Not wanting to be left out of the teaser fun that comes before the Detroit Auto Show - don't forget amidst all this obscured-view hubbub that the actual show starts next week Monday - Nissan has deposited this partial image of what it is calling the Resonance Concept on its Facebook page. Save for letting us know that the real deal will be unveiled on January 15, no information has been given in concert with the mysterious picture.

Given the distinctly crossover-esque shape of the rendered vehicle, it's a pretty good guess that the Resonance will preview the design direction for either a new Murano or Rogue, with our money being on the former. Expect the concept to feature a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, and some truly impressive LED real estate on its backside. Much more info to come next week - live from the floor of Cobo.
Nissan teases Resonance Concept, possible Murano successor originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 10 Jan 2013 13:00:00 EST. Nissan already announced that production of the next-generation Rogue crossover will shift to its Smyrna, Tennessee facility, but apparently, that won't be enough. In a new statement, the Renault-Nissan Alliance confirms that Rogue models will also be built at the Renault Samsung facility in Busan, South Korea.

The current Rogue, pictured above, is built in Japan. The next-generation Rogue is set to launch sometime in the next year as part of Nissan's new-product onslaught.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance plans to invest $160 million in its Busan facility to accommodate production of the new Rogue. According to the company, Busan will produce around 80,000 Rogues annually - that's in addition to the estimated 100,000 to 120,000 Rogues that will come out of Tennessee.

Rogue production in Korea is scheduled to start in 2014, while Smyrna starts building the new crossover next year. The company's official statement is posted below.
Continue reading Nissan will start building Rogue in Korea to meet U.S. demand

Nissan will start building Rogue in Korea to meet U.S. demand originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 22 Jul 2012 16:03:00 EST.
Nissan is in the process of overhauling five of its most popular models, beginning with the 2013 Altima that just went into production at the automaker's Smyrna, Tennessee facility. Next up is the all-new Pathfinder, which made its debut in Detroit earlier this year, and now Kicking Tires reports that the smaller Rogue crossover will be the next vehicle to get a much-needed freshening.

Unlike the current model, the next-generation Rogue will be built in the United States, specifically in - you guessed it - Tennessee. That aside, we don't know much else about the next Rogue, though Nissan's Hi-Cross concept from the 2012 Geneva Motor Show (pictured) certainly gives us a good glimpse as to what's possible, at least in terms of design.

The Hi-Cross, a seven-seat crossover, featured a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine coupled to a hybrid powertrain and a continuously variable transmission. It's hard to say if this sort of powertrain will find its way into the new Rogue, though. Rumors had circulated for quite some time about the new Altima using a four-cylinder turbo setup, but the production car makes due with refreshed versions of the existing four- and six-cylinder engines.
Nissan confirms next-gen Rogue will be built in Tennessee originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 22 May 2012 14:30:00 EST.
The next year and a half will be an interesting period for Nissan. The automaker has announced that it will launch five new models over the course of 15 months, starting with the 2013 Altima that made its debut at the New York Auto Show last week. What's next? Take a close look at the image above and those mysterious shapes under the white sheets aren't exactly tough to decipher.

Left to right, first up is clearly the Versa hatchback, the five-door follower of the not-so-highly regarded sedan that launched late last year. Want another glimpse of what could be in store for the large-rumped Versa? Have a glance at its overseas cousin, the Tiida. The North American model will no doubt be different, but the Tiida indeed previews what could be in store.

The next two models aren't really a surprise - that big crossover is the Pathfinder that we've already seen in just-about-done concept form, and the middle car is the midsize Altima sedan. Moving one more space to the right, there's a smaller CUV that is, without question, the next-generation Rogue. Lastly, that's the new Sentra hanging out at the far right. The next Sentra has already been tipped to receive an Altima-like front fascia, and that's immediately noticeable even under the white sheet.

