Do you need to be the person with the most unique vehicle on your block, a car or truck people constantly stop and ask questions about? Well, the Reboot Buggy from designer Joey Ruiter might be the ultimate answer to your iconoclastic desire, and it's now for auction on eBay Motors.
This past June I spent an excellent day hanging out with Joey Ruiter, driving and discussing his Reboot Buggy project. Before heading home, I let him know that he was more than welcome to keep me abreast of whichever new automotive project he'd get into. You can never have too many car designers and one-off fabricators in your Rolodex, right?
"I've got a secret car club," designer Joey Ruiter tells me. The club in question is defined, in both spirit and literal membership, by the gold and black t-shirt he's wearing that bares the shorthand exclamation, "MIDZWL" across the chest. The letters are shorthand for the phrase "Might as well..." and represent the attitude of the kind of person it takes to build the vehicle I'm here to see and drive: the Reboot Buggy.
It's easy to forget that the first cars were replacements for the horse and buggy, in today's world of ever more luxurious and complex, wheeled conveyances. Designer Joey Ruiter had something like that in mind when he started work on his Reboot Buggy, a completely stripped down take on what's at the heart of the word "car."
