We're big fans of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe here at Autoblog. We're also fans of vehicles that find ways to make our driving experience more exciting in any way possible. And while it would be nice to see Hyundai plop its 5.0-liter V8 engine under the hood of the Genesis coupe, there is little chance of that ever happening. (Probably for good reason, too.) Still, that doesn't mean more power can't be had, and spy photographers have captured a possible solution lurking under the hood of a Genesis prototype.

It looks like Hyundai is simply going to stick with its 3.8-liter V6 as the range-topping engine, albeit, with a bit of supercharged force added on. What you are looking at could very well be a Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec that's indeed fitting of its extra nomenclature. The supercharger should help push the standard 3.8-liter output of 306 horsepower (333 hp in the 2012 Genesis sedan) up closer to a figure that will have Mustang GT drivers checking their mirrors.
Supercharged Hyundai Genesis Coupe in the works originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 12:58:00 EST.
We recently stumbled upon some grainy photos of what appeared to be a completely uncovered 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, showing off its new Veloster-inspired nose. Now, our intrepid spy photographers have caught a pair of Genesis Coupes out testing in the Death Valley heat, showing off the brand new nose.

These prototypes appear to either be the top-trim Track model or the hardcore R-Spec, featuring large, 19-inch wheels and a set of Brembo brakes. We've also managed to get our first glimpse at the coupe's revised interior, though from the looks of things, not a whole lot has changed (we'll wait until we see a console shot before drawing conclusions, though).

As for what's under the hood, a safe bet is that the coupe will get the revised, direct-injected 3.8-liter V6 from the Genesis Sedan, producing 333 horsepower. Of course, we're all crossing our fingers that Hyundai has found a way to shoehorn its new 429-hp 5.0-liter V8 under the two-door's sleek hood.

The 2013 Genesis Coupe is expected to debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January. Stay tuned for more details.
2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe shows its new face, interior originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 30 Aug 2011 11:28:00 EST.
The 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan is hitting dealer lots as you read this, and pricing has officially been set at $34,200, not including $850 for destination and delivery. The facelifted Genesis four-door was unveiled at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, and though it received a minor facelift and some other small interior changes, the big news for the 2012 model year is what's under the hood.

That $34,200 price point corresponds to the base Genesis 3.8 sedan, which now uses a direct-injected 3.8-liter V6, rated at 333 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque - gains of 43 and 27, respectively, versus the 2011 model. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is also on tap, meaning the Genesis 3.8 will achieve up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway.

Moving up in the range, the Genesis 4.6 - $44,500 - also gets an eight-speed automatic transmission, though its V8 engine remains largely unchanged. Power ratings carry over from 2011 - 385 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque.

The 4.6 used to be the range-topping Genesis, but for 2012, Hyundai has introduced the new 5.0 R-Spec model, which, as its name suggests, is fitted with the automaker's brand new 5.0-liter direct-injected V8. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Tau 5.0 is good for 429 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, while still returning 16/25 mpg city/highway. The R-Spec model also features unique 19-inch wheels, sportier suspension tuning and more aggressive appearance updates. The top-shelf Genesis retails for $46,500.

The current Hyundai Genesis 4.6 sedan, with its 385 horsepower V8, is hardly a slouch. In fact, according to most road tests, the luxury four-door reportedly hits 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds. In an effort to raise the vehicle's performance bar and snuff out those who have complained about the four-door's lack of "sport," Hyundai has pulled the covers of its new 2012 Genesis R-Spec sedan.

Under the hood is a new 5.0-liter V8. The engine - the most powerful Hyundai has ever fitted to a street vehicle - is rated at 429 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a standard eight-speed automatic (with manual shift mode), the new powertrain should shave more than a few tenths off its sprint... and go some way toward adding the 'sport' prefix in front of 'sedan.'

Other performance goodies backing up the new engine include unique R-Spec transmission tuning, suspension upgrades, larger brakes and recalibrated sport steering. Wheels have been bumped up to 19-inch alloys wearing 235/45R19 tires (sticky Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Summer Tires are optional). Cosmetically, the sport sedan is differentiated by dark chrome headlight inserts, and new badging inside and out. The Genesis R-Spec sedan will be offered in Black Noir, Titanium Gray, and Platinum Metallic exterior paint, with black leather inside as standard-fit.
With the Genesis Coupe 3.8 finally getting its own R-Spec model, it was just a matter of time before Hyundai started partnering with tuners to boost the performance of its V6-powered aftermarket-friendly coupe.