The 2013 Pathfinder will go on sale later this year, following the launch of the new Altima. As for what's next, your guess is as good as ours. As Car and Driver reports, the fact that Nissan has confirmed that one of these cars is the new Sentra makes us think it'll be the next one to arrive, not to mention the fact that it's the one most desperately in need of replacement.
Nissan teases new Sentra, Rogue and more originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 10 Apr 2012 09:28:00 EST.
The earthquake and tsunami in Japan wreaked havoc on the automotive supply chain. Toyota, Honda and Nissan lost many thousands of units to the natural disaster, which meant that car buyers here in the U.S. sometimes had a difficult time finding and buying certain vehicles. We know how these disruptions hurt sales, but a study conducted by ALG shows that prices were also shifted because of the shortage of key vehicles.

ALG predicted that a 20-day production disruption would lead to 1.5-percent higher prices, and when production stoppage reaches 100 days, the anticipated spike in prices could be up to 10 percent. So, how'd it turn out in reality?

The study looked at the Nissan Rogue and the Honda Fit. ALG found that Rogue production was back up and running by May, and the CUV went up in price by three percent by June. That's a significant margin, especially when compared to the overall CUV price increase of .3 percent during that time.

The Honda Fit was even harder to find between March and June, and the numbers bear this out. The price of the Fit jumped by 5.6 percent during that time. The compact segment as a whole jumped by a still significant 2.3 percent during that time frame.

Nissan and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced a recall for certain 2011 Rogue models. Some vehicles may have been manufactured with an incorrectly installed circuit board within the vehicle's electronic power steering assist control unit. Nissan says that, as a result, the terminal may experience additional stress on the circuit board's solder, which could eventually result in a failure. Such a failure could cause the power steering assist to stop working altogether, which may increase the amount of effort it takes to steer the vehicle and result in a crash.

A total of 7,365 2011 Nissan Rogue models are covered in the recall, and owners can expect to be notified by Nissan soon. The automaker will replace the electronic power steering module free of charge if necessary once the recall begins this month.
Continue reading Nissan recalls 2011 Rogue over power steering concern

Nissan recalls 2011 Rogue over power steering concern originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 05 Dec 2011 09:30:00 EST. Nissan has confirmed to Autoblog that the Krom versions of its Cube hatchback and Rogue crossover will be discontinued for the 2012 model year. The Cube Krom, based off of the 1.8 S model, was introduced at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show, while the Rogue Krom joined the lineup later that year as a 2010 model. Both vehicles were set apart from their kin with unique front fascias featuring horizontal chrome bars, as well as dark chrome wheels.

"They sold just fine, but they were billed as limited editions," Nissan spokesperson John Schilling tells Autoblog. When asked about the possibility of the Krom nameplate being resurrected for future models, Schilling tells us that there's "nothing planned in the near future."

For 2012, the Cube will continue to be offered in 1.8, 1.8 S and 1.8 SL trims, while the Rogue will carry on in S and SV variants. The 2012 Cube will arrive at dealerships this winter, while the 2012 Rogue will be available starting this summer.

Nissan discontinues Krom Cube and Rogue models for 2012 originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 14 Jun 2011 17:29:00 EST.
IIHS small car bumper crash tests - Click above for high-res image gallery

As you're likely aware, all cars must pass strict federal guidelines in order to be sold in America, and those regulations include specific bumper heights. What you may not know, however, is that trucks and SUVs aren't required to meet the same guidelines as passenger cars. Factor in the huge numbers of SUVs and crossovers that are sold each year and you begin to see why can cause major problems.

Perhaps the best way to illustrate this conundrum is by way of a photo gallery, which the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has so thoughtfully provided. As is the Institute's custom, it has gone ahead and crashed a small sedan head-to-head into a typical SUV from the same automaker at low speeds (10mph). The results are conclusive, and they mean big repair bills for the owner (or, naturally, their insurance company) of the smaller car. Despite the modest velocities, repair estimates ranged from $850 to a whopping $6,015.

