Fans of the Grand Theft Auto video game series rejoice! With GTA V hitting shelves on September 17, Rockstar Games has released a new trailer, only this time we get to see even more car action/destruction.

This video gives us a brief look of the game from the point of view of three main characters: Michael, Franklin and Trevor. In addition to cars, it looks like users can still operate motorcycles, airplanes and helicopters. The three-part trailer is posted below, but - for those familiar with the GTA series, this goes without saying - violence, language and nudity make this video not safe for work and children.

Grand Theft Auto V video screencap of Audi R8 clone

While not strictly a car game, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has always had quite a lot to offer the auto enthusiast video gamer. The hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V is no exception. In fact, based on the trailer for the game that Rockstar Games has just released, it may be the most cars-rich title in the series to date.

Though GTA is still a hair's breadth away from having fully real and licensed car models for its gameplay, the distance from reality has become smaller if we are to judge by this trailer. A very nearly real Audi R8 Spyder clone sort of stars in this trailer, and we see close copies of an Aston Martin DB5, BMW M3 Convertible, Volvo S80, and more. (The sandrail is fairly sweet, too).

Who doesn't welcome the return of a monstrosity called the Grotti Cheetah? After appearing in Grand Theft Auto III and the two Vice City and Liberty City stories, the vaguely Ferrari Testarossa-esque sports car with the incomparable handling and braking - but a distinct dislike for curbs - disappeared from GTA IV.

GTA V will see its return, the Cheetah prowling the streets of a fictionalized SoCal locale called Los Santos. Befitting the location, the Cheetah's also had some plastic surgery in the interim, shedding its Prancing Horse-face for something akin to a French concept car that did the nasty with a Mitsubishi Eclipse. At least, that's what we think from the single shot we have of it.

No complaints, though. As for transport, Rockstar Games released a trio of shots that show the Cheetah will be joined by a fighter jet with a bag of missiles and a bicycle with no visible brakes. In case you need a reminder of the good times shortly ahead, the GTA V trailer is just below.

Grand Theft Auto V

There are lots of automotive video games, from realistic racing games like Gran Turismo and Forza to fun driving games like Mario Kart to social games like Disc Drivin' for iOS. But there is only one Grand Theft Auto.

No other video game brings the dark humor inherent in mayhem like the GTA franchise, and it looks like a new installment will be here in a scant six months. According to a report on Joystiq, a Linked In resume for an animator and employee at game developer Rockstar was spotted listing Grand Theft Auto V with a shipping date of October 2012. Since then, the resume has been removed from the site and Rockstar is not commenting, according to the report.

Of course, the video game industry is as notorious for slipping shipping dates as it is for rumor mongering, so while you might want to place your preorder on Amazon, don't be surprised if you're still waiting come Christmas. Joystiq is skeptical about an October shipping date, pointing out that Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has already announced BioShock Infinite for an October launch, which would put the two titles in unnecessary competition.

Google Earth car chase - Click above to watch the video after the jump

If you can count the number of hours you spent blowing up pixilated cars in the very first Grand Theft Auto by the tens, the video after the jump will probably strike a chord. The genius souls over at Honest Directors have taken it upon themselves to whip up a car chase, complete with images borrowed from Google Earth. There's plenty of carnage, including an explosion or two, and a lot of other awesome special effects.

Midnight Club: LA is on its way, and the developers at Rockstar Games just released a new video of an Audi R8 doing its thing through the concrete jungle. The name of the game: arcade. Or better names might be 'free-for-all' and 'pedestrians, watch out!' It's cut like an MTV video, so it's hard to get a feel for the flow of the action, but all you need to know is that there'll be plenty of it -- action, that is. And if nothing else, it does seem to accurately depict how actual R8 drivers tend to pilot their cars... Follow the jump for the video.

Way back in nineties, this particular blogger had to get rid of his PlayStation because he was spending far too many nights on GranTurismo. Something about knocking a tenth of a second off our best time in the Mazda Demio was as addictive as air. Last Friday we spent an hour in front of the pre-production version of Midnight Club Los Angeles, and we've gotta admit... we're getting the itch for a PS3. Replacing several different cities for one highly detailed rendering of Los Angeles, the new Midnight Club is all about racing wherever you want -- in LA -- and however you want. Rockstar Games is a little busy right now ahead of its big release of Grand Theft Auto IV, but the video game developer had enough time to announce that the next installment of its Midnight Club racing series will land on the Xbox 360 and PS3 come September 9th. Joystiq reports that Midnight Club: Los Angeles will feature "no load times, no tracks, and no rules," which means much hooning can be had in the City of Angels with a large selection of infinitely customizable cars. Among those available to gamers will be the first use of the new Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro in a racing game. Having already been officially revealed to the public, the Challenger in Midnight Club: Los Angeles looks spot on, while the Camaro appears to sport a few quirky details like its headlights that Chevy probably didn't want to reveal in a video game or just weren't ready when it came to digitize the car. Driving your dream cars in a video game certainly doesn't replace the real thing, but it's fun to do things with a digital version that you wouldn't dream of inflicting on an actual car.
