Lamborghini packing a surprise or two up its sleeve for Geneva?

It was quite a while back that Lamborghini promised it would have something new for every major auto show. That seemed quite the claim at the time, particularly for a company with a two-car model lineup, but with a few exceptions here and there, the Italian automaker has been keeping pace famously. So what has Sant'Agata Bolognese got in store for us for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show? A surprise - or two - from what we hear.

All indications are that the Aventador Roadster is ready to go. With 700 horsepower and no roof, that would be more than enough to garner its fair share of attention and then some. But that's not all.

According to the trusty old rumormill, Lamborghini has got something else in store for Geneva. Just what it is, we don't know. It could be the final production version of the Sesto Elemento, which likely wouldn't be very different from the concept version we've already seen. It could be, as is usually the case, another special edition Gallardo. But it could be a proper new debut.

If it is, we could be looking at the new third model - be it a sedan or a crossover - or maybe the Gallardo's replacement. We'll have to wait and see just what Lamborghini has in store, but if Stephan Winkelmann and company plan on sticking to the formula, they could opt to show the Aventador Roadster at another show and keep the spotlight on whatever surprise they're allegedly working on.

Reventón, Sesto Elemento just the beginning for Lamborghini

Lamborghini is there to make extreme supercars. That's what it's always done and that's what it always will do. But even for the Raging Bull marque, some of its supercars have been more extreme than others. It broke new ground when it produced the Reventón, and then followed up with the Reventón Roadster, giving those with the scratch on hand a chance at owning a machine even more exclusive than the company's "standard" offerings.

Sant'Agata is preparing to tap back into that customer base with the Sesto Elemento, a Gallardo-sized concept car that is set to enter limited production as an exclusive track toy for those with the means. But will Lamborghini stop going down this road when all 20 examples of the Sesto Elemento are signed, sealed and delivered? Hardly.

According to the latest reports from the Old World, the Reventon and Sesto Elemento are destined to go down in history as the first in a long line of million-dollar exotics from the Bolognese automaker.

So what will the next billionaire's Lambo entail? Far too early to say, but according to reports citing CEO Stephan Winkelmann, don't expect it to follow the same extreme-lightweight approach as the Sesto Elemento, as improving on that formula would be too much even for Lamborghini. Given that a good three years separated the debut of the Reventón from the debut of the Sesto Elemento last year, it'll be 2013 at the earliest before we have any idea.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento production confirmed

We've all been anxiously awaiting for Italian dreamboat builders Lamborghini to confirm production of a key new third model line, expanding the brand with either a sedan or SUV range. And while Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann just confirmed a new model at an event before the Frankfurt Motor Show press days began today, it isn't either of those vehicles. Instead, it's a production version of the Sesto Elemento concept from the 2010 Paris Motor Show, a lightweight, track-only, ultra-extreme carbon-fiber coupe with knife-edged styling.

According to the CEO, the Sesto Elemento will be a hyper-limited production model in the mold of the Reventón, with just 20 examples planned (though we wouldn't be surprised to see a convertible version announced later on). No word yet on pricing just, but mere money probably shouldn't stop potential buyers from banging on the doors in Sant'Agata Bolognese demanding a copy of their very own.

Lamborghini teases new "super sports car" for Frankfurt

Lamborghini has begun sending out invitations this week for the debut of its new "super sports car" at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next month. While the Italian automaker has a number of projects in development, this "super sports car" is most likely a production version of the Sesto Elemento concept that debuted last year at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

We had already heard that if the Sesto Elemento were to reach production, it would be for track use only. The invitation sent out this week says "Lamborghini. Racing Towards Frankfurt," which suggests that the car debuting in Frankfurt also has a track connection. Put the two together and we suspect we'll be seeing the Sesto Elemento again in Germany next month, this time without the word 'concept' attached to its name.

Lamborghini looking at a whole mess of new convertibles

Picture a Lamborghini these days, and you're about as likely to imagine a roadster as you might a coupe. But that hasn't always been the case, because for most of the company's history, they didn't offer any convertibles at all. Sure, the Jalpa and Silhouette offered removable targa-style roof panels, but that was about it until the Diablo VT Roadster came along in 1995 (and even that was more of a targa), followed by the recently discontinued Murciélago Roadster and the many versions of the Gallardo Spyder, which was really the first proper convertible in the company's history. But these days, Sant'Agata has a whole mess of new convertibles on the drawing board.

The Aventador is likely to get a similar type of open-air treatment as the Murciélago did before it. And rumor has it that the Gallardo will spawn a convertible version of the purist's choice LP550-2 before the entire line is eventually replaced by the rumored Cabrera, which will almost certainly get a roadster version as well.

But beyond the existing core range, Top Speed suggests that there are a couple more open-air Lambos in the mix. For one, if and when the Sesto Elemento reaches limited production for public consumption, it could lead to a droptop version as well. After all, Lambo could hardly resist the prospect with the Sesto's spiritual predecessor, the Reventón, which lead to a limited run of 15 roadsters.