Of the seven pairs of vehicles damaged-for-a-cause in this round of low-speed testing, the Honda Civic and CR-V performed the best, with bumpers that actually overlapped by more than two inches. By way of contrast, the Toyota Corolla and RAV4 performed the worst. Says Joe Nolan, the Institute's chief administrative officer:

The RAV4's so-called bumper is really just a stamped piece of sheet metal supporting the bumper cover. So instead of engaging a strong bumper, the striking Corolla hit the spare tire mounted on the RAV4's tailgate. The spare isn't designed to absorb crash energy, so it damaged the Corolla's hood, grille, headlights, air conditioner, and radiator support and crushed the RAV4's tailgate and rear body panels.

Ouch. For a complete visual understanding of all the carnage, be sure to check out our high-res image gallery below. And for more explanation on each pair's results - including the Ford Focus and Escape, Kia Forte and Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Sentra and Rogue - click past the break for the official press release.

We don't envy the hordes of product planners working in the auto world. America's concept of quality transportation seems to shift with the seasons, leaving analysts scrambling to anticipate amorphous market demands while automakers fill barely justifiable voids in their product line. If you need proof, look no further than the scorching hot CUV segment. Buyers have developed a seemingly unquenchable thirst for small, car-based high riders, and nearly every automaker sports at least one tall hatch in their lineup.

Nissan hopped on the small crossover train belately in 2007 when it introduced the Rogue as a 2008 model. The pint-sized 'ute borrowed plenty of styling cues from the likes of the larger Murano and came equipped with an efficient and capable drivetrain built to suit a variety of tastes. But that was three years ago. In order to keep the Rogue as fresh as possible until a full-on next-generation model arrives, the company has rolled out a mildly updated version for 2011. It may not be the front-runner in its class, but the refreshed 2011 Rogue promises to hit all of the same notes that American buyers are singing right now. We spent a week with one to find out.
Nissan is recalling a number of models due to overheating Garmin navigation units. Cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with Nuvi 750, 760 and 765 GPS devices are at risk for a vehicle fire due to overheating batteries in the devices. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects Nissan's Altima, Frontier, Pathfinder, Rogue, Sentra, Versa and Xterra models sold with the Garmin devices between 2008 and 2010. NHTSA does not say exactly how many vehicles will be effected by the defective batteries.

Garmin technicians will make the necessary repairs to the GPS units by replacing the battery with a new, less-toasty unit and adding an additional spacer between the battery and the rest of the device. The repair won't cost owners anything other than a little time and a trip to the local dealership. Nissan will notify owners directly about the recall, which is scheduled to begin sometime during this month. Suzuki is facing a similar recall, as well - these Garmin navigation units are fitted in the SX4, Grand Vitara and Equator.

The car-savy folk over at Consumer Reports have released a new list of its best picks for vehicles suited for teens and seniors. The group suggests parents looking to send their teens off to school with a newer vehicle should try to avoid the common misstep of assuming that a larger SUV is safer than its smaller, more efficient counterparts. Instead of opting for a heavy roller, Consumer Reports suggests that parents look toward cars with standard traction control and side curtain airbags - cars like the Mazda 3, Scion xB, Honda Accord or Nissan Rogue.

Meanwhile, the publication points to a number of models for seniors that offer good visibility and easy access, including the Honda Odyssey, Hyundai Azera and Subaru Forester XT Limited. As you might expect, CR notes that each of the vehicles on the list can boast at least average reliability and carry the publications' Recommended label.

Interestingly enough, the only vehicle that Consumer Reports recommends for both driver types is the Honda Accord.
We managed to make our way to the 23rd annual Z Car Convention at the Nissan North America headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee this weekend. Aside from a slew of Zed-related goodness of unmatched acclaim, the 2011 Nissan Rogue was also rolled out as part of the celebration. Overall, the little crossover sticks close to last year's recipe, though some subtle visual updates help the ute better stand out from the rest of the mall parking lot crowd.

The tweaked front fascia now has a more angular look aimed at giving the nose of the Rogue some definition. Likewise, the grille has been massaged to incorporate a larger Nissan badge, and the optional fog lights now reside in sculpted inserts. A chrome strip spans the 2011 Rogue's flanks, and a similar piece of brightwork now glams up the rear liftgate. Lastly, buyers who opt for the 2011 Nissan Rogue Krom or Rogue SL will get new 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, too. Otherwise, it's much of the same from Nissan's compact people hauler. Hit the jump for the official press release.

