Rahal Letterman Racing
During the keynote session of the Alternative Fuel and Vehicle Institute conference last May, Bobby Rahal, head of Rahal Letterman Racing, gave a talk that described his role (click and scroll down a bit) in helping the Indy Racing League move to using 100 percent ethanol fuel. In short, Rahal was fully behind the move to the biofuel. Turns out, ethanol isn't fully behind Rahal.
Earlier this year Rahal Letterman Racing announced its partnership with BMW to bring M3s back to ALMS GT2 in 2009. The Rahal Letterman deal is a new venture for BMW, putting its ALMS race operations in the hands of an unfamiliar crew. While Rahal Letterman is a proven open wheel race team, they are not one of the existing ALMS teams with prior BMW sports car racing experience. It is an interesting match-up that will be exciting to watch next year.
US Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman will promote Ethanol during an appearance at Ethanol Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway tomorrow, Energy Efficient Motorsport. Rahal Letterman Racing, which runs a car supported by Team Ethanol, invited Bodman, who will do a press conference about ethanol in racing and the more general future of alt-fuels in America. He will also meet with executives of the EPIC (Ethanol Promotion and Information Council).
