<br /> There are stories of people with monomaniacal vision, as well as the determination to see it through no matter what it takes. The tale of the guy who has little but his own will, who locks himself in a room, emerging years later with something that makes you go "Oh... wow..." He's the guy whose story breaks through the carapace of cynicism that accretes after years on the job and makes you say "I see!" <br /> <br /> In this case, the guy in question is Wael Rizk (pronounced wah-ell ri-zik), and the car you see above, the RA, is what emerged from his monomaniacal vision. He didn't exactly lock himself in a room, nor did he have only his will to go on, but we can let all that go - what he dreamed and built, and what we got to drive in Monterey, still has us going "Oh... wow..."<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/quick-drive-rizk-ra">Quick Drive: Rizk RA</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/quick-drive-rizk-ra/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/rizkra000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="rizkra000" title="rizkra000" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/quick-drive-rizk-ra/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/rizkra001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="rizkra001" title="rizkra001" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/quick-drive-rizk-ra/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/rizkra002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="rizkra002" title="rizkra002" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/quick-drive-rizk-ra/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/rizkra003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="rizkra003" title="rizkra003" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/quick-drive-rizk-ra/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/rizkra004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="rizkra004" title="rizkra004" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 <a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/">Drew Phillips</a> / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/04/quick-drive-rizk-ra-marries-old-and-new-to-create-one-beautiful/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Quick Drive: Rizk RA marries old and new to create one beautiful baby</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/04/quick-drive-rizk-ra-marries-old-and-new-to-create-one-beautiful/">Quick Drive: Rizk RA marries old and new to create one beautiful baby</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 04 Sep 2009 11:56:00 EST. <br />They don't build 'em like they used to, they build 'em better. But, it could be argued, they don't style 'em like they used to. A handful of purists have taken the best from both worlds, recreating classic automotive shapes using modern technology. The results - like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/18/like-they-used-to-sport-speciale-by-the-creative-workshop/">Creative Sport Speciale</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/23/gullwing-america-modernizes-the-mercedes-300sl/">Gullwing-America 300SL Panamerica</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/15/one-for-the-roadster-huet-brothers-to-offer-hb-special-in-limit/">Huet Brothers Special</a> - have always fascinated us, and here's the latest: a recreation of the famous 1957 Aston Martin DBR2 racer, built with the latest methods by Rizk Auto of Phoenix, Arizona.<br /><br />The RA DBR2 is built around a state-of-the-art carbon-fiber tub and aluminum honeycomb monocoque chassis that weighs a feather-like 100 kgs (220 lbs), overlaid with carbon-fiber body panels lined with Nomex. Sound space-age enough for a classic roadster? How about some Aerogel, a NASA-developed heat insulator being used in a roadgoing automobile for the first time. Each example is built to order, and customers can specify their choice of powertrain options between Jaguar-derived inline-six and V12 engines or a Corvette LS3 V8. The original Aston DBR2 chalked up a handful of victories in its day - if Rizk Auto had put it together, maybe it would have won even more. Details in the press release after the jump and high-res image gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2">Rizk Auto recreation 1957 Aston Martin DBR2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/perspective_front_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/side_view_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/elevated_side_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/rear_view_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/perspective_rear_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.rizkauto.com/Rizk.html">Rizk Auto</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/14/best-of-both-worlds-rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of Both Worlds: Rizk Auto recreation 1957 Aston Martin DBR2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/14/best-of-both-worlds-rizk-auto-recreation-1957-aston-martin-dbr2/">Best of Both Worlds: Rizk Auto recreation 1957 Aston Martin DBR2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 18:58:00 EST.