The 2011 Nissan Rogue is a getting a slight efresh when it goes on sale in mid-August. The most obvious external changes are a nose job that brings with it an eggcrate grille shaped more like the one on its bigger Murano sibling, along with new pockets around the foglamps that give the front a more sculpted appearance and revised front and rear spoilers. 18-inch wheels are also newly available for the SL and S Krōm Edition models. The exterior alterations strike us as subtle but handsome, particularly the new grille, which minimizes the odd 'chrome bucktooth' look of the 2010 model.

Perhaps the more important changes outside the vehicle are of the type that only James May would be likely to notice: spats in front of the wheels and a new underbody tray cut the aerodynamic drag and contribute to 1 mpg improvements in both the city and highway fuel economy numbers. The front-wheel-drive model is now EPA rated at 22/28 mpg while the all-wheel-drive variant manages 22/26 mpg. Inside, the Rogue doesn't look much different but does get upgraded entertainment systems.

The 2011 gets its first public showing this weekend at the annual Z Car Convention in Nashville, TN.

Men, take note: According to a new survey from research firm TrueCar, the Volkswagen New Beetle is (still) the ultimate car for women. Apparently, its combination of cute-as-a-button looks and affordable pricing make the reborn Bug a total hit with the fairer sex.

This data was determined not by some silly woman-on-the-street clipboard survey, but rather by looking at the registrations of more than 13 million vehicles over the past two years. We could have saved them quite a bit of work if they wanted to know that the New Beetle was a chick car, but whatever. There was some other interesting info gleaned from the research, including the revelation that 64% of all cars are registered by men despite the fact that there are more women (at 51% of the population, just a tad) than men in America.

Rounding out the top five vehicles that scored well with the mono-chromosomed gender were the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tucson, (saw this one coming) Volkswagen Eos and Volvo S40.

The wrath of Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano continues. Airlines are just now beginning to get brave enough to test the skies after airborne ash put a stop to all flights last week, and today there are new reports of volcanic activity putting everyone on notice. And while the volcano has left plenty of travelers stranded across Europe, the eruption is having a widespread impact on the manufacturing sector, too. Case in point: The Wall Street Journal reports that Nissan is suspending production at its plants in Fukuoka and Kanagawa. The reason? The Japanese plants use pneumatic sensors produced in Ireland that are delivered by aircraft, and that whole 'just-in-time' production methodology apparently doesn't jibe all that well with Icelandic ash.

If you've been anxiously waiting delivery of your new Nissan Cube, Murano or Rogue, odds are you're probably okay - for now. But all three models use the sensor in question, and as such, are facing production delays. The company doesn't know when the plants will be able to resume production, but odds are it will depend on when Iceland's volcano stops wreaking havoc on Europe's airspace.

Nissan 370Z 40th Anniversary Edition - click above for high-res image gallery

We're not apologizing to Nissan, but we were pretty flippantly dismissive of both the 40th Anniversary Z and the Rogue S Krom Edition. Why? Because both struck as as badge jobs. When we think of special edition Nissans, we think of V-Spec, and that typically entails more power and/or pumped up handling. But not with these two cars. Though at least the Krom gets a new front end, which sadly isn't nearly as eye-catching as the nose of the not-for-us 2010 Qashqai.

However, the truth of the matter is that our favorite ever special Nissan was the legendary Black Gold 10th Anniversary Datsun 280ZX (and the even rarer Black Red - only 500 made, as opposed to 3,000 Black Golds). And that car was little more than a plaque and a <strike>coke habit</strike> paint job. Our point? Nissan had better produce a theme song for this new car.

