<br />
One man's junk is... well, you know. Watching the shiny metal grommets roll through his auto recycling plant in Brisbane, Australia, James Corbett doesn't appear to know the word "junk" when it comes to cars. He takes all of those leftover bits and makes superbly detailed sculptures of mostly vintage racers and, of all things, animals. None of the parts are bent or altered to help make the pieces, either. Corbett even built a full-size car out of parts and stuck a flathead V8 in it, and he still takes it racing.<br />
<br />
Corbett has <a href="http://www.johndaviesgallery.com/exhibitionsView.asp?exhibitionTitle=James%20Corbett%20Exhibition%202009&amp;exhibitionID=27">an exhibit coming up in London</a> this month and then takes his show to Palm Desert, CA next year. If you don't get a chance to see the real things, we suggest you have a well-worth-it look at the images in our gallery below. <br />

<br /> Next to the Lexus LFA display at this week's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Tokyo-Motor-Show-is/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> is a separate room displaying brand-themed art. At first, we didn't bother going in, but we went back here on day two, and we're sure glad we did.<br /><br />Inside, we found this amazing full-size transparent sculpture of Lexus' <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/21/lexus-lfa-tokyo-2009/">new $375,000 LFA supercar</a> that was constructed by Scu Fujimoto, a noted Japanese architect. The sculpture was first displayed at the Milan Design Week earlier this year and is simply stunning to look at. What's most impressive is that details like the seats, instrument panel, engine, suspension, and transaxle can all be seen. <br /><br />According to Lexus, the sculpture is constructed from transparent acrylic boards that have been sanded and polished. You can learn more about this unique piece of automotive art at <a href="http://lexus.jp/lexus_art/">Lexus' L-Finesse web site</a>, but make sure to check out its stunning icy hotness in our high-res gallery below. <br /> <br /><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-transparent-lexus-lfa/low/">Tokyo 2009: Transparent Lexus LFA</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-transparent-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/transparentlfa_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-transparent-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/transparentlfa_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-transparent-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/transparentlfa_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-transparent-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/transparentlfa_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-transparent-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/transparentlfa_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-2011-lexus-lfa/low/">Tokyo 2009: 2011 Lexus LFA</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-2011-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfalive_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-2011-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfalive_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-2011-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfalive_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-2011-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfalive_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-2011-lexus-lfa/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfalive_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <strong><em><font size="1">Photos copyright (C)2009 </font></em></strong><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><em><font size="1">Drew Phillips</font></em></strong></a><strong><em><font size="1"> / Weblogs, Inc.</font></em></strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/22/lexus-lfa-transparent-tokyo-2009-architect/">Tokyo 2009: Cool As Ice: Japanese architect builds full-size transparent Lexus LFA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 11:21:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Audi TT sculpture - click above for high-res gallery</small><br /></div>
<br />It's not at all unusual for successive generations of a car line to grow larger the preceding edition. However, in an era where down-sizing is becoming more common, this is a bit absurd. Actually, the car shown here is a 33.5 foot long, 10-ton sculpture of the Audi TT coupe. <br /><br />The giant TT has actually been around for several years now, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/07/the-story-behind-the-automobile/">debuting in Berlin in 2006</a> and having been shown in Beijing, Munich, and Hong Kong since then. The outsized work of art has now been brought to Audi's Ingolstadt headquarters as part of the centenial celebrations of the automaker. The sculpture has been placed in the center of a roundabout in Ingolstadt where it should pose absolutely no issues with driver distraction... right, guys? Check out the high-res gallery of images below, as well as the press release and a video of the sculpture being trucked in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/audi-gifts-home-town-with-10-ton-tt-upon-its-centennial-w-video/">after the jump</a>.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/">Audi TT Sculpture</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/0713_audi_tt_skulptur_einweihung_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090500_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090501_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090502_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090504_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Audi]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/audi-gifts-home-town-with-10-ton-tt-upon-its-centennial-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Audi gifts hometown with 10-ton TT as part of centennial celebration [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/audi-gifts-home-town-with-10-ton-tt-upon-its-centennial-w-video/">Audi gifts hometown with 10-ton TT as part of centennial celebration [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Jul 2009 11:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Alistair Gibson's sculptures from F1 car parts - Click above for a gallery of images</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Alistair Gibson spent 22 years in Formula 1 paddocks as a mechanic with teams like Benetton and BAR Honda. With decades of carbon fiber and shiny bits swimming in his head, it probably shouldn't come as a complete surprise that after leaving pit lane he has begun fabricating motorsports-influenced sculptures of fish.<br /><br />Each fish has a body in carbon fiber and comes with a spec sheet detailing the specific parts added to it. The brown trout you see above has a tail fin made of floor stays and comes mounted on a plank from the underside of Jensen Button's 2006 Hungarian GP-winning car. The hammerhead shark has eyes from rear wheel tether gearbox side shrouds, and comes mounted on a gearbox pull rod - also from the 2006 Hungarian GP car.