The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has fined Volvo $1.5 million for delaying safety recalls, according to The New York Times. The Swedish automaker settled with NHTSA after the government agency alleged delays with a total of seven recalls for a range of different models. Those actions included incorrect tire pressure labels, faulty air bags and stalling vehicles. Congress is gearing up for a comprehensive overhaul of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, implementing some significant safety measures for automobiles along the way. The campaign, encouraged by safety advocates for over a year now, has gained significant ground as the Senate Commerce Committee endorsed a series of measures which it will seek to incorporate into a highway reauthorization bill due for approval early in the new year.
