64General Motors Recall List

Is your vehicle under recall?

It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects.

76GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.

General Motors may have made a few mistakes when it came to the whole ignition-switch debacle, and it will likely be dealing with the consequences for some time to come. But you have to hand it to Mary Barra and her team, because they're determined to clean house and avoid the same mistakes. That's why the biggest of the Big Three automakers in Detroit has been issuing recalls left, right and Renaissance Center. Aside from those vehicles fitted with the faulty ignition switches, GM has recalled

111GM recalling another 1.3 million cars over power steering woes

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that their power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.

73The good, the bad, the ugly of changing headlight bulbs

As cars becomes more sophisticated, it seems like they are increasingly becoming more complicated. Remember the days when you could just go to your local auto parts store to pick up a new headlight bulb and then replace the burned-out bulb in about a minute in the parking lot? Well, that may still be true for some models, but for a growing number of vehicles, this simple repair has become so difficult – and often time-consuming – that Autoline Detroit felt the need to produce a how-t

20GM recalling 67k Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura models in Canada

General Motors is recalling a total of 67,414 sedans in Canada for power steering failures. The campaign covers 2005, 2006 and 2008 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx models as well as Pontiac G6 vehicles. The 2008 Saturn Aura is also included in the recall. Transport Canada says while power steering may fail, drivers will still be able to maintain control of their vehicle with additional steering effort. Owners will be notified of the failure by a chime and an illuminated warning light on the ins

40GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.

36NHTSA investigating GM gearbox issues

The New York Times reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has broadened its investigation into faulty transmissions used in the Saturn Aura. A total of nearly 89,000 vehicles are now being looked at, including 2007-2008 Auras and 2008 Saturn Aura Green Line hybrid models. Before the investigation's expansion, about 44,000 units from the 2007 model year were under scrutiny. Multiple crash incidents have been reported, and General Motors apparently says the problem is limi

45Confirmed: GM and Penske outline deal for Saturn - Aura, Vue, Outlook to live on

Confirming a report we posted on earlier today, General Motors has reached a preliminary agreement to handover the Saturn marque to the Penske Automotive Group. In GM's official statement after the jump, the automaker says that the memorandum of understanding would entitle Penske to the brand's 350+ dealerships, the rights to the name and its associated iconography, as well as continued production of the Aura, Vue, and Outlook on a contract basis. As expected, the dormant Astra hatchback and the

47BREAKING: GM reportedly agrees to sell Saturn to Penske

According to The New York Times, General Motors has come to terms with a consortium led by industry icon Roger Penske to sell its ailing Saturn brand. 31GM recall affects 277,000 models with shifter problem

Citing a defect that can cause a parked vehicle to roll away, General Motors is recalling 277,000 cars and trucks. The models involved, all built for the 2009 model year, may have a loose clip on their transmission shift cable. The failure of the clip to be locked into place may prevent the transmission from moving into Park – even if the driver moves the shift lever into the proper position. GM has told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that dealers will inspect the trans

51The World According to Lutz: fewer brands, more marketing

In a moment that makes us want to put on our most pensive face and say "Yes... that's profound...", Bob Lutz has said "It's really much better to have fewer brands, do it well and then market the hell out of them." Specifically, he's talking about the fact that a car like the Saturn Aura -- Saturn's take on the Chevy Malibu -- hasn't done nearly as well as the Malibu. So far this year the Aura trails the Malibu almost 3-to-1. Why? Because the Malibu got pushed out of the gate with a marketing bu

AddHere comes the hurt: GM will "temporary idle" 30% of its production next quarter

Citing "rapidly deteriorating market conditions," GM announced major reductions today for its production plans starting in the first quarter of 2009. Plants throughout the US, Canada and Mexico will have shifts and lines "temporary idled" while GM deals with declining sales. All told, about 250,000 units will be removed from production, GM said in a statement. Most, but certainly not all, of the idled plants currently build large vehicles, something GM recently apologized for. You can find a ful
