steve Saleen's</a> fledgling new company, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/14/sms-limited-steve-saleen-announces-new-supercar-brand/">SMS Supercars</a>, is getting ready to officially debut its first production car and has released a few more photos and information regarding the 570 and 570X Challenger. According to the new press release, the two models are targeted to start at $60,000 and $70,000, respectively. Yes, that's quite a chunk of change, but SMS is making it worthwhile with an extensive list of upgrades. Starting with the powertrain, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/07/blown-hemi-sms-announces-new-296-supercharger-system/">SMS 296 supercharger</a> pushes massive amounts of air to the 5.7L HEMI, and true enthusiasts will be glad to know that a proper 6-speed manual transmission will be doing the shifting. Both models also get a high performance suspension, exhaust, 20-inch wheels, and 14-inch front and 12-inch rear brakes. For the exterior, SMS replaces the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and hood, and adds a rear spoiler. The 570X model also receives carbon fiber front and rear splitters, a carbon fiber diffuser, and a rear wing that replaces the spoiler. The interior receives upgrades as well, including two-tone leather sport seats, leather door inserts, a leather grip shifter, 200-mph gauge cluster, and auxiliary gauges for the supercharger. <p>Steve Saleen grabbed our attention when he <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/14/sms-limited-steve-saleen-announces-new-supercar-brand/">announced his new company SMS Limited</a> and gave us a preview of his upcoming versions of the Dodge Challenger, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/12/saleen-to-tune-challenger-sms-570tm-and-570xtm-on-the-way/">570TM and 570XTM</a>. Since the preview only showed a rendering of the vehicle, we figured it would be quite some time before we saw an actual product. Our expectations were exceeded, however, when SMS sent us news of their very first product: the 296 Supercharger system for the 5.7L and 6.1L HEMI V8. The system features a massive 2955 cc of displacement as well as an internal intercooler, eight-rib pulley, by-pass valve, high-volume heat exchanger and more.
