Jaguar continues to think well outside of the box when it comes to marketing it's new F-Type, now furthering plans for a short film which highlights the sexy roadster. Desire, featuring Damian Lewis (star of the hit series Homeland), Jordi Mollà (unforgettable in Bad Boys II) and Shannyn Sossamon (that girl you had a crush on for like a month in 2002 after you rented A Knight's Tale), Jaguar is clearly pulling out all the stops for this one. Well, nearly all the stops anyway - the "Ridley Scott Associates" billing isn't quite the same has having the man himself, if we're splitting hairs.

The short video below is still just a trailer for Desire - the full film will make its debut sometime in April, we're told. The sketched out plotlines tell us that Lewis' character Clark, "...delivers cars for a living, running into trouble after a chance encounter with a mysterious, young woman (Sossamon) in the middle of a lawless desert." The car looks good, at any rate.

Call us crazy, but the Desire trailer feels an awful lot like a spoof on the cool-but-overly-serious short films that BMW has done in this vein, already. Maybe we're just being cynical? Tell us what you think in comments after watching the clip.
Continue reading Watch the trailer for Jaguar's short film starring the F-Type and Damian Lewis

Watch the trailer for Jaguar's short film starring the F-Type and Damian Lewis originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 07 Mar 2013 19:30:00 EST.
YouTube was made to be a place where people post videos. But this was before anyone realized just how much rubbish gets committed to pixels every day, and how easy it would become to capture said rubbish because every gadget everyone owns contains a video camera. Still, there are some terrific productions once you get through the flying cats and yawning bunnies, such as Grand Theft Auto: RISE, by Gevorg Karensky.

With Grand Theft Auto V due next Spring - trailers here and here - plenty of folks beyond RockStar Games are getting amped up. Karensky has done a live-action short featuring Nico Bellic sent on a first mission for the evening, the unique detail being the overlaid map and identifiers of who's joined, what mission has been completed or failed and who's died. We hope there are more to come. You can watch the first one below.
Continue reading Grand Theft Auto-inspired short action film is why YouTube was invented

Grand Theft Auto-inspired short action film is why YouTube was invented originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 20 Nov 2012 20:02:00 EST.
If Michael Man were to do a film about spy photographers (of the automotive variety) from a script written by Mamet or Soderbergh, this would be it. Called The Illusive and brought to you by the folks at Mercedes, it's about spy photographer trying to get shots of Merc's wares and the Merc "agent" who's thwarting him. It's sultry, it's European, and there's an SLR Roadster in there, an inexplicably angry French waiter, as well as a few goats.

The film is part of Mercedes' branding efforts, in an attempt to draw a younger -- dare we say it -- slicker, crowd. It's a fun watch, and only about a dozen minutes long. Based on what we've heard of spy photography, though, it's not a documentary. We imagine that the folks at KGP, Priddy, Doane and co. wish they retired every evening to swank French restaurants for Chateaubriand and chianti
