This year marks the 50th anniversary since Shelby first started adding his magic touch to vehicles, and to celebrate the occasion, his team has announced three new anniversary edition of the Mustang here in Detroit. Available on the GT500 Super Snake, GT350 and GTS, the package includes gold stripes matched with either black or white paint, custom interior, special wheels, unique VIN and more. A special delivery at the Shelby museum in Las Vegas also comes as part of the deal.

Exclusivity will play a big part of the anniversary Mustangs, as Shelby will only build 100 examples of each car, 50 of each color. Package pricing starts at $59,995 for both the GT500 Super Snake and GT350 (not including the base car), while the GTS is comparatively more affordable with a starting package price of $19,995.

You can read more details about the Shelby anniversary edition Mustangs in the press release after the jump, and you can see photos of all three cars in both the official and live galleries.
Continue reading Shelby celebrates 50 years with Anniversary Edition Mustangs

Shelby celebrates 50 years with Anniversary Edition Mustangs originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 10 Jan 2012 14:30:00 EST. Hot Rod takes the 2011 Shelby GT350 out for a smoke break - Click above to watch video after the jump

Hot Rod was recently busy filming its Shelby Cobra versus Super Snake video, but that doesn't mean there wasn't some downtime. That break in the action... resulted in more action, because someone at Shelby handed the Hot Rod crew keys to a 2011 GT350.

Did they take a few casual runs up and down the road to get some basic footage? No, they lined up the car on a desert side street and attempted to ruin the rear rubber. On their way back to the original film shoot, they threw in a quick power slide for good measure. Drop the clutch and click past the jump to check out the clip.

The 2011 Shelby GT350 followed nearly the same philosophy as the Ford Model T. You could get it in any color you want as long as it was white with blue stripes. That's changing for 2012, as Shelby will also be offering the GT350 in Race Red and Kona Blue. A convertible option will be available, as well. In fact, this is the first time Shelby has built a drop-top GT350 since 1970.

The 2012 GT350 will offer up identical performance as the 2011 model, although one could argue that it didn't need an upgrade in the first place. Customers can choose between the 430-horsepower base model or opt for either 525- or 624-horsepower versions. Additional upgrades include a full body kit, Cragar wheels, larger brakes, sport suspension and more. The convertible also comes with the option of a light bar. You can read full details about the 2012 Shelby GT350 after the jump, and check out our live photos from the show floor in the gallery below.

Shelby American has finally released the specs on its 2011 Shelby GT350. Starting with a 2011 Ford Mustang GT, Shelby utilizes Ford's 5.0-liter V8 engine but ups the ante a bit. The base GT350 is rated at 430 horsepower (the stock GT musters 412 hp). On the standard GT350, a Whipple supercharger can be added to boost power output to 525 hp - enough to propel the modified Mustang from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds. If that's not enough, the R tune version produces a monstrous 624 horses.

All 2011 Shelby GT350s are fitted with a long list of performance-aiding parts which include upgrades to the brakes, suspension and tires. As you can see above, they also wear unique Shelby aero and trim bits, a GT350 45th anniversary badge and a serialized Shelby GT350 dash plate.

Pricing for the naturally-aspirated Shelby GT350 conversion is set at $26,995 and the base supercharged car runs $33,995. Due to the 99-pony jump with the R tune, you would expect that package to cost close to $40,000, but it doesn't. It's just 750 bucks over the price of the standard supercharged kit. All of these prices, however, fail to include the cost of the donor Mustang GT. A full parts list and more performance stats are available in the press release after the jump.

When you hear the name Carroll Shelby, what comes to mind? First and foremost, it's probably the legendary automobiles that have carried his name, specifically the Cobra and Mustang. Some may also recall the series of Dodge vehicles that he collaborated on, and others may think of his stint as a successful race car driver.

Something that probably doesn't come to mind, though, is a burgeoning parts business. If ol' Shelby has his way, that may soon change. In a recent interview, Shelby had this to say in regards to the future direction of his eponymous company:

"I want to build fewer cars and sell more parts. It's hard to make any money on a car. But our parts business is growing 15 to 20 percent a year. We are downsizing and going for the parts business... Simplify the business - that's what I'm saying. And that's what I'm doing in Las Vegas."

It would seem the recently unveiled 2011 GT350 may be the final complete car package offered by Shelby... though we wouldn't be at all surprised if the 87-year-old tuner has a few more tricks up his sleeves.

Different people like different things, and this is especially true with cars. Even with something as specific as the new 2011 Shelby GT350, customers want to have options. When the car was unveiled at Barrett-Jackson earlier this year it only came equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and a Ford Racing supercharger good for 500 horsepower, but according to Shelby they will now be offering both a naturally aspirated and an automatic version to customers. The company cites qualifying the GT350 for SCCA racing as the main reason for offering a non-supercharged model, although the overall price point may have been a factor as well. Leaving the supercharger off the options list will save you $7,000, and there will still be 412 horsepower to play with from the 5.0-liter V8.

