The final lap of the 12 Hours of Sebring has been posted on YouTube (thanks to commenter Devin Sylvester for sending the link). If you read our recap over the weekend, you already have an idea of how it went down. Now you can follow the jump to watch the unbelievably exciting last-lap GT2 showdown between Flying Lizard's Jorg Bergmeister, driving one of the team's new Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs, and Risi Competizione's Jaime Melo in his team's Ferrari 430GT. The video starts as the final lap begins, with Bergmeister trailing Melo byjust half a second after twelve full hours of racing. Both cars were equipped with on-board cameras, so the coverage is simply fantastic. We can watch this all day and never get bored.

[Source: YouTube]
Continue reading VIDEO: The GT2 finish at Sebring

VIDEO: The GT2 finish at Sebring originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 19 Mar 2007 12:26:00 EST. First Dyson announces it's dropping a division to start racing LMP2 in a Porsche RS Spyder, and now Petersen/White Lightning is switching from its two-time championship winning 911s to a Ferrari F430 GT. That 2,425 lb. Ferrari is essentially the same as the Risi Competizione car that won the GT2 Team Championship last year in its first season of racing.

After two consecutive ALMS Drivers' Championships, the team will be getting a higher level of factory support than ever before. By getting their car through the Ferrari Corse Clienti program, they will get a thoroughly sorted machine with lots of factory help, but they will still be able to compete for the independent championship. That would be their third in a row if the sophomore Ferrari performs as well as hoped.

The F430 GT will continue to wear the neon yellow, red and white paintjob on their No. 31 car when they go for the threepeat starting at the season-opener, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March. Petersen/White Lightning has campaigned 911s of one type or another in the American Le Mans Series since 1999, racking up 17 class wins including the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, and the Petit Le Mans twice as well.

So far it looks like GT2 will feature 5 Porsches, 4 Ferraris, 2 Panoz, and possibly those 2 Spykers. That would be a very entertaining field that might actually start to bring ALMS to the forefront of America's racing consciousness. Still more changes are expected before the New Year, so we'll keep you posted.

[Source: ALMS]

Thanks for the tip, <strike>Mr. ALMS</strike> Mike!
Petersen/White Lightning to use Ferrari F430 GT in '07 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 21 Dec 2006 15:28:00 EST. Suddenly, you realize you're supposed to meet your significant other at 4:00 p.m., but you've lost all track of time. You're far too busy driving to shift your view waaaay over there to your dashboard clock and you don't dare take your hand off the wheel so you can see your wristwatch, but you need to know what time it is - now! What will you do?

Well, there are watches just for people like you in situations like this - drivers watches, like this LP Italy Stratosphere Competizione model. Yours for $2,195, the Competizione has a three-dimensional case that angles the watch so you can figure out how late you are without taking your hand off the wheel. (Those numbers are a bit tiny though, better make sure your vision is 20-20.)

The Stratosphere Competizione may even inspire your driving - it's the official time piece of the Risi Competizione American Le Mans team and its Ferrar F430GT.

[Source: Luxist via Into Gear] Thanks, Noah!

Keep your hands on the wheel: watches for drivers originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 02 Aug 2006 20:04:00 EST.