<br /><br />There are no prices listed, but if you add Formula 1 pedigree, carbon fiber fabrication, F1 chassis parts, and the word "art," well, phrases like "their weight in gold" come to mind. If you're not in the art market right now, you can check out the gallery of sculptures, including a brown trout, hammerhead shark, mackerel, mako shark, and piranha, below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alistair-gibson-sculptures/low/">Alistair Gibson Sculptures</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alistair-gibson-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/brown_trout1_main_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alistair-gibson-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/brown_trout2_main_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alistair-gibson-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/brown_trout3_main_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alistair-gibson-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/brown_trout4_main_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alistair-gibson-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/hammerhead_main_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carbonart45.com/">Carbon Art</a> via <a href="http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=19751">Pistonheads</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/22/ex-f1-mechanic-alastair-gibson-brings-racing-materials-to-fish-s/">Ex-F1 Mechanic Alastair Gibson brings racing materials to fish sculptures. Automotive body design is certainly art, but the expression tends to be curtailed by the demands of commerce. Design a car that leans too far towards pure art, and the market will reject it. The symbiosis of needs has served the automotive industry well for the past century. On the fringes are the folks who perpetrate art for art's sake against the automobile. Most of these works are less accessible, though sometimes, there's a consociation that successfully melds higher concept art with the automobile. We're not talking about <a href="http://www.wilsonart.com/design/statement/viewarticle.asp?articleid=164">growing grass on your Riviera</a> here. <br /><br />British artist Benedict Radcliffe has created a full size rendering of a Toyota Corolla, making the world a more surreal place. The work is essentially a line drawing of the car rendered in three dimensions. Cool. Radcliffe's previous <a href="http://skirmisher.org/art-design/cops-unfazed-by-the-subaru-from-tron/">wireframe Impreza</a> was more in line with the pure art mindset, as the Corolla was commissioned for use in a video production. The white painted sculpture lends the photographs a surreal retouched look, and we're kind of bummed we weren't able to turn up the actual commercial, as the couple of shots of the car on set look impressive with the reflective black floor. We can't help but wonder what they chromakeyed behind it, too. <br /><br />[Source: Skirmisher.org]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wireframe-corolla/low/">Wireframe Corolla</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wireframe-corolla/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/toyota_wireframe_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wireframe-corolla/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/toyota_wireframe_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wireframe-corolla/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/toyota_wireframe_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wireframe-corolla/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/toyota_wireframe_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wireframe-corolla/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/toyota_wireframe_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/30/i-can-see-its-ribs-toyota-corolla-in-wireframe/">I can see its ribs! Ouch. There, it slipped out anyway. Now we can just move on. Rather than just stack up the red, white, and blue swill cans to the ceiling, as would most college students, the art and design scholar built a car instead. Kirby's <em>chef d'oeuvre</em> came to be when Budweiser rolled out its UK-only "<a href="http://www.budbucks.co.uk/">Budbucks</a>" promotion this summer - grand prize, a 1965 Mustang, Jack's favorite car. Whether or not he wins the contest, we bet it was one heck of a good time to consume the 5,000 beers that donated their containers. Then again, being a college student, he probably drank them all in one night, alone. <br /><br />Thanks to tipster Marsh<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/mapitem.php?pin=111">CAR</a>, <a href="http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?in_article_id=59382&amp;in_page_id=2">Metro.co.uk</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/01/what-to-do-with-those-empties-mustang-made-from-beer-cans/">What to do with those empties - Mustang made from beer cans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Aug 2007 09:02:00 EST. Though it only began competing at LeMans in 1999, the automaker has achieved six overall victories from its eight starts, including the first ever win for a diesel-powered car with its R10 last year. This Saturday before the start of the 75th running of the 24 Hours of LeMans, a 12-meter high sculpture will be unveiled in the circuit's "Village" to honor Audi's success in what many consider to be the most demanding race in the world. <br /><br />Fourtitude has pics of the "Audi Tower" as it looks today, which appears encased inside a giant box shaped like, well, a 12-meter-tall tower. According to Audi, the actual sculpture features 24 rotating rings that light up between the tower's base and its top. There's also a video wall on the sculpture's front face, and its glass surface will be etched with the names of every driver to have ever won the 24 Hours of LeMans. <br /><br />We're excited to see what this thing looks like, but have enough faith in Audi's aesthetic taste to expect a finely crafted work of art. You can check out a few more pics of the tower as it stands by clicking the Read link.<br /><br />[Source: Fourtitude]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/14/audi-tower-to-be-unveiled-at-lemans/">Audi Tower to be unveiled at LeMans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2007 15:03:00 EST. C'mon, it's a Maserati Quattroporte covered with 1,763 lbs. of shattered glass - truly a sight one does not see every day. But it's also an exquisite Italian luxury sedan sacrificed at the alter of modern art. The piece currently sits outside the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and welcomes guests to the second <a href="http://www.2nd.moscowbiennale.ru/">Moscow Art Biennale</a> that runs from March 1st through April 1st. <br /><br />[Source: Domusweb via <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2007/03/maserati-quattroporte-covered-with.html">CarScoop</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/luca-pancrazzi-shattered-glass-maserati-quattroporte/low/">Luca Pancrazzi "Shattered Glass" Maserati Quattroporte</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/luca-pancrazzi-shattered-glass-maserati-quattroporte/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/901alm_46_big_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/luca-pancrazzi-shattered-glass-maserati-quattroporte/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/901alm_47_big_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/luca-pancrazzi-shattered-glass-maserati-quattroporte/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/9012-dettaglio_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/19/that-is-one-sharp-maserati/">That is one sharp Maserati</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2007 12:01:00 EST. While most vehicles have their parts transplanted into new vehicles or converted into <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/08/is-your-next-tank-of-gas-from-seat-foam/ ">fuel</a>, some become works of art.<br /><br />The "Galaxyman" is one such art piece. Made from a used Ford Galaxy MPV, the sculpture&nbsp;is one of German performance artist HA Schult's latest works. Schult first displayed his 1,000(!) similar sculptures in 1996, and has brought the exhibit around the world to such places as the Egyptian pyramids and the Great Wall of China. The exhibit is currently on display in front of the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, and will touch U.S. soil later this year while stopping in New York City.<br /><br />[Sources: Ford Motor Company; World Car Fans]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/15/recycled-ford-galaxy-mpv-travels-world-as-galaxyman/">Recycled Ford MPV travelling world as 'Galaxyman'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 15 May 2006 18:03:00 EST.
