Wolfgang Dürheimer, Audi's head of research and development, has been dropping all kinds of savory hints about all kinds of impressive vehicles that Audi may or may not build. In that former camp, rumors on the next-generation Audi TT form the next volley fired from the blunderbuss of speculation, with intel from various sources pointing to a return to the wow factor of the original. Fourtitude, which focuses solely on the Ingolstadt brand, has put together a rendering of what the coming TT could look like.

The influences are a sharp interpretation of the new language that design head Wolfgang Egger recently discussed and that we've seen with the Crosslane Coupe, e-tron concept shown in Detroit almost three years ago and, of course, the stillborn quattro concept. Put that all together, adjust the lines to fit the MQB platform that the TT will ride on, and what you have in Forutitude's eyes is the rendering above. Naturally there's no way of knowing how close it is to the final product, but we're happy to gaze at it until we know more.

Beyond that there is much talk of light weight, Dürheimer apparently saying he'd not only like to see a more aggressive TT, but a supremely aggressive, 1,000-kilogram TT on top of that. Fourtitude likens such a model to the relationship of the Porsche 911 GT3 to the regular 911. Dürheimer spoke to Auto Express about the possibilities of such a car, all the way to rendering the MQB platform in carbon fiber, aluminum and steel, with a powerful five-cylinder engine for motivation, and Fourtitude has an in-depth look at a featherweight coupe called the TT evo plus. If it ever sees this mortal coil, it could be the closest we get to the quatto concept and the R4, all in one. Head over to Fourtitude to see more of their ideas on the Audi TT in rendered form.
Rendered Speculation: Next-gen Audi TT looking sharp originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 03 Dec 2012 07:58:00 EST. Inside Line hass pieced together the information it has managed to gathered so far and produced a rendering that, if not for the Evos concept, would be considered not just next-generation, but next millennium.

What it does, though, is tweak the Evos with the recognizable Mustang forms that IL s been told will remain, like the three-bar taillamps and the three-quarter light, though, again, the whole thing looks decidedly futuristic. Still, don't get too attached to this rendering - there'll no doubt be plenty more before we're through.
Next Ford Mustang rendered... again originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 08 May 2012 16:31:00 EST.
It was hinted not long ago that Lamborghini would be bringing a couple of brand new baubles to the Geneva Motor Show. Speculation was that one would certainly be the Aventador Roadster, but the other was more difficult to predict - the standard cries being a production version of the Sesto Elemento, a new sedan or a crossover. Well, we still can't be sure what else is coming to Geneva, but if the magazine scan at the Teamspeed forum can be believed - it comes from Italian mag Quattroroute - a new crossover will be heading our way shortly after the Switzerland expo.

According to the article, Lamborghini will be getting an SUV based on the Audi Q7 platform (just like sister-brand Bentley is expected to do), and it will be revealed at the Beijing Auto Show in April. The ostensible codename is LB 736, and while the official engine spec hasn't been nailed down just yet, we hear it'll be a V10 or electrically assisted V8 with somewhere around 700 horsepower.

The body is reportedly standard Lamborghini-issue aluminum and carbon fiber, with aims of a curb weight under 2,000 kilograms (4,400 pounds), and the completed project will go on sale in 2015. There's a suggestion that it might also come to Geneva instead of Beijing, but since the image is a Photoshop - and, frankly, most of this is speculation - don't be suprised if what we see now is not exactly what we ultimately get... whenever it debuts.
Lamborghini's next model to be "LB 736" SUV instead of Estoque? originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 16:29:00 EST.
The rumormill is churning full blast at the thought of a resurrected Toyota Supra, and while we don't have any more reliable information on whether or not Toyota will reintroduce the high-horsepower sports car, we have been treated to a rendering of what the vehicle might look like.

Artist Andreas Fougner took the time to stretch his skills over the notion of a Supra successor, and the result is the machine you see above. Fougner says that he drew his inspiration from both current and vintage Toyota models, as well as other vehicles that have made the jump from past to present while skipping a generation or two.