Finally rumors are circulating that, if Sant'Agata opts to build the Estoque sedan over the prospect of a crossover, this could lead to a convertible version as well. Of course, that's skipping the front-engine coupe that would likely bridge the gap, taking a similar path to the Panamera from sister-company Porsche.

Between the Aventador, Gallardo LP550-2, Cabrera, Sesto Elemento and Estoque, Lamborghini certainly appears to have a lot of prospects up in the air. We'll just have to see which ones open up.

When Lamborghini unveiled the Sesto Elemento concept car at the Paris Motor Show last year, few thought it would ever get past the show stand. Sure, elements of its lightweight construction would trickle down to future production models, but as for producing the Sesto as is seemed rather outside of the realm of possibility. But then the rumors began circulating.

In the wake of the show car's debut, we began receiving reports that Lamborghini was, indeed, preparing to put it into production, albeit severely limited. Then follow-up reports suggested that the car could be strictly limited to closed circuits in order to avoid costly homologation procedures.

Now those rumors are rounding the mill again, as Sant'Agata reportedly prepares to bring the Sesto Elemento to market. If and when it does, Lamborghini will count on the concept's advanced composite construction to stick to the 995-kilogram (2,200-pound) curb weight. Coupled with the Gallardo's 5.2-liter V10 engine - possibly tuned for extra power - the production model is expected to hit 62 from a standstill in just 2.5 seconds, making it quicker even than the new Aventador which hits highway speeds in just 2.9.

Somewhere along the way, the Reventón-matching million-Euro price tag that we thought was astronomical already will reportedly double to €2 million, or around $2.8 million USD based on current exchange rates. That's an enormous chunk of change, especially for a car you can't even take out onto the street. But considering the multi-millionaires who drop bigger figures on decommissioned F1 cars just for track days, the Raging Bull marque could very well have little trouble offloading the 20 examples pegged for production.

Report: Lamborghini plans surface; include Estoque, Sesto Elemento and Gallardo-replacing Cabrera

With the new Aventador now uncovered and sold out for at least the next year, Lamborghini is undoubtedly preparing its next model. And the one after that. And incoming reports have detailed what could be the Raging Bull marque's product plan for the next several years.

First to come could be the limited-production version of the Sesto Elemento concept car. Rather than taking the place of any current model, the Sesto Elemento could take up a Reventon-like position in the line-up, offering limited numbers at high prices.

The Estoque concept also appears to be edging closer to production, sharing its underpinnings with the next-generation versions of the Porsche Panamera, Audi A8 and Bentley Continental. The four-door model could also be joined by a GT coupe.

Of course, we can expect to see variants of the Aventador coming 'round the mountain as well, including potential Roadster and eventual Super Veloce versions.

Finally the Gallardo will eventually need replacing, and sources suggest that its successor could carry the Cabrera nameplate in reference to a bloodline of famous fighting bulls. Given that the Gallardo has spawned a good dozen variants over the years, you can bet the Cabrera will give rise to a few of its own, as well.

What does Lamborghini have in store for its 50th anniversary?

In two years' time, Lamborghini will be marking the half-century milestone, and the impending anniversary has everyone asking how the Italian automaker will choose to celebrate its landmark anniversary.

If we look back at how the company marked previous anniversaries, we find examples like the 25th Anniversary Countach (pictured above), the Diablo SE30 and the 40th Anniversary Edition Murciélago. In other words, while arch-rival Ferrari celebrates anniversaries with purpose-built supercars like the F40 and F50, Lamborghini has typically done so with special editions of the cars they already produce.

Will the next example follow the same path? Or is the 50th birthday one too important to leave to a trim and tape package? Some are suggesting that the limited-production version of the Sesto Elemento concept will arrive in time for the festivities, but we'll just have to sit tight to find out for sure.

The Sesto Elemento concept was envisioned as a design study, previewing the styling and technology we might expect to see on the next generation of Lamborghini supercars. But shortly after it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show a few months back, reports began to emerge suggesting that the Italian automaker could put it into production, however limited.

Now an exotic car dealership in Germany is listing the car for sale. Although the reported original listing on the mobile.de online marketplace is no longer there to be found, Auto Salon Singen still has it up on its website with an approximately €2 million ($2.63M USD) list price - €1.9m before tax, €2.3m after.

Does Singen know something the rest of us don't? The dealership has an impressive showroom packed with all manner of rare exotica. Or are they simply anticipating the same announcement as the rest of us?

It sounds like we can forget all about cruising South Beach in the upcoming Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. According to Autocar, The Raging Bull is planning to build the carbon-fiber terror as a limited production model for track duty only. Thanks to its unique construction, the Sesto Elemento should hit the scales at less than 2,200 pounds, all while boasting the same drivetrain as the wicked Superleggera. This promises to be one very fast machine, but chances are it will carry a price tag to match. Autocar is reporting that the newest addition to the Lamborghini stable will likely go for Reventón money. With an MSRP of over $1.6 million, you certainly won't be seeing these parked in every paddock.

