Here's a question to ponder: If it can outrun a C5 Chevrolet Corvette off the line, can we even call it a skateboard anymore?

While we're intrigued by this Kickstarter project from Gnarboards, we'll admit to having no idea what we'd do with an electric skateboard that can do 0-28 miles per hour in under two seconds. We do, however, know exactly what we'd do with that C5 'vert in the video: Remove those Z06 brake ducts and those terrible wheels.

Tony Hawk will be in attendance at the Telstra 500 V8 Supercar race in Sydney next weekend, where he'll demonstrate his undiminished skills on the Monster Vert Ramp. As part of his welcome to the Antipodes, the locals have built him a 'skateboard' powered by a 630-horsepower V8 Supercar engine. Unlike the race cars, with their fancy roll cages and steering wheels, Tony just gets a throttle and a panic button. We'd love to see him run the ramp with it, but we'll settle for him going just a little faster than the guy in the video after the jump. Hat tip to Allan

2010 Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight - Click above for high-res image gallery

The Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight, in the company's Sportster segment, sits at a cross-cultural intersection in the cyclemaker's lineup. It apparently represents the spot where bikers meet skateboarders. It seems that the stripped-down looks and functional-jewelry design of the Forty-Eight is well appreciated by skaters who don't like their rides to make any extraneous fuss.

The bike is only one small part of what some call a larger trend, that of skateboarders increasingly moving into the world of bikes. It isn't that skateboarders want to be bikers but, according to a skate shop owner, "We're just wired a certain way. For some reason the death and danger are just a part of us." And you don't have to look any further than a motorcycle to find death and danger.

Harley has used the rendezvous to help market the Forty-Eight, including hiring skaters like Heath Kirchart and Matt Ball to appear in its promotional materials. The Milwaukee firm isn't targeting skateboarders only with this bike, but they certainly want to welcome them to the family. Said a Harley rep, "There's no question that there are huge parallels there between bikers and skateboarders." Tip of the cap to Alex!

Longboarding at 56+ mph - Click above to watch video after the jump

There's crazy, and then there's this level of all-out insanity. A group of longboarders in New Zealand have taken to hopping onto the local highway and coasting down a sizable hill while overtaking local traffic. The speed limit? A heady 56 mph. Police first became aware of the daredevils via a video posted on YouTube. Apparently Canadian Andrew Chapman first posted the quick film on Facebook. From there, it didn't take long for the exploits to make their way to the rest of the internet - and the law.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the boarders cover about 1.5 miles of State Highway 1 before pulling off the roadway and coming to a stop. If that's not bat guano enough for you, one of the characters in the video is clearly seen riding barefoot. Interestingly enough, the crew isn't forbidden from using their boards on the road. Since it changes from a motorway to an expressway at the top of the hills, though, law enforcement could technically charge the longboarders with failing to keep left or reckless driving. Hit the jump to see the video.

Man blasts family jewels with airbag: Click above to watch the video after the jump

You may remember last fall when we showed you a couple videos by Farmer Dave where he blows up refrigerators. That was good, stupid fun involving the blunt force of an exploding airbag. What you're about to see after the jump is just stupid, and every bit as interesting to watch.

A group of young men with nothing to do and little upstairs decided to get way more creative with an airbag. They strapped a 'live' airbag to a skateboard body and blew it up. For some reason, they thought it was a good idea to have one of the guys stand on two chairs with his legs spread apart when the safety device was detonated. The result of this stupidity is one helluva powerful blow to the male reproductive organs. We've seen some stupid stunts over the years, but this one has Darwin Award honorable mention written all over it. While you're watching the clip after the jump, think about how much money you would pay to not have this happen to you, then think about the fact that this guy probably didn't get a dime to ruin any chance at future offspring.

[Source: Spike.com via Jalopnik]
Continue reading VIDEO: Man aims airbag at family jewels, regrets what happens next

VIDEO: Man aims airbag at family jewels, regrets what happens next originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 12:56:00 EST. Turning it into a giant skateboard for an unseen giant operator, they portray a Nissan as athletic equipment. With an oddly soothing soundtrack making the sights seem so natural, the Qashqai does things that no vehicle is capable of. But that's not the point really. The ad is showing us how the CUV will tackle anything the urban jungle can throw at it and provide some youthful thrills in the process. Just like a few years ago when potential buyers were doing ollies and following the X Games more closely than the stock market. Just because you're getting older doesn't mean you have to grow up. Very clever and very slick.
