Shelby American has made its name tuning various Ford products, and now the Focus ST can be added to this list. Just introduced at the Detroit Auto Show, the Shelby Focus ST doesn't add any extra horsepower under the hood, but it should still make sizable gains in performance thanks to an upgraded suspension, brakes and exhaust systems. Also on hand at the Shelby display was a widebody version of the powerful Shelby GT500 Super Snake.

Starting with the already-quick Focus ST, Shelby adds Ford Racing suspension components and bigger brakes with cross-drilled rotors, all finished off with a Borla exhaust system incorporating larger, circular outlets. Cheesy body graphics aside, some of the styling enhancements include functional hood vents, a hatch spoiler, unique interior bits and wider wheels and tires. Shelby does mention a tuning option that will increase the engine's 252-horsepower output to more than 300, although no pricing is mentioned. Speaking of price, Shelby says this souped-up hot hatch will carry a "budget minded price" (*ahem*). What is that you ask? Well, after you buy a 2013 Focus ST from your local Ford dealer (base price: $23,700), the Shelby upgrades will cost an extra $14,995. Production of these cars will be limited to just 500 units.

As for the Super Snake, Shelby is giving the car a wider optional body kit to accommodate the 10-inch front and 13-inch rear wheels. Customer can choose just the wider units at the rear or at all four corners. Opting for a "stock" 662-hp Super Snake will cost $28,995 on top of the cost of the Ford Shelby GT500, and if you're really flush with disposable income, there's a tuned 850-hp version for $39,995 (the widebody package is an extra $14,995). 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake - front three-quarter view, tilted

When Shelby first launched the GT500 Super Snake in 2007 (or relaunched, if you consider the one-off 1967 prototype), the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 was boosted all the way up to... wait for it... 600 horsepower. Fast-forward just five years and the muscle car landscape looks quite different. The 2013 Shelby GT500 now comes with 662 tire-shredding horsepower from the factory.

To their credit, Shelby American has kept pace the past few years, introducing an 800-horsepower Super Snake and the almighty Shelby 1000. The latest Super Snake model takes things another step further, offering up an incredible 850 horsepower. If that's too much to handle, customers can opt out of the supercharger upgrade and stick with the factory 662 ponies.

Of course, there's more to the Super Snake than just raw horsepower. The post-title package includes items like upgraded front and rear brakes, Borla exhaust, sport suspension, Shelby-designed 20-inch wheels and a beefier cooling package. There's also the signature stripes, fiberglass hood and an optional widebody kit that allows for wider wheels and tires.

In total the Super Snake package will lighten your wallet by $28,995, not including the base GT500, or $39,995 if you opt for the 850 horsepower version.

Shelby GT350 Anniversary Edition

This year marks the 50th anniversary since Shelby first started adding his magic touch to vehicles, and to celebrate the occasion, his team has announced three new anniversary edition of the Mustang here in Detroit. Available on the GT500 Super Snake, GT350 and GTS, the package includes gold stripes matched with either black or white paint, custom interior, special wheels, unique VIN and more. A special delivery at the Shelby museum in Las Vegas also comes as part of the deal.

Exclusivity will play a big part of the anniversary Mustangs, as Shelby will only build 100 examples of each car, 50 of each color. Package pricing starts at $59,995 for both the GT500 Super Snake and GT350 (not including the base car), while the GTS is comparatively more affordable with a starting package price of $19,995.

Shelby has no qualms about constantly upping the horsepower of its range-topping Ford GT500 Super Snake. When first introduced in 2008, the base Super Snake had a mere 605 ponies under the hood with an option for up to 725. That number increased to 750 for 2010, and now for the 2012 model year, Shelby is set to unveil the latest Super Snake with up to 800 tire-shredding horsepower on tap from its 5.4-liter supercharged V8.

Like previous Super Snake models, the latest version will come with a host of other upgrades including a sport suspension system, Baer six-piston brakes, Borla exhaust system, Alcoa 20-inch wheels, fiberglass hood and more.

We'll get our first look at the 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake when it debuts at the New York Auto Show later this month, but until then, you can read more details about the car in the press release after the jump or check out the outgoing car in our gallery below.

We submit to the record that the Shelby Cobra is the coolest American car ever to go into production. Whether or not you agree, there's no denying the fact that the car that Carroll built is a legend in both street and racing circles, and it was the first car from waving the Stars and Stripes to truly upset the German and Italian motorsports hierarchy. Impressive credentials, then.

But is the Cobra the fastest car ever to wear the Shelby badge? Ah, now that's an entirely different matter altogether, and one the boys from Hot Rod decided to put to the test. In one corner we have the incumbent 427 SC Cobra. Its challenger, bringing 750 supercharged horsepower to the ring, is none other than the 2011 Shelby GT500 Super Snake.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall... which is the baddest of them all? To find out, Hot Rod lined the two track-tuned beasts against each other for two separate tests: a road course and the drag strip. And the winner is? See for yourself in the video after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Jason!

When we tested the 750 horsepower 2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, our man Jonathon Ramsey declared it the "new king" of Mustangs. Surprisingly, he found that the suspension was able to - barely - keep up with the engine, but we figured that the Super Snake had just about all the power a street-driven Mustang could handle. We thought wrong, at least according to Shelby.