That's all the more true given that Autocar suspects that Lamborghini will build less than 20 examples of the Sesto Elemento. Who knew that rare birds were built from forged carbon fiber?

Lamborghini's Sesto Elemento, the carbon fiber beauty that debuted at the Paris Motor Show just two short months ago, has reportedly been given the green light by its Italian automaker. The two-seat "Sixth Element" exotic is much more than radical jet-fighter styling and a fixation with all things lightweight. Hidden under its flat-black composite panels is the same V10 engine shoehorned into the Lamborghini LP 570-4 Superleggera. With a power rating of 570 horsepower and a curb weight of just 2,200 pounds, the 5.2-liter engine is reportedly able to launch the all-wheel-drive Sesto Elemento to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Keep the pedal down, and the Lamborghini should top 215 mph. With a price tag of about €2.5 million ($3.4 million at today's exchange), and a production run limited to less than ten units, best of luck securing one for your garage.

Last night we gave you the first look at Lamborghini's new Sesto Elemento, a concept car that demonstrates the company's latest technologies. At the time we didn't have the opportunity to get a close look at many of the car's details, but we're making up for it today with plenty of new photos and more info.

If there's one thing that caught our attention about the Sesto Elemento, it's the weight. Lamborghini was able keep its curb weight to 999 kg, or 2,202 lbs, thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastics. The entire car is essentially constructed from the lightweight materials including the monocoque, front frame, body panels, major suspension components and wheels. With a 570-horsepower V10 mounted behind the cockpit, the San Elemento has just 3.86 pounds to push for every horsepower. Lamborghini claims a 0-100 km/h time of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of over 300 km/hr, or 186 mph.

While the technical details are impressive, we weren't immediately taken with the exterior design. As our own Chris Paukert put it, "There's a lot going on." What's interesting is that while we don't necessarily like the design as a whole, each of the individual elements is quite stunning. The interior is impressive to see as well, with nearly nothing to hide the structural and functional aspects of the car.

Surely, one of the most hotly anticipated releases at the 2010 Paris Motor Show would be the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept. After all, no automaker has teased the masses these last few weeks more than Lamborghini, and perhaps no single vehicle manufacturer is as beloved by the teenage boys lurking inside each one of us.

That said, any new Lambo is going to have big shoes to fill, with such classics as the Miura, Countach, Diablo and Murcielago, Gallardo and Reventon each holding its well-earned place in the annals of supercardom. The doors still haven't quite opened up at the Paris Motor Show and already the leakage has begun in full force. Yesterday we got a sneak peek at the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept, but the lone photo was small and grainy. Thankfully, the wait for real images is now over mere minutes before the car is officially unveiled at an evening event held by the Volkswagen Group in Paris as we speak. A total of five shots of the carbon-intensive supercar have just hit the interwebs, and they didn't come from Lamborghini.

To put it mildly, we like what we see. As could be seen in the series of teasers officially let loose by the boys from Lamborghini, every single bit of the car has been fashioned from carbon fiber. Suitable, then, that the car has been named after the sixth element of the periodic table - Sesto Elemento literally means sixth element in Italian. Even the tailpipes have been fashioned from a sort of composite called Pyrosic that is able to withstand extremely high temperatures.

Those high exhaust temperatures will be exhaled by a V10 engine that's putting out a stonkin' 570 horsepower. With just 2,200 pounds of weight to move, the run to 60 will take less than 2.5 seconds. Just yesterday, the news broke that Lamborghini's Paris Motor Show-bound unveiling could be the Reventón-inspired, jet-fighter-like Sesto Elemento concept. Of course, we won't know for sure until the Paris show kicks off later this week, and Lamborghini has released one more (hopefully final) teaser of its show-bound concept. You know, just for kicks.

As we reported earlier, the Sesto Elemento concept is constructed almost entirely from carbon fiber, and this sixth teaser image is all the proof we need to back up that claim. The latest Lambo will be seriously lightweight, and if a V10 is, in fact, lurking under the Sesto's sheetmetal, expect mind-warping acceleration to be on tap.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento concept may be the tease of Paris

Is this the concept car that Lamborghini has been teasing us in such an achingly slow manner leading up to this week's Paris Motor Show? All signs point to yes, but it's still too early to know for sure. In any case, the Sesto Elemento - if it is indeed the next Lambo to be hung on the walls of teenage boys from Constantinople to Timbuktu - will push forward with the jet-fighter-ish angular styling theme set in motion by the limited production Reventon from the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show... for better or for worse.

As expected, the Sesto Elemento (which translated to English means Sixth Element - we'd expect some sort of Bullish name if it hits production) is crafted almost exclusively from carbon fiber. That means it's light... as in just 2,200 pounds (999 kilograms) light. That's seriously low for a V10-powered supercar, and it means an estimated 0 to 62 (100 kilometers per hour) run of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 217.5 miles per hour (350 kph).

With a weight that low, we wouldn't expect any kind of hybrid powertrain, but you never know. It's not really possible to get a good feel for the appearance of the Sesto Elemento based on this grainy photo, but we're certainly intrigued.