Supercharged or not, automatic or manual, each GT350 will be a serious performer. The car comes standard with a Shelby-tuned Ford Racing suspension system, Baer front and rear brakes, Borla exhaust and new compound of Goodyear tires. Each GT350 will only be available in legendary White with Guardsman Blue stripes, and all will be built as a post-title program at Shelby's Las Vegas facility. The upfit package (base car not included) now starts at $26,995 for the naturally aspirated model and $33,995 for the supercharged version. Follow the jump for full details.

There are quite a few Shelby Mustangs here at Barrett-Jackson, but if we could only buy one it would be this '66 GT350. What's so special about it? For starters, it's the very first one built. It's also got everything we would want in a classic Shelby - Wimbledon White paint with Blue Le Mans stripes, 4-speed transmission, 15-inch Cragar wheels, Goodyear blue dot tires and a fully-restored 289ci V8. The car also comes with its original owner's manual, SAAC club documentation and is listed in the Shelby American World Registry.

What's it worth? The market has spoken and it's said $247,500. That's quite a bit of cash, but like we said, if there's any Shelby here that we would buy, this would be it. Hit the jump for a full description of the car courtesy of Barrett-Jackson.

The 2011 Shelby GT350 seemed to have a polarizing effect when it debuted at Barrett-Jackson's opening gala event on Monday night. Some of you loved it and others instantly objected to everything from the looks of the car to the $33,995 price tag that doesn't include the base car. With 500 horsepower from the new 5.0-liter V8, there's no arguing that the 2011 GT350 has plenty of performance potential, but is another $60,000+ Mustang what people really want?

The first thing we did when we arrived in Scottsdale last night was to make a bee-line to check out the car in person. We also caught up with Jim Owens, Shelby's Vice President of Marketing and Communications, who talked to us about the car. Follow the jump for what we learned about the 2011 GT350.

2011 Shelby GT350 - Click above for a high-res image gallery

Coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the original 1965 Shelby GT350, Shelby American unveiled an all new GT350 Mustang at the opening night gala of the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ. Presented in concept form, the new GT350 features a supercharged version of the brand new 5.0-liter V8 engine in the 2011 Mustang as well as performance upgrades from Ford Racing, Borla, Cragar, Baer and more.

Unlike the GT500, the GT350 will be a post-title upgrade available from Shelby. Customers can have their 2011 Mustangs shipped directly to Shelby's Las Vegas facility to be converted or they can deliver the car themselves. Once in the hands of Shelby, each Mustang is fitted with a Ford Racing supercharger good for approximately 500 horsepower, a Ford Racing suspension system, Baer brakes front and rear, Borla exhaust system, Cragar wheels, and more. For the exterior, Shelby fits a new front fascia, front splitter, functional hood scoop tail light trim, rear deck lid filler panel and a rear fascia with center exhaust exit. White with Guardsman Blue racing stripes will be the only available color combination, which isn't such a bad thing.

Of course, all of that comes at a price. Shelby lists the GT350's MSRP at $33,995, which doesn't sound that bad until you realize it doesn't include the base car. With the 2011 Mustang GT coming in at just over $30,000, the total price of the GT350 will actually exceed that of the GT500. Does something similar to the Shelby GT built the last few years make more sense? Perhaps, but we're sure Shelby will find quite a few buyers anyway. You can read all of the details in Shelby's press release after the jump, and check out the new GT350 for yourself in the high-res gallery below.
We just told you about the one-off Roush BlackJack Mustang convertible that will be going across the block, and there was the pair of bitchin' OCC Eleanor GT500 E Mustangs that set Westworld rockin' in January, only to be topped by the pair of black Bosses a little while later. And who can forget the other Shelby specials that have brought outrageous amounts for the right to get car number one? The first GT500 went for $600,000 last year. The first Shelby GT matched it. In all fairness, those bids were more about giving to Carroll's charity than getting the car itself, as good as those 'Stangs might be.

And now we get word that Ford is going to do it again. It plans to debut a new Mustang special edition at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach this weekend. The only details we have right now are that the car will be limited to just 500 copies and that the rights to car number one will likely bring a huge number for the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation. We're guessing it will be a Shelby GT convertible, but wouldn't be surprised to see a Boss 302, Mach 1, Bullitt or even a GT350 roll across the stage on Saturday. Any predictions?

[Source: Mustang Evolution]
New Mustang to debut at Barrett-Jackson Auction March 31 originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 27 Mar 2007 15:28:00 EST.
