Rather than prepare, we're going with gut reactions. Starting it off, we mull over the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/16/indianapolis-loses-f1-gains-motogp-in-2008/">loss of the USGP</a> from Indianapolis, and postulate on where else F1 may pop up in the US. An F1 race on the Vegas strip would be the bomb. Staying with motorsports, we marvel at how Team SARD <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/18/toyota-sard-entering-supra-hv-r-hybrid-racer-in-tokachi-24-hours/">spanked everyone</a> extremely hard at Tokachi with a hybridized Supra GT. We're sure that racing will improve the hybrid breed at a much steeper pace than conventional powerplants. In other racing news, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/14/splitsville-for-budweiser-and-earnhardt-jr/">Dale Junior has split from Budweiser</a>, so he'll have new livery to plaster all over his left-turn machine. <br /><br />Moving on from racing, we ponder the leakage and eventual announcement of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/14/first-official-images-of-the-2008-porsche-911-gt2/">Porsche 911 GT2</a>. It's as unassuming as a Porsche can get, but it packs 530 horsepower and uses the rear wheels to push top speed to the 200 MPH realm, while being a docile everyday car. While Porsches always make us giddy little schoolboys, Subaru's recent <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/16/subaru-pares-down-legacy-outback-offerings-for-2008/">model line revisions</a> have us alternating between cheers and jeers. The good: the Legacy SUS, or whatever the heck they call their Outback sedan is kaput. The bad: so is the straight Legacy wagon. We devolve into a styling review of Subaru's new corporate language for a while before surfacing again to discuss the inanity surrounding <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/obama-swaps-300c-for-escape-hybrid/">presidential candidates and hybrid vehicles</a>. Idiocy, 'nuff said. <br /><br />On a lighter note, we discuss the rumored <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/rumormill-disney-pixar-planning-second-lap-for-i-cars-i/">sequel</a> to Disney/Pixar's "Cars." Not surprising when you consider how lucrative the tie-ins usually are. Off entertainment and on to entertaining cars, we ogle the leaked pictures of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/scoop-falcon-orion-sans-camo/">FPV Falcon</a>, and discuss the future plans of that platform here in the US. It does look mean, so thanks to that janitor who picked these renderings out of the trash. Our pithy cavalcade keeps rolling along, and we chew over Bob Lutz's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/12/video-in-the-fastlane-iii-bobs-not-big-on-diesels-future-in-t/">latest comments</a> about the future of diesel powerplants in the US. It's odd that Bob is cool on diesel just as GM is poised to roll out new oil-burners. Wrapping up, we put out the call to action again for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/11/return-of-the-reader-ride/">Reader Ride</a> - add your pix to the Flickr pool and include details! The hour duration of Podcast #71 will give you enjoyment to <strong>and</strong> from work, enjoy!<br /><br /><a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s="><strong>SUBSCRIBE</strong></a> to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes<br /><a href="http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/autoblog/podcasts/auto20070716_0071.mp3"><strong>LISTEN</strong></a> to the show now<br /><a href="http://podcasts.autoblog.com/rss.xml"><strong>ADD</strong></a> the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/18/autoblog-podcast-71/">Autoblog Podcast #71</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 18 Jul 2007 15:20:00 EST. The converted Super GT-spec racing car did so convincingly, too. As the only GT-class car in the field, the Denso SARD Supra HV-R maintained a steady lead of several laps throughout the course of the race, and in the later hours, it essentially dialed things up a notch and ran away from the rest of the field. After starting <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/15/denso-sard-supra-hv-r-takes-the-pole-at-tokachi-24/">from the pole position</a>, the Supra completed 616 laps in the ensuing 24 hours -- 19 more than the second-place finisher. The victory marks the first of its type for a hybrid-powered vehicle. The Supra HV-R began life as a retired 480-horsepower Super GT racing car, which then had regenerative braking technology and a trio of hybrid motors added to it for this event. What bearing, if any, the success of the Supra HV-R has on Toyota's plans for production sports hybrid vehicles is unknown. With reports that the FT-HS concept is on its way to production, however, we'll likely be seeing how well a production-spec hybrid sports car fares soon enough.<br /><br />[Source: SARD]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/denso-sard-supra-hv-r">Denso SARD Supra HV-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/denso-sard-supra-hv-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/53350-b-toy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/denso-sard-supra-hv-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/53350toy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/denso-sard-supra-hv-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/53350-c-toy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/denso-sard-supra-hv-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/53350-a-toy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/denso-sard-supra-hv-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/sard_suprahv-r_hi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/16/hybrid-toyota-supra-wins-tokachi-24-hrs/">Hybrid Toyota Supra Wins Tokachi 24-Hour race</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 16 Jul 2007 08:31:00 EST. The Lexus went the distance, finishing 4th in its class and 17th overall. The 2007 edition of the contest is set for July 15th, and SARD will be back with another hybrid-powered machine. This year, however, it's going to be decidedly racier -- a Supra, to be exact. It would appear that the SARD folks are looking to possibly win it this time around. The newly-announced Denso SARD Supra HV-R began its life as a Supra GT racing car and will be powered by a hybridized Super GT-spec 3UZ-FE V8 displacing 4,480cc that dishes out 480 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque.<br /><br />The hybrid system for the car will incorporate regenerative braking, a pair of 10kW in-wheel motors up front and a 150kW motor at the rear. It'll weigh in at a little over 2300 pounds. The provisional race livery was revealed in the artwork shown above, and we'll have more whenever SARD rolls out the finished car. Not a bad way to make use of a retired racer, eh? SARD currently runs the Denso Lexus SC430 in Japan's Super GT series, too. <br /><br />[Source: SARD]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/18/toyota-sard-entering-supra-hv-r-hybrid-racer-in-tokachi-24-hours/">Toyota SARD entering Supra HV-R hybrid racer in Tokachi 24 hours</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 10:56:00 EST.
