Honda has remained a formidable force at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, an annual event held at the Thunderhill circuit between Sacramento and Redding, California. The automaker has campaigned a number of vehicles at the 25-hour enduro over the years, including a duo of Civic Sis and a handful of Acuras. This year, Honda's bringing out its newest track slut, the S2000 CR, to compete in the Performance Touring C segment. Not only is this a chance for the automaker to show how competitive the new lightweight variant of the S2000 can be on the track, it's also rolling proof of how it can be adapted for serious competition. Two S2000 CRs have been outfitted with a McMahen Autosports cage, BF Goodrich g-Force R1 racing tires, a single outlet exhaust sourced from AEM, Cobalt Friction XR racing brake pads and Goodridge stainless steel brake lines.

We're in the midst of contemplating coverage of the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, and if we do make it up there to live blog the event, we'll be keeping a close eye on the Honda boys.

The hardcore, track-ready Honda S2000 Club Racer unveiled back in April at the New York Auto turned quite a few heads, and it looks like many of its visual cues are headed to Japan in the form of the JDM S2000 Type-S. A teaser for the S2000 Type-S is now up on the automaker's Japanese website showing the JDM car wearing the same wheels, bodywork, and rear wing as the USDM Club Racer. In contrast to the CR, however, the Type-S appears to have retained its folding soft top. The Club Racer has had that hardware removed for weight reasons and wears a cover with integrated fairings (or a removable aluminum hardtop) instead. You can compare the two cars by looking at the galleries below. The Honda Japan website doesn't give any specific Type-S details at the moment, but we grabbed screenshots of the images made available so far. Expect to see the S2000 Type-S revealed for all next month at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Honda recently invited select members of the automotive media to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to sample the track prowess of its new 2008 Honda S2000 Club Racer. We'll just assume our evite got lost in the ether. Though driving impressions were supposed to be embargoed until 8/15, someone jumped the gun. It wasn't Inside Line, but we refer you to their account of the car since it's the only one we can find now, and we just want to know what the S2000 CR is like.

According to IL, the S2000 CR is "the most tightly focused, single-minded performance roadster on the market. Even a Lotus Elise has air-conditioning." That last charge against the S2000 CR is really the crux of the matter, as Honda has stripped the S2000 here of all manner of civility. No soft-top, no radio, no A/C. In their place goes a curb-scraping front chin spoiler and a rear wing that will blot out the sun.