ARK Performance, one of Korea's leading tuners, will be upgrading nearly every component of its Track Time Attack Genesis Coupe for this year's SEMA show, boosting the output of the 3.8-liter V6 from 306 horsepower to 450+ ponies through the help of new internals, an APG supercharger and a host of breathing mods.

Brembo brakes with Endless pads and DBA drilled and slotted rotors hide behind lightweight Volk TE37 SLs, with ARK's full suspension system (coilovers, sway bars and front strut bar) working together with a range of Cusco parts.

In addition to the custom front and rear bumpers, hood, side skirts, rear diffuser and fenders, ARK will be equipping the inside with Bride seats, a six-point cage and Sparco steering wheel, along with the defacto sound system and Apple iPad integration.

For the full list of mods and a little bit of background on ARK, hit the jump for the release, and check out the preliminary sketches in the gallery below.
Today's evidence: the just-announced FPV Cobra, a limited-edition Boss 302-powered tire incinerator that comes in both sedan and ute form. (Oh, the Boss 302 moniker stands for 302 kilowatts, not cubic inches, btw.) All Cobras are white with blue stripes, and the 5.4L Boss 302 V8 dishes out 404 horses and 398 lb-ft of torque. All that juice is directed aft via a standard 6-speed manual or a ZF 6-speed auto that's available at no additional cost.

Other baubles include standard leather, spiffy 19" wheels, Brembos (which can be further upgraded as well), all the expected badging, and in the case of the sedan, FPV's track-ready R-Spec suspension. Total Cobra production is limited to 500 vehicles, with 4-doors outnumbering utes 400 to 100. Pricing will start at $65,110 AUD for the sedan and $61,200 AUD for the ute. In other news, US customers have the new Focus to look forward to, which looks almost as cool as this Aussie Cobra, assuming you're wearing a blindfold.

Follow the jump for the official press release. And as if to remind us of that, FPV has come forth with its latest creation, the F6 R-Spec Typhoon. R-Spec refers to the track-tuned suspension the car sports under that bodywork. First implemented on the smashing FPV Falcon GT 40th Anniversary, the R-Spec chassis enhancements are intended to make the cars comfortable, livable daily drivers with excellent handling that are always ready for track days. The F6 Typhoon, with its 370-horsepower/406 lb-ft 4.0-liter turbo I6, was fun on four wheels already. With the improved handling the R-Spec suspension offers, fun probably turns to bliss. One more reason to go take that Australian vacation, folks...

[Source: FPV]

Gallery: FPV F6 R-Spec Typhoon

Continue reading Aussie Love: FPV unleashes F6 R-Spec Typhoon

Aussie Love: FPV unleashes F6 R-Spec Typhoon originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 17 Aug 2007 09:33:00 EST. The FPV Falcon GT 40th Anniversary is powered by Ford's Boss 290 5.4L V8. The 290 in its name refers to its power output in kilowatts. Put in our terms, that's 390 horsepower, and it's joined by 383 pounds of twist. That power goes to the rear wheels, natch. Breathing is aided by an FPV high-flow exhaust and six forward gears (manual or automatic) round things out on the powertrian side.

It should be noted the same drivetrain is found in the "regular" FPV Falcon GT. What sets the anniversary edition apart from its bretheren is the R-Spec suspension that underpins the car. Developed by Delphi at the request of Prodrive (co-owner of FPV along with Ford), it's designed to improve on-track performance without overly compromising everyday ride quality and tire wear.

The cars are given a coat of black paint with a gold Shelby-style stripe package (a la the Hertz Mustangs), GT 40th Anniversary decals aft of the front wheels, "BOSS 290" on the hood's power bulge, R-Spec badging on the rear, and 19" alloys (with red Brembos peeking through the spokes) trimmed in black. Note also the slick detail touches such as the FPV logo that's part of the lower grillework up front. The thing looks positively menacing and it has the goods to back it up. Man, they sure know how to do it right in Australia. Meanwhile, we get a new <strike>Five-Hundred</strike> Taurus.