Ol' Carroll has upped the ante in the horsepower wars once again by offering up to 800 horsepower in the newly-released 2011 version of the Super Snake. Of course, there are more sane options including 660 horsepower and 750 horsepower variants, but the 800 horsepower version will undoubtedly be the must-have for the guy (or girl) who needs the biggest and baddest 'Stang on the block. Also new for 2011 are the optional anthracite wheels, white stripes and new side scoops. The Super Snake package starts at $30,245 (just $250 less than the cost of a brand new 2011 Mustang GT) and can be built at Shelby's Las Vegas facility or at any of their official Mod Shops around the country. Recently, we ran a little poll in which we asked which car would you prefer: A Nissan GT-R or a Ford Shelby Mustang GT500? The results - which aren't too surprising - had just over two thirds of you rooting and tooting for Godzilla. And that's all fine. However, someone pointed out that the contest should have been between Godzilla and the new Shelby Super Snake. Well guess what?

Thankfully, Motor Trend has totally obliged you. In this video, the 412-horsepower and 393 pound-feet of torque (at the wheels, people, at the wheels) Nissan GT-R takes on the 635 hp and 581 lb-ft of torque Shelby GT500 Super Snake do the quarter-mile. The results? We're going to make you jump to find out, but we aren't surprised. At all. But then again, we've driven both cars (in fact, this appears to be the exact 2010 GT-R we drove). Coinciding with the 35th Annual Ford and Team Shelby Nationals in Tulsa, OK, Shelby Automobiles has released a barrage of new models including a 2010 version of the GT500 Super Snake (above). Most of the models are based on the previous generation Mustang, either the Mustang GT, Shelby GT or GT500 that current owners can bring to Shelby to be modified.

First up is the Shelby GT/SC, basically a Shelby GT with a supercharger, upgraded brakes and triple gauges on the dash. Next is the Shelby GT/SR (right), which is essentially a GT/SC model fitted with additional equipment for racing like BFGoodrich R compound tires, a one-piece aluminum driveshaft, front brake duct kit and an adjustable suspension.

If you want to Shelbify your regular Mustang GT, you can opt for the SuperCharged package that includes a supercharger, upgrades brakes, suspension and exhaust, 18-inch tires and more. You can also spec out your Mustang to SR spec, which adds similar upgrades to the GT/SR model.

Have a GT500 that needs more Shelby stuff on it? You can now go with the GT500SE (Special Edition) package that includes a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels and hood grille inserts, Ford Racing suspension, Borla exhaust, 20-inch wheels and tires, and more. And what if your GT500 is a 2010 model? Well, Shelby is now offering their Super Snake package for the latest GT500 that, among other things, offers a 725-horsepower supercharger upgrade.

Tonight at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California, Carroll Shelby and Co. unveiled what is by far the most radical Mustang ever built for the street. Named after Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, who drove a top fuel car for Shelby in the 1968 season, the new Shelby features a 750 horsepower (over 800 on race fuel) version of the GT500's 5.4-liter V8 thanks to an upgraded Kenne Bell supercharger.

Other modifications include a custom fiberglass full tilt front end, a Shelby rear drag wing, eight-point roll cage, six-piston front brakes, rear seat delete, coilover springs, custom Bogart wheels, and much more. Did we mention it's STREET LEGAL? Pricing comes in at a stout $99,995 to upgrade a currently titled car or $149,995 for a complete car. Production will be limited to just 100 examples. Despite the Shelby GT500KR's claim of supremacy over the dominion that is the open road, there is yet another Mustang that is even more extreme. Shelby's Super Snake package for the GT500 offers up to 725 horsepower and even more aggressive options for the suspension and braking systems. Available as a post-sale conversion for the GT500, the transformation can be performed at the Shelby facility in Las Vegas or at one of the official mod shops around the country. There have been a handful of owners who have already converted their GT500s, and one is already for sale on eBay. Something seems wrong with the seller's math, however, because a "Buy It Now" price of $200,000 is far more than the cost of a GT500 plus the $31,995 needed for the 725 horsepower conversion. We could understand the markup if these were in high demand, but pretty much any GT500 owner can send his car to get converted. So unless you really can't wait, keep your mouse away from the bidding button and just enjoy the gallery below. Thanks for the tip, Brad!

You might be asking the same question that we are. Why isn't this thing at Barrett-Jackson? With the auction less than a week away, this car would have been the perfect candidate for an over-zealous buyer to pay way too much for a classic muscle car. Only one Shelby GT500 SuperSnake was ever built, so it's even more rare than the Shelby Cobra SuperSnake that sold for $5 million at Barrett-Jackson last year. Shelby built twice as many of those! Still, it doesn't make the $3 million Buy It Now price sound any less ridiculous. Cool features of this truly-and-honestly one-of-a-kind car include a 427ci V8 with 520 horsepower, a 170 mph top speed and unique triple stripes.

UPDATE: Finally found a pic of the Shelby GT500 Super Snake, although we feel silly for waiting since Photoshop could've (and did) produce the same result. Note the identical pic of the Shelby GT500KR below. The only differences appear to be the center striping, all black side mirrors and a scoop in place of the previous C-pillar window.

We're starting to get the impression that the Mustang wants to challenge the F-150 as world's best-selling vehicle considering that special edition after special edition of this pony car continues to be introduced. The latest one is not the just announced Shelby GT500KR (shown above) that bowed at the New York Auto Show earlier this month. Rather, StangsUnleashed.com has published a press release that reveals Shelby Automobiles and FoMoCo will hook up yet again to produce a limited number of GT500 Super Snake coupes in late 2007.

The Shelby GT500 Super Snake coupe will come standard with a Ford Racing Supercharger on its 5.4L V8 that bumps the Mustang's already prodigious power numbers up to 600 horsepower. While that engine will come with a full factory-backed warranty, there will reportedly be other engine options that include a 725-horsepower motor that comes without the blessing of the factory (no warranty). Other mods include a Ford Racing Handling Pack that adds adjustable dampers, lower springs, bigger stabilizer bars and a front strut tower brace. The brakes are of course bigger and fit snuggly behind a set of Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels.