Anyhow, the prices of both the 40th Z and the Rogue Krom have just been announced. The Nissan 370Z 40th Anniversary Edition will set you back $38,860. Some of you might be asking why not spend the extra $330 and get the better-than-a-regular-370Z NISMO for $39,190? Well, Nissan will only be producing 1,000 40th Anniversary Zs. Other than that, we can't think of any reason. The Rogue S Krom Edition comes in at $23,940 for the front-wheel drive version, $25,140 if you want all-wheel drive. The 40AZ will be available in Q2 of 2010, the Krom in late Q3.
When we hear the word "Krom" we think of Conan the Barbarian in the crypt, finally acquiring that giant sword. Nissan, on the other hand, uses the word to signify its new specialty vehicle line. You've seen the factory-accessorized Cube Krom, and now Nissan apparently believes the time is right for a Rogue Krom. The front clip gets a GT-R-esque treatment, while the rear gets a center-exit exhaust with a sportier sound. The package sits on blinged-up wheels, and gets finished off with privacy glass, body-colored mirrors, and steering wheel audio controls.

Three color choices -- Venom Red, Wicket Black, and Gotham Gray -- will set off the Krom badge in the hopes of making this Rogue the baddest grocery-getter on the block. Maybe that way it won't be so awkward when you swing your sword over your head, scream "Krom!" and ask your next door neighbor, "Do you want to live forever?" It will be awkward when he calls the police on you, though.

Nissan didn't announce pricing on the Rogue Krom, but you can read about everything else in the press release after the jump.
The company hopes that by taking out the up-front cost of the battery, consumers will be more likely to buy an electric vehicle.

You may remember Better Place from a recent announcement that it will set up a similar network in the Bay Area. That system is also planned for a 2012 launch, which is also the date Better Place plans to flip the switch in Australia, Denmark and Israel. Sounds like somebody's gonna be busy.

Hawaii has some of the highest gasoline prices in the nation. This is one of the steps that the state is taking to reduce its dependence on oil. There's also the chance that beach-seeking tourists will take an island spin in one of the electrified Nissans, go back home and spread the green word.

[Source: Fortune]
Better Place gets OK to electrify Hawaii originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 17:58:00 EST. The problem is described as an issue with an electrical component that could interfere with the sensor system, which could then prevent the side airbag from deploying in certain circumstances. We gather from the report on Recall.gov that the sensor telling the car whether or not someone's riding shotgun could malfunction, and in the event of a crash the car could assume no one's sitting there at not deploy the passenger airbag. Most of the vehicles affected are 2007 or 2008 Nissan Altimas, tallying over 140,000 units of that model in all. Other models affected include '07 and '08 examples of the Infiniti EX35, G35 Sedan, G37 coupe and the Nissan 350Z, Rogue and Murano. The Japanese automaker claims that there have been no injuries as a result of the defect, but apparently it was deemed significant enough to pay for a recall and be safe today rather than sorry tomorrow. Owners of an affected Nissan vehicle can call 1-800-647-7261 and Infiniti owners can dial 1-800-662-6200 for more information, as dealers are able to test the system and replace the passenger-side seat cushion where the offending hardware is located.

[Source: Detroit News, Recalls.gov]
Nissan recalls 200,000 vehicles over passenger air bag issue originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 19:02:00 EST. The Rogue, which originally debuted in Detroit last January, joins a highly competitive segment that includes perennial best sellers, the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4.

Based off the automaker's "C" platform underpinning the new Sentra, the Rogue will get 170 HP and 175 lb.-ft. of torque sent to either the front wheels or all four wheels depending on spec.

Five packages are offered, beginning with the base SL 2WD model that starts at $19,250, while upping the ante with all wheel drive will boost the price another $1,200. The premium package on the SL 2WD model will set you back $1,900, while the AWD-equipped premium model gets a bump in the sticker by $2,200. A leather package and a moonroof are also available, priced at $1,800 and $800 respectively.

You can read through Nissan's full press release after the jump and check out the gallery below to see if the Rogue has what it takes to compete with the big boys in the CUV marketplace.

Gallery: Nissan Rogue

Continue reading Nissan prices Rogue from $19,250

Nissan prices Rogue from $19,250 originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 17 Sep 2007 08:55:00 EST.
