The last time Volkswagen moved this many vehicles in America in one year, Richard Nixon was still a President in good standing, Let It Be was a radio hit and each car wearing the VW badge boasted an air-cooled engine. That's right, with a grand total of 580,286 vehicles sold in the US last year, the VW Group has broken its own four-decades-old sales record by 2,899 vehicles.

Of that 580k total sold, 438k were Volkswagens and 139k were Audi products - increases of 35.1 percent and 18.5 percent, respectively, in year-over-year sales. The ultra-premium members of the VW group also fared well; Bentley delivered 2,315 vehicles for a 23.3-precent increase, and Lamborghini delivered 520 units for a 52.9-percent jump. Bugatti, we're told is "right on track."

Jetta (pictured) sales paced the marque with 170k models sold, and Passat also finished very strong with sales of 117k total. Tiguan also racked up its best year on file, with 31,731 models shifted.

The company expects what it is calling "moderate growth" for the 2013 sales year ahead, though perhaps not at so blistering a rate as it racked up in 2012. Scroll down to read the official Volkswagen press release.
Continue reading Volkswagen breaks 40-year-old sales record in 2012

Volkswagen breaks 40-year-old sales record in 2012 originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 13 Jan 2013 18:00:00 EST.
Audi may not have the market share of its German rivals here in the States, but that dynamic appears to be changing. Audi announced that 2011 is already a record-setting year here in the U.S., besting its 2010 record by Thanksgiving weekend.

Audi has already sold 104,906 vehicles through November 30, better than the 101,629 units sold in all of of 2010. December is traditionally a strong sales month (who wouldn't want an R8 for Christmas?), which should only add more distance between the old sales record and the new mark. Audi Certified pre-owned sales also had a banner year, moving 33,102 used vehicles so far in 2011, beating the previous high of 32,108 units in 2008.

Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen sounds pleased with the brand's progress in the U.S., attributing the success to "the steady arrival of exciting new models that have captured the imagination of the American premium car customer." Hit the jump to read the brag-tastic Audi press release.
Continue reading Audi sets U.S. annual sales record with a month to spare

Audi sets U.S. annual sales record with a month to spare originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 04 Dec 2011 14:02:00 EST.
Things are going pretty well over at Audi. In fact, 2006 was such a successful year Audi has adjusted its 2015 production forecast from 1.4 million to 1.5 million. 2015 you say? We're with you on that one. Lofty goals or not, Audi did have a bang-up year in 2006, highlighted by $1.7 billion in profits, 905,000 unit sales, and successful newer models like the A3 and Q7. '07 has begun on a positive note as well, with January global sales hitting 75,000 units. Audi isn't planning to hit the one million mark until 2008. If you do the math, the automaker is looking to average an additional 70,000+ sales year over year to hit the 1.5 million mark by 2015.

Audi's on a roll, seeing 11 consecutive years of sales gains as they enter more markets with products like the Q7, A3, R8, and the forthcoming A5. While additional sales gains for the brand appear to be a reasonable expectation, reaching the 2015 finish line in first place seems like a bit of a stretch. BMW is looking to increase sales to 1.6 million by 2010 and Mercedes has been increasing its product range in recent years as well. If the Audi keeps throwing out good-looking new models at a fast rate, we think the race will be a fun one to watch no matter who wins. Check out the Audi press release after the jump.