What's under the hood? Fougner hasn't bothered with specifics, though he did say that the modern Supra would need to be light and nimble, despite the vehicle's portly past, and that it should come with a high-revving, naturally aspirated beating heart. Forced induction would also be acceptable.

As for us, we wouldn't mind seeing a torque-happy straight six under that long hood, so long as it puts power to the rear wheels via an honest-to-God manual gearbox.
Should Toyota's rumored Supra revival look like this? originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 18:30:00 EST.
At long last, we've seen the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. As any fan of the golden bull should know, when it comes to guessing the next variant of Lamborghini's biggest and baddest coupe all one need do is imagine the car with about two feet of roof gone missing. Or you don't even need to suppose, since RenderedSpeculation.com has done it for you.

The Aventador's close outward relation to previous members of Lamborghini's V12 family means the roadster's appearance - at least in rendered form - is exactly what you'd expect. So instead of considering this a test of the imagination, consider it planning: tax refunds will be coming soon, and you might as well figure out now whether the coupe or the inevitable roadster deserves your money...
If this drawing proves accurate, it looks like the new midsize models will combine a lot of what we see in the 2012 Focus at the front end with a greenhouse and rear stance that actually looks more like the current Taurus.

The Fusion was Ford's first model to adopt the automaker's now ubiquitous three-bar grille design, but this rendering finally dispenses with that look in favor of something a little more Kinetic. We don't know if the production model will go this way or perhaps use the modified perforated version adopted by the latest Taurus and Explorer.

The new Mondeo and Fusion will probably debut sometime later in 2011 and come to market early in 2012 as a 2013 model.

The all-new Saab 9-5 is one of the best looking models to come out of Trollhattan in recent memory, but for now it's only available as a four-door sedan, with a wagon version coming in the very near future. While it's been nearly a decade since Saab discontinued its last coupe based on the 9-3 (okay, so it was a liftback) the 9-5 and its predecessor, the 9000, have never been offered in two-door flavor. However, that hasn't stopped a member of Saabs United, Z!, from breaking out Photoshop and rendering up a 9-5 coupe.

The 'shopped image features some of trademark Saab elements, particularly the downward sloping roofline and bulbous back end. While the proportions and execution may be a bit off (the short doors in particular), it's a reasonable rendering of what Saab could do if they wanted to enter the niche. Handsome as it is, don't expect to see such a model in your local Saab showroom - this is purely a flight of fantasy.
Unlike the less-than-stellar X-Type which was based on the second-generation Ford Mondeo, the new car should actually be a real Jaguar.

Jaguar is reportedly working on a new modular aluminum platform that would be shared between the new smaller car, the mid-sized XF and the next-generation XK. In renderings posted by AutoExpress at least, the baby Jag bears a strong resemblance to the XF but with curvier rear haunches and XJ-style taillamps. Of course, what the real thing will ultimately look like is anyone's guess.

Power will likely come from downsized and boosted four-cylinder gas and diesel engines, with the current 3.0-liter diesel V6 as a range-topper. Also look for a hybrid to enter the mix. All of this will help Jaguar meet the new EU CO2 emissions limits once the new smaller Jaguar debuts, which could happen as soon as soon as 2012.
The end of production of the Chrysler PT Cruiser prompted a reader at the Cheers and Gears forum to try his hand at rendering what could have been a next-generation edition of the retro hatchback. It's often been said that following up a retro design is particularly difficult, though admittedly, BMW has managed to do so with the Mini.

The artist, Andrew Currie, has taken his cue from Mini by retaining the original PT's basic shape, with the biggest changes applied to the nose. A larger grille with four round, exposed headlamps still retains the flavor of the outgoing model. If the design were applied to a more modern platform with an up-to-date powertrain and better handling, it's certainly possible it could have been successful. The problem is that such designs tend to be fashion statements, and you know what they say about "One day you're in ..." In part, Mini's success has come by expanding the concept to different body styles including the Clubman, Countryman and the upcoming coupe and roadster. It's not clear that a single PT variant could do the job.

