New CRX won't show until 2011, but will be a hybrid

Back in February we relayed some information to you about a possible new Honda CRX. Our friends over at Winding Road told us that Honda was finally admitting to developing a new CRX based on the Fit platform. The success of small, affordable, fun cars like the MINI proved the market was viable and Honda eventually gave the car the green light. Well, now comes some additional info stating that besides the green light, Honda is giving the new CRX a green powerplant. Some might recall the poor-selling, but much-loved-by-a-few Honda Insight, as well as its resemblance to the wickedly fun but economical CRX. Marrying both loved vehicles into one model makes some sense, too.

WR is reporting that its inside info says the car will definitely be a hybrid, and should emulate the styling of the original CRX rather than its successor, the Del Sol. Good news so far. The catch is that rather than seeing the car in 2009, as originally thought, it is going to debut around 2011 instead. Geneva's Small Hybrid Sports Concept and Los Angeles' Remix were seen as possible CRX design ideas, but it seems that an homage to the original is more likely. We'll probably see a concept version in Tokyo in October.

Honda may outfit Ridgeline and others with V6 diesel

In an interview with Automotive News, Honda's CEO, Takeo Fukui said that the automaker's newly developed diesel technology will find its way into their light truck offerings of the future.

The vehicles identified by Fukui as being the likely recipients of a V6 diesel are the Ridgeline pickup, Pilot SUV and Odyssey minivan, with Acura's MDX also being a candidate for oil-burning power.

The V6 engine is currently under development and will likely debut sometime after Honda introduces their 2.2-liter diesel in 2009.

Another interesting tidbit from Fukui's interview with AN was his comment about the possibility of future Honda vehicles receiving turbocharged mills. He indicated that the introduction of the turbo'd Acura RDX did not mean that only the high-end automaker would benefit from the glories of forced induction. We'd like to see a factory-blown version of the Honda Remix come out by the end of the decade, but we're not going to start saving up yet.

LA Auto Show: Honda Re-Re-REMIX Concept

Honda's press conference at the 2006 LA Auto Show saw the debut of the REMIX Concept, a purely hypothetical three-door Honda hatch that thinks it's a fighter plane (check out the wraparound cockpit-like windshield and roof-scoop). This little silver bullet reminded us a bit of the Volvo C30 in shape, and it's obvious from Honda's press release that the car's purpose is one and the same: fun to drive and practical to boot. The concept is said to be powered by a four-cylinder motor and swaps cogs with a six-speed transmission. A sport suspension and big brakes are also part of this theorethical equation. Though many see the REMIX and instantly think of a CRX successor, it doesn't sound like that's what Honda's thinking. Then again, a concept's chances for production are directly related to the reaction it invokes from a crowd, so if the REMIX is received well, you never know.

More live shots, press shots and Honda's full press release can be found after the jump.

VIDEO: Lambo LP640 rocks!

We all knew that Lamborghini's Murcielago LP640 goes up to eleven, but without experiencing this raging bull first-hand, it's hard to comprehend just how hard she rocks. (And yes, we all know a sportscar of such passion and beauty is thoroughly feminine.)

This video, reportedly a cinematographical review for German car-mag Auto Motor und Sport, goes a long way towards conveying the absolute freakin' rockingness of the LP640, the epitome of 43 years of Lamborghini history. Watch and see for yourself.
