When Pontiac, Hummer and Saturn were killed off, at least current owners never had to question where they would have to take their vehicle in case it needed to be serviced. The same couldn't be said for Saab owners... until now. General Motors and Saab Automobile Parts North America (the remaining entity of the bankrupted automaker) have signed an agreement that provides 179 service centers to current Saab owners to receive factory-trained technicians and official Saab replacement parts.

These warranty service providers will have all the tools, training and parts to maintain and repair Saab vehicles, and they will also have access to a technical assistance center for the technicians. Next year, SPNA will also set up a customer assistance center, which will likely be most useful in helping current owners find repair shows, as well as a program called Saab Secure to give added service support to owners of late model (2010 and 2011 model year) Saab vehicles. Finally, to make sure customers have a sufficient parts supply to keep their cars on the road, SPNA operates out of a 153,000 square foot warehouse in Michigan that has the ability to ship more than 3,000 parts orders per day.

GM's official press release on the agreement is posted after the jump.
Continue reading Deal brokered to get Saab warranty service honored at GM dealers

Deal brokered to get Saab warranty service honored at GM dealers originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 24 Dec 2012 11:01:00 EST.
As previously reported, Saab has announced that it is ceasing all warranty coverage on its vehicles in North America in the wake of its official bankruptcy in its home country of Sweden. That's bad news for anyone who's purchased a vehicle from Saab here in the States expecting to receive a few years of warranty coverage, but Saab Cars USA CEO Tim Colbeck is hoping to offer a solution. Speaking to The Detroit Bureau, he said:

"We're committed to develop a way to handle warranties for all owners of 2010 and 2011 Saab models. [The goal is to] reinstate (warranty coverage) as quickly as we can."

That's all well and good, but there's currently no plan to actually make it happen. While both Saab Cars USA and Saab Parts, the company that provides spare parts for Saab vehicles, are both still in business, Colbeck says that his company cannot reimburse dealers for warranty work at this time. That means either the dealer or the customer will be stuck holding the bill.

In one bit of good news for some Saab owners, General Motors has announced that it will step up to the plate and provide warranty service for any vehicles built while it owned the Swedish marque. According to Consumer Reports, that means Saab 9-3, 9-5 and 9-7X models built before January 1, 2010, should be under warranty from GM until those warranties expire.
Saab USA still looking for ways to honor warranties originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 18:28:00 EST.
According to a leaked memo to Saab dealers obtained by Autoblog, the bankrupt automaker is ceasing all warranty coverage on its vehicles in North America.

The memo was sent out Monday following a Swedish court's approval of Saab's bankruptcy petition and - as we suspected - all new vehicles will be sold "as is."

The North American branch of Saab also is suspending the payment of new car, powertrain, emissions and parts warranties, along with recall campaigns, certified pre-owned coverage and no-charge maintenance programs. There's no telling if the suspension is a permanent action or simply a temporary one -Saab will likely need to sift through its bankruptcy proceedings before that picture becomes any clearer for consumers.
Just yesterday, Susan Docherty, VP of Buick/Pontiac/GMC, published a post on GM's Fastlane blog saying that "Pontiac is alive and kicking, and we are still part of GM's future plans." Fair enough, but what about Saturn and Saab?

A few weeks back, Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak sent reassuring letters to the owners of Saturn automobiles suggesting that the brand will live on, even if that means bringing in products from other automakers. Now, Mark C. McNabb, Vice President of GM's Premium Channel, has done the same for Saab owners. The two notes follow a similar pattern, first reminding owners why their specific brand is different from the rest and then highlighting why its corporate parents are pushing it out of the nest.

The underlining theme in both letters is one of hope for a future where each brand is able to carve out its own profitable niche in the global automotive marketplace and, of course, soliciting for continued sales from brand loyalists with assurances that their warranties will remain intact.

Read the letter from Mark McNabb after the jump.

[Source: Saab]
Continue reading GM sends reassuring letter to Saab owners

GM sends reassuring letter to Saab owners originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 15:20:00 EST. Effective immediately for 2009 models, all powertrain warranties on Saab vehicles will be reduced to four-years or 50,000 miles. Most media outlets, including Automotive News, are reporting that Saab's current warranty is seven-years and 100,000 miles for its powertrains, but that's inaccurate. Saab's powertrain warranty has the been the same as the rest of GM's brands since they were all increased in September, 2006 to five-years or 100,000 miles. So the new Saab powertrain warranty lops one year and 50,000 miles off the old one. The brand will keep its free scheduled maintenance offer for three-years or 36,000 miles, however, to remain somewhat competitive with other entry-level luxury marques. GM noted that no other brands are reducing their warranties, just Saab, so you better hope your brand new 9-3 was built on a Wednesday.

[Source: All Cars, All the Time]
GM cuts Saab powertrain warranty down to four years/50,000 miles originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 15:27:00 EST.