What do you think, could a new PT Cruiser with modern running gear still succeed? Let us know in our poll after the jump.
AMG is now reportedly developing a mid-engined SLM to take on the likes of the Audi R8 and a possible BMW supercar.

While reusing components from the SLS would have been preferable from a purely financial perspective, it could cannibalize the SL, while something even more upmarket from the SLS might prove too hard to sell in the current economic environment.

The SLM is expected to focus on light weight and a smaller boosted engine, possibly paired with electric motors. The front wheels could be driven by the same motors used in the battery-powered SLS E-Cell while the engine would drive the rears. If this hybrid configuration is utilized, the SLM would also theoretically be a direct competitor to a production version of the Porsche 918 Spyder.

With the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon now on sale and the Acura TSX wagon coming this fall, Autoblog reader Andrew decided to try his hand at producing a five-door version of the larger TL sedan.

By merging the roofline of the seven-seat MDX crossover with the body of the midsize sedan, Andrew has created what to our eyes is a fairly handsome sedan... well, at least those of us in the minority that actually like the look of the standard TL. The D-pillar does look a bit heavy in this application, so perhaps a more forward sloping rear window in the manner of some of Audi's Avant wagons would give the car a sleeker look. Share your thoughts in the comments below.

The current Volkswagen Beetle will be going out of production later this year, but VW has promised an all-new replacement by 2012. So far VW hasn't released any teasers or sketches that indicate what the New New Beetle might look like, but we have to assume anything that retains that name will have to also have a rounded, bug-like shape. But the problem with any retro design is where do you go next?

Artist David Cardoso has created some renderings of a car that very clearly says Beetle, with its prominent wheel arches and round headlamps and greenhouse. At the same time Cardoso moves those elements forward by stretching the greenhouse and integrating those arches while ringing the headlamps with the de rigueur LED running lights. With VW's recent jump into the electric vehicle arena, a battery powertrain would be an excellent way to set a new Beetle apart from the crowd, much as the original air-cooled boxer did. If the Beetle were to be a dedicated EV, the compact electric drive system could facilitate some improved interior packaging as well.
Porsche's last front-engine GT went out of production in 1995, and it certainly would certainly make sense to reuse the new front-engine car platform for a coupe. If the car, which could be called the Panamera GT, does come to fruition, it will likely go on a shorter wheelbase and perhaps be lighter than the four door.

Hopefully, if the coupe is built Porsche's designers will decide that it's no longer necessary to accommodate six-foot-three-inch former CEO Wendelin Weideking in the back seat. That would allow for a far more graceful roof-line than the humpbacked Panamera. Now would be the time to start crossing all those fingers and toes.

With an all-new Audi A8 arriving in the coming months, a higher performance S8 can't be far behind. This particular image originated from a reader on the World Car Fans forum, but it certainly looks plausible. The wheels are straight off the R8 V10 and the front fascia is an evolution of the look we've seen on S and RS models from Audi for the past several years.

Power will no doubt be plentiful, although we don't yet know which engine will power the new model. The previous generation used a 450-horsepower 5.2-liter V10, but the new A8 has already been spec'ed out with a 500 hp 6.3-liter W12.

The S8 will surely have at least that much power, although Audi has been on an engine downsizing kick lately. The latest S4 and S5 cabrio went from a V8 to a supercharged V6. It wouldn't be surprising to see the engineers at quattro GmbH cook up a new boosted V8 with over 500 hp for this and other future high performance Audis.

We expect to see the real S8 arrive by the time of the Paris Motor Show in September, but this reader rendering will have to do for now.

A couple of days ago when we saw a speculative rendering of a station wagon version of the new Kia Optima, we postulated that its cousin the Hyundai Sonata would make a great Shooting Brake. Well, we've now seen two renderings of a long-roof Sonata from two different artists and we are sold on the concept.

The image to the right was generated by the same Theophilus Chin who created the Optima wagon. Don't get us wrong, we generally love the Mercedes-Benz "Shooting Break" concept we saw in Beijing. However, unlike the designers at Mercedes-Benz, Theo understands the history of the Shooting Brake and rendered a proper two-door plus hatch, and it works beautifully with the Sonata's fluidic sculpture design. Check out Theo's other work at his site.

We'd also like to thank Jon Riska who, while acknowledging his less advanced photoshopping skills, still produced the very handsome four-door Sonata wagon above. If you'd like to try your own hand, send your images along to tips at autoblog dawt com and we may add them to the reader gallery.

Note to Hyundai America CEO John Krafcik: We know you check out Autoblog. Come on, you know you want to build one of these!
Unfortunately, aside from the Subarus and VW Jettas there are few affordable examples available in the U.S. market.

With any luck the good folks at Kia will see this rendering based on the recently revealed Optima and say "Let's do it!" The new Optima sedan is a handsome piece of work, but adding this CTS-inspired extended roof-line and D-pillar really gives it the finishing touch.

Now what we'd like to see is something akin to the Mercedes-Benz Shooting Break concept based on the Sonata. Come on photoshoppers, get to work. Hats off to Andrus for the tip!
Vento is not a new name for VW - the Mk III Jetta sedan used that badge in the European market throughout the mid-90s.

Volkswagen has reportedly increased the wheelbase of the three-box Polo by two inches to provide rear seat passengers a bit more space. The lengthened roof should also aid head room out back, although eliminating the hatch will surely cut down on cargo volume and accessibility.

The Indian Vento is powered by either a 1.6-liter inline-four or a 1.6-liter common rail turbodiesel. If and when this car makes it to America it will probably use the 105 horsepower turbocharged and direct injected 1.2 TSI four-pot available in Europe.

Although Volkswagen still hasn't officially committed to selling the Polo in the U.S., VW of America officials have said that they would probably wait until a four door sedan is available with a probable launch in 2011. The Vento is expected to launch in India this summer.
The site names a handful of unnamed sources that say Toyota's youth-bent brand is looking for an easy way to inject some life into its lineup - something that could be easily accomplished by cutting the roof off of the newly unveiled tC coupe. The car just received its first significant redesign in six years, and as such, IL seems to think the time is ripe to add a convertible model to the mix.

The site makes a compelling case for the move, including the fact that there are very few affordable drop heads on the market right now. Throw in the fact that Toyota just sent its one and only convertible, the Solara, packing for good, and it seems to make sense.

We have to wonder exactly how many freshly-minted college grads would snap up a convertible tC, though. After all, Scion is easily as popular with the AARP crowd as it is with the younger set, thanks largely to the brand's vehicles that are bigger on function than they are on style. We're looking at you, xB. Would a convertible help to drop the brand's demographic by a few generations? Maybe so, but considering we haven't heard word one from Toyota on this front, we'll have to leave this one in the rumormill pile a little longer.
How about a seven-figure roadster with 700 horsepower? Well, that may be a matter of personal opinion, but Aston Martin never shies away from the subject, churning out open-top versions of most of its range.

Along with the Rapide, Cygnet and the V12 Vantage (the eight-cylinder version available as a roadster), the One-77 is one of the only vehicles in Aston Martin's range that isn't available as a convertible. Not yet, at least. But that's the beauty of the digital age: anything you can imagine in your mind can be imagined on the internet. In this case, we have to thank one Theophilus Chin, the self-styled "automotive manipulator" who has rendered what an open-top One-77 Volante might look like. And to our eyes, it looks enticing. Agree or disagree? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
The BLK, if it does become reality, is expected to be based on the B-Class compact. This small CUV/SUV segment is a burgeoning one with the recent introductions of the BMW X1 and Mini Countryman along with the upcoming Land Rover LRX.

Autobild is reporting that the BLK would be about 4.4 meters long, splitting the difference between the Countryman and X1. The rendering follows the recent Mercedes styling direction with with a more upright version of the grille similar to the SLS AMG and and the recent F800 concept. We wouldn't expect to see the BLK arrive until later in 2011 or perhaps 2012, following the new B-Class, although a concept will probably show up sooner.
